[kaidan] [Bug 494782] New: Strings do not have helpful context
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494782 Bug ID: 494782 Summary: Strings do not have helpful context Classification: Applications Product: kaidan Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: me...@olomono.de Reporter: emir_s...@icloud.com Target Milestone: --- Greetings, translator here. Currently Kaidan strings do not seem to have the recommended User Interface Markers[1] to indicate the location of a specific user-interface string. Adding these markers add a lot to the quality of the translation, since it allows the translators to distinguish and tailor the capitalisation patterns and other possible language-specific rules. Currently it looks like there is some sort of automatic context[3] added, but it does not help at all. As a bonus point, it might be a good idea to review the updated HIG[2] for writing texts, and using the specific punctuation and mark patterns for a better presentation and accessibility of the user interface strings. The Turkish translation for “Import” is “İçe Aktar”. - Search for “İçe Aktar” in both quick search and search in files Expected: - “İçe Aktar” should be found Actual: - “İçe Aktar” is not found, unless match case is used Context: This is a very common edge case in most software, which might require using appropriate local-aware methods within Qt (search for “Turkish i problem”). Basically, İ is the capital version of i, and I is the capital version of ı in Turkish. This also affects other Turkic languages, since most of them also has this letter in their Latin alphabets (even the translation levels are currently low within KDE). While searching, ideally, both searching for i should return the results for both capital letters. [plasmashell] [Bug 481686] Continue to show menus for the previously-focused window when focus is lost to the panel or one of its widgets
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481686 --- Comment #3 from Emir SARI --- (In reply to Doug from comment #2) > Could the Global Menu be populated with a "System" menu that links to > various system functions like Settings or disk management, or Dolphin's menu > (a la the way MacOS's uses Finder) whenever Plasma Desktop has focus? This is a good solution, but I think the active window would still lose focus whenever other widgets are clicked. I think the approach here should be something similar to a dedicated Global Menu mode, where it is treated as a root Plasma object which has greater privileges rather than just being a widget. The user can switch to the previous "Taskbar Mode", where they can customise their panels as needed, but the Global Menu mode would change the paradigm totally (just like macOS does). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 481628] Global menu should still have standard menus available when there is no application open
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481628 --- Comment #2 from Emir SARI --- Thanks for the reply! The active window will always get the menu content, no questions asked there. But, when there are no applications open, and for instance when the window chooser is active "Plasma Desktop" is displayed (that's my cue that there are no active application windows), there should be a standard set of items. Now, I always use the folder mode, so, when in folder mode, there should be menus for instance, File - for file operations Edit - for file operations View - for display options of the icons Go - easy navigation to places and mounted disks, last used items, and network connection options Window - this is your Plasma navigation menu, windows, virtual desktops, activities… Help - standart help access For the rumoured widget mode (I never use it), these could be configured as you say, to display whatever is relevant to that mode. The main logic behind this change it, theoretically, when we use the global menu for system navigation and cancel the standard bottom Plasma panel, everything should also be available also in this global menu paradigm without having to resort to specific widgets. The only sort of required other widget should be the application launcher menu. I recognise that this paradigm is very macOS'y, but when we already have the global menu, we could as well make it worthwhile to have it. It would also really help folks like me that use macOS regularly to feel more at home with KDE. It is also a 40 year old paradigm, which is tried extensively and in use today. This way also we could make Dolphin integrate more deeply into Plasma. To be fair, having to launch Dolphin in order to manipulate files on the Desktop extensively is not ideal at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[skrooge] [Bug 481231] New: Add the version number to the welcome title itself
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481231 Bug ID: 481231 Summary: Add the version number to the welcome title itself Classification: Applications Product: skrooge Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: steph...@mankowski.fr Reporter: emir_s...@icloud.com Target Milestone: --- In the Welcome to %1 text, the version number is not included. When it is localised in a language with a different word order, it becomes alienated at the very end, like "%1 to welcome" + about.version(). Having it like ("Welcome to %1 %2", name, version) would make it much better. Now I checked the code out, wanting to fix it myself, but did not understand a thing :D. [skrooge] [Bug 481226] Improve compliance with messages HIG
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481226 --- Comment #3 from Emir SARI --- Thank you for the swift fix! Another thing that came to mind is the hyphen, en and em dash use. I've fixed the ones I found necessary in this[1] SVN commit for Turkish, might be helpful! [skrooge] [Bug 481226] Improve compliance with messages HIG
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481226 --- Comment #1 from Emir SARI --- Another thing, some informative messages and error messages end with a period, and sometimes they do not. This too should be improved, because the addressing style might change for some languages, also this is interconnected with it. Addressing style is also important, for the status bar messages, they should be porcelain sentences, rather than robotic verbs, like "Statement import" etc. (just making it up). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[skrooge] [Bug 481226] New: Improve compliance with messages HIG
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481226 Bug ID: 481226 Summary: Improve compliance with messages HIG Classification: Applications Product: skrooge Version: Trunk from git Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: steph...@mankowski.fr Reporter: emir_s...@icloud.com Target Milestone: --- Greetings, translator here. Recently I've finished overhauling the long-neglected translations of Skrooge for my language (tr), however the process was mostly time-consuming. I've noticed that, although most messages include some sort of context text, it was not compliant with the current HIG, and some string context diversification was insufficient. Some issues that I've encountered: - Instead of the ellipsis character (…), three separate dots are used (...) - Text field placeholders do not use the … character, for instance "Search…" - Capitalisation is mostly inconsistent, see here[1] for the basic guidelines. This is real helpful when maintaining a professional-looking interface - Translation contexts should conform to the table listed here[2]. It really helps the translators to understand where the string is located. It is very useful to use these, since gettext merges the same strings into a single message, it cannot conform to different capitalisation styles that might be needed in different places. - It would be nice to use standardised characters like right arrow instead of ->, smart quotes instead of plain ' '. Please feel free to ask for more details if needed, I would be happy to assist. [Elisa] [Bug 480177] New: Add metadata dropdown is too annoying
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480177 Bug ID: 480177 Summary: Add metadata dropdown is too annoying Classification: Applications Product: Elisa Version: unspecified Platform: Neon OS: All Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: matthieu_gall...@yahoo.fr Reporter: emir_s...@icloud.com Target Milestone: --- Let's say, I have a file without metadata. I have all the information at hand. I want to fill it out. When I go into the edit mode, I need to click the dropdown and select what I want to add ONE BY ONE. This is borderline hostile behaviour. Why not have all the metadata fields in the open like EVERY OTHER music player out there? So that I could just TAB my way in? Another anti-UX behaviour is that, when I add a new field from the drop-down, it is downright impossible to understand that a field is added to the very bottom. Also the behaviour is buggy in itself, after clicking the drop-down, and selecting a field, a poorly padded and poorly positioned error overlay, that says the data is invalid and it's empty, messes with the layout even more. Even if I add all the fields one by one, I need to scroll to see all the fields, is very annoying. There should be a simple way to position everything nicely like those old boring programs with gazillions of text fields next to each other. You know, those you enter your personal details and info about your previous 10 generation of family. Now, that is good layout (read it in Jerry Seinfeld voice).
