[kactivitymanagerd] [Bug 371150] Black screen is when more than one type of activity is applied
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371150 --- Comment #11 from Ivan Čukić--- Damn, it still does not write anything useful - I have a few more steps for you :) 1. can you install plasma and plasma-related packages with debugging symbols, and start kdebugdialog5 and check every box that mentions plasma (there is a search bar on top)? 2. What happens if you put the activity pager on the panel and restart plasma? 3. When you start plasma (from terminal) in an activity that is not blank, and then press enter a few times in the terminal, just to move the cursor, what is written out when you try to switch to a 'blank' activity? p.s. Backup your plasma settings before doing this - ~/.config/plasma* :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371204 --- Comment #3 from Ivan Čukić--- I see now that you submitted the bug that you can not move windows to other activities as well. I'm thinking this might be connected, and that it is most likely a distribution issue. I have a few things it would be cool if you can test. [plasmashell] [Bug 362774] KDE Activities do not have a well-defined ordering
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362774 --- Comment #7 from Ivan Čukić--- > But adding an integer for the order to whatever object represents the activity Not as simple as that. That integer needs to be synchronized across all clients, to be introduced in a backwards-compatible manner to the syncing protocol, and be done so that all possible cases of service supports or doesn't support reordering, client supports or doesn't support reordering work (since the service and the client library are released separately). Then, you need to implement a pretty drag and drop UI for reordering. Then, you need to deal with the model updates - where does a new activity go? (and then deal with all the bug reports related to where you chose for it to appear - like we have for applications in the menu) > elsewhere) starting from 3 or certainly 4 activities, not dozens Reordering is (IMO) useful when you want to find something more quickly. If you have 3 or 4 activities, you can not have problems to find a specific one. p.s. Nothing here is about the pager specifically. It would be 'easy' to make the reordering for one thing, if the order does not need to get propagated to all the other places. And the pager is in the kdeplasma-addons so it can do whatever it wants to - they are less constrained to fit well into the rest of the Plasma workspace, than components that actually ship with Plasma. If this weren't the case, activity pager would not exist in the first place. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362774 Ivan Čukićchanged: What|Removed |Added Ever confirmed|0 |1 Status|UNCONFIRMED |ASSIGNED --- Comment #4 from Ivan Čukić --- @Steve Activities in the switcher are ordered by the most recently used - and that will not change (at least when the default switcher is concerned). There were some ideas of allowing the users to group activities, and to create sub-activities - to have the related ones grouped, but it was decided it would be an overkill. Activities are meant for macro-management of user's work, and micro-managing them seems like a 1% use-case. > Most modern software allows the user to re-position or re-order key > user-interface > elements according to their preference. For example, nearly every e-mail app > allows > users to customise the order in which folders belonging Yes, people tend to have a few dozen mail folders. And sub-folders in them. And this requires being able to reorder them to keep the organization sane. If you have a few dozen running activities, you are doing something unorthodox (not to say wrong). The 'unorthodox' use-cases do not warrant creating a complex mechanism (and the overhead it would produce) of syncing the order in all the different places. If you want to have grouped activities - or related as you have put it - you can prefix their names with the name of the thing that makes them related. Something like: "KDE > Localization" "KDE > Development" It will have the benefit that you get all kde-related activities in the switcher just by typing 'kde', and in the alphabetical-ordered lists, they will appear together. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

The problematic line is emulatedcommandbar.cpp:310 where qApp->notify is called. It recurses into ... which calls handleKeyPress member function again, ... and so on. When the call to notify is removed, and function returns false in the if body, this works as it should. (just followed the "Ideally, instead of doing this, we would..." part of the comment written above the if) Another dirty fix that works is to check the value of m_suspendEditEventFiltering before setting it to true. I don't know the internals of KateVi to know whether this is the ok thing to do, it will allow recursion level 1 and cut anything deeper. if (m_edit->isVisible()) { +if (m_suspendEditEventFiltering) return false; m_suspendEditEventFiltering = true; QKeyEvent keyEventCopy(keyEvent->type(), keyEvent->key(), keyEvent->modifiers(), keyEvent->text(), keyEvent->isAutoRepeat(), keyEvent->count()); qApp->notify(m_edit, ); -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 367637] New: KWin triggers OSD for the keyboard layout change even if there are no changes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367637 Bug ID: 367637 Summary: KWin triggers OSD for the keyboard layout change even if there are no changes Product: kwin Version: git master Platform: Compiled Sources OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: ivan.cu...@kde.org I have set the keyboard layout changing to (left) Alt+Space. (have had it for quite some time now and only recently got this issue - maybe because OSD didn't show up for layout changing before) Now, every time that I press the space key (without modifiers, with ctrl, with anything) I get the OSD stating my keyboard layout has been changed. The interesting thing is that the OSD actually cycles through all the layouts, even if the layout is never changed. When I do press Alt+Space, the layout changes as it should, and the OSD pops up telling me I changed to a wrong one because it thinks the ordinary 'space' presses changed the layout before. The icon notifier in the system tray works without issues - it always correctly shows the current layout. The place where the OSD is triggered is Xkb::updateModifiers (tested with bustle). Reproducible: Always -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 366033] Imrove The Activity Switcher user interaction
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366033 --- Comment #4 from Ivan Čukić--- > So this is based in the fact tha the user would use Meta+Tab something to > switch between > activities and not use the mouse... I see... Not only that. The present windows kwin effect is used with a mouse - you get an overview of all windows, you know which one to switch to, and you select it. That window gets focus and you exit the present windows effect. You can use QML or QWidgets, whichever you are more comfortable with. If you are using QWidgets, you can use the KActivities::ActivitiesModel class to show activities in a QListView or something like that (you would probably need to pass it through a sorting proxy model to order them by name), while for QML you have also the option to use ActivitySwitcher.Backend.runningActivitiesModel() which is used in the regular switcher. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=366033 Ivan Čukićchanged: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |WONTFIX Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED --- Comment #2 from Ivan Čukić --- Hi Michail, The activity switcher is designed to work like a switcher (window switcher for example - alt+tab, present windows...) and not like a browser (widget explorer). This was discussed a few times now, and the consensus was that the main use-case is that the user knows which activity to switch to. That is where all the design issues came from. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365836 Ivan Čukićchanged: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |FIXED Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED --- Comment #6 from Ivan Čukić --- > So perhaps it will make sense why I preferred the behavior in Plasma 5.5 Now I understand. Yes, the shortcuts are now meant only as the alt-tab analogue for activities. Previously, meta+tab was confusing to the users, and this change was requested and then vetted by the plasma team. Binding this to mouse buttons is an evil thing to do, but I do understand your point of view. Mind that this way you will have a problem if you cycle through activities like that since plasma will think all activities have been used recently. My suggestion is to bind one of the mouse buttons to toggling the activity switcher, and then choosing the exact activity you want to switch to. If you do not want this, keep reading :) > On top of those personal workflow preferences there is still the race > condition with > "next activity." if "previous activity" returns you to the activity you were > using previously The shortcuts have been renamed to "Walk through activities" like it is for alt+tab and "Walk through windows". The old names should not be visible in the UI anywhere. -- Now, while this behaviour is not going to be reverted to the old one, the old behaviour can be /easily/ replicated. You can get the files next-activity.sh and prev-activity.sh from [1] and bind them to your mouse buttons. These scripts will become a part of kactivities-cli command-line utility so that people do not need to do hacks like the manual keyboard shortcut invocation like you have done. Do you have anything strange in your session, does the session terminate when this happens? This crash is benign as far as the activity manager is concerned since it happens when it exists, and it keeps its data safe even in the case of crashes. Then confirm the data has been written? Having 92% of a partition used might lead to insufficient disk space problems since on most file-systems, a few percent (usually around 5%) is 'reserved' for the root user. Now, there is some issue with the activity shortcuts in Plasma 5.7, and that one is the next item on my TODO list. [kactivitymanagerd] [Bug 365606] createActivity in plasma script unreliable
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365606 --- Comment #12 from Ivan Čukić--- Changing KActivities to be more synchronous is a tad more intrusive than I hoped it would be - it is designed to have everything as asynchronous as possible. [kactivitymanagerd] [Bug 365606] createActivity in plasma script unreliable
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365606 --- Comment #11 from Ivan Čukić--- Ok, the final problem found - ScriptEngine::desktopsForActivity tests whether the activity exists and it is called before the signal that the activity has been created arrived in plasma. The problematic situation: 1. The script requests activity creation 2. Activity manager registers a new activity 3. desktopsForActivity tests whether activity exists, it does not as far as plasma is concerned 4. Plasma gets the signal that the new activity has been created Now, this might be something to change in the activities framework - not to wait until the 'new activity' signal arrives before adding it to local cache, but I'm not sure it would be a good idea. There are currently no synchronization guarantees in kactivities. Can you test the following: - What happens if you remove ~/.local/share/kactivitymanagerd (log out before deleting, and log back in) - What happens for the new (empty) user? - What happens if you remove the above mentioned directory, rename .local to .local.backup and do a cp -rvi .local.backup .local? (again, log out before that, and back in after you finish) Cheers, Ivan -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 364338] Activity switcher calls in XQueryKeymap on wayland
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364338 --- Comment #5 from Ivan Čukić--- Can someone test https://phabricator.kde.org/D1963 whether this is ok? p.s. Sebas, I'm not British, when I say "it would be appreciated" I actually mean that :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 364338] Activity switcher calls in XQueryKeymap on wayland
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364338 --- Comment #4 from Ivan Čukić--- @martin I can do that for now, but it means the feature will be broken until we find a way to do it via kwin. @sebas I'm sorry if I sounded like "i don't use it, I don't care". I was just asking for help since I have no idea how to handle this on wayland. And without wayland setup, issues like these slip up. In the past, I missed to guard against a few X-related things, and once even guarded something that Martin later said was not necessary (and the guards passed all other reviewers) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
