As far as I see, this is not kolourpaint specific.
e.g. try copy something from loffice writer, quit loffice, start it again and
try to paste the previous. Here it pastes nothing.
This is what I can remember forever: whenever you close the originating
application, the clipboard content gets lost -
unless you probably have klipper running.

I found out that the image file itself is not corrupt, since e.g. gimp can
still load it correctly.
It seems this is a problem with reading the file. Will investigate further.

[kde] [Bug 488308] New: ksmserver authentication regression

2024-06-10 Thread Martin Koller
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488308

Bug ID: 488308
   Summary: ksmserver authentication regression
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kol...@aon.at
  Target Milestone: ---

On openSuse Leap 15.5, the latest update of ksmserver to 5.27.9
brought a regression where every X11 program I start in a konsole prints some
authentication error.
E.g.
starting kwrite:
Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified
are supported

starting xclock:
Warning: Tried to connect to session manager, None of the authentication
protocols specified are supported

Since I have seen that something was changed w.r.t. auth in ksmserver, I
cross-checked by reinstalling an older version of ksmserver: 5.27.4.1
and see - no more auth errors!

Yes, using just one thread for this huge files is the bottleneck.
In my local test backing up a 65GB file took more than 5 hours. Just for a
cross-check, the "xz" tool alone would also take that long (when not
explicitely told to use multiple threads).

The current implementation uses the KDE class KCompressionDevice, which seems
to not leverage multiple threads,
so this needs to be implemented either in kbackup or in some way in the KDE
classes used.

I suggest you better don't use compression when having huge files.

Hi. Thanks for your report - jour style is fun to read :-)

I tried to reproduce this issue here, but using a smaller file with ca. 65GB
and some other smaller files.
The backup completed here after more than 5(!) hours...
But the backup archive did correctly include all files, also the large one!

Also checking the source and I can't see how a file would not be included in
the tar file without an error given.

Just to be sure: How did you check the content of the archive after the backup?
Does "tar -tvf " also not show the large file?

kolourpaint uses the Qt and KDE libraries to open files. It does not provide
code itself for the image file formats.
It seems Qt has still no support for this:

Smooth scaling has nothing to do with the aspect ratio. You will see a
pixelated scaled selection especially when you use non-orthogonal lines, e.g.
circles, etc.

So let's change this into a wish for a setting of smooth/non-smooth selection
scaling then.

You probably want to use a version control system instead, if you need this
kind of complexity (going back/forth to save-point).

For the undo history, what is confusing? Or do you simply suggest it would be
better to also see an image at that point in time
(like gimp does) ?

No, it doesn't. Just make sure you select "Resize" as said above, and NOT

What you observe is the result of the smooth-scale algorithm, which in general
makes scaled images less pixelated.

What you can do to avoid this, is using the Selection -> Resize/Scale menu
action (CTRL-E)
and select "Act on Selection" and "Scale" instead of "Smooth Scale".

Would be cool to be able to use kdiff3 to also check directories for
differences even when they contain e.g. image files.
kdiff3 already can compare binary wise, so I can already see if any images (in
my case PNGs) are different, but when I then only see the list of different
images, it would be nice when I could directly start an external program to
show me the actual difference between the two images (e.g. I created my own
pixel difference program).
This mechanism of course should work for any type of file, so I should be able
to configre an external diff tool per file type.

yes, I did. But it does not open it in konqueror, instead a double click on

Strangely, the right-click context menu shows here for "open with" only:
firefox, other Application
Why does it not also show konqueror ?

I'm viewing the smb:// folder with konqueror itself in listView mode.
And yes, it also happens when I try the same when the index.html is on my local
disk.

What I just now discovered is, that not only konqueror opens a new window
showing konq:blank
but ALSO a new firefox window is opened, which then displays the selected
index.html.
So it seems, the "open with other application" dialog does not care what I
selected and still opens
(in addition) the page with the default browser I have set in systemsettings.

konqueror as browser instead, so I right-click on the index.html file (which is
shown in list view on an smb:// folder).

Two issues arise:
1) the new "open with" dialog does not show konqueror - only firefox.
2) I need to click "show all applications", then I click konqueror, which opens
konqi but instead opening
the index.html file, it just shows konq:blank

Trying to move from konqueror as Webbrowser to Falkon, but Falkon does not

I have a recurring calendar event. The invitation was originally also sent via
email.
Now the organizer sent me a cancellation mail for todays event, which kmail
shows with
the "Remove invitation from my calendar" button in the mail.

However clicking on this button leads to nothing. The event for today is still
shown in korganizer.

Using firefox 109.0.1 (64-bit), trying to import bookmarks into falkon simply
fails with an error dialog showing:
No query Unable to fetch row

I selected ~/.mozilla/firefox/mmcuahpg.default/places.sqlite to import.

OK, found out that this is only the case while firefox is still running.
Using sqlitebrowser on the same file gave me the hint: It said
Could not open database file.
Reason: database is locked

Would be great if the falkon message would be equally helpful

Since years there is the problem that mails get lost and represent themselves
as
(No Subject), Unknown Sender, 0-timestamp in kmails message list.
Even showing them in "Message as plain text" shows a completely empty dialog.

Here this happens a lot where I get mails via davmail running locally which
itself connects to the company EWS.

I have the feeling that this happens more frequently when a bunch of new mails
arrive "simultaneously",
e.g. more on auto-generated mails coming from our bugtracker.

I know this is not reliabely reproducible, but is really a serious issue, since
I constantly lose mails!

[kbackup] [Bug 464712] KBackup archives cannot be restored. - tar files are corrupt

2023-01-30 Thread Martin Koller
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464712

I don't want to go that route. It would also need double the space on your disk
and is probably slow.
I looked into the ark sources since I can open a tar file with 12GB when I
created it on the command line.
What I found is that they are not using KTar but the libArchive library, which
can handle a lot of other archive formats as well
(which I don't need in kbackup).
It seems the simplest way is to also use this lib instead reimplemeting all
this enhanced tar formats libarchive
has already implemented.

Found the problem.
It's a bug in the KTar implementation.
The size of a file is stored inside the tar file header as an octal encoded
string.
strange, but obviously a very old format from the good old Unix days ;-)

The string is limited to 11 chars, which means: the maximum file size is
8589934591 Bytes.
Sadly KTar has no check for an overflow in our case and simply cuts the 12th
character. In my testcase I have a file being ~12GB, which is 1228800
bytes,
which should be encoded as the string "13343300", but KTar writes it as
"1334330" leading to a size showing as 153600 bytes.

In the short term this means I need to implement a check which limits the
backup
to files with the above max length and kbackup will cancel a backup when a too
large
file is found.

As far as i know, any Qt or KDE based program can dynamically load specific
dialog plugins, which best fit to the current desktop environment.
You probably use a Gnome desktop, where I guess the color selector dialog is
from.

You'll get the KDE based dialog when you run in a KDE desktop.

whatever your color selector is, it's not the std. KDE one (which I have

So probably it's Ubuntu specific. Please ask on an Ubuntu bug

This makes it impossible for me to adjust my layout as I need to for various
usecases.
I'll try to fix the mistake for you, but you should remove your overrides from
your app's code entirely.
If I can't fix the paddings, I'll fall back to a default layout, but it'll be
slightly incorrect and lacks
adaptations needed for touch screens and right-to-left languages, among other
things.

~/.config/kolourpaintrc

~ is an abbreviation for your home directory.
Assume your login name is nevatron12 then your home directory is most likely
/home/nevatron12 so the file
is then /home/nevatron12/.config/kolourpaintrc

When kolourpaint is not running, remove the file ~/.config/kolourpaintrc
That should show kolourpaint in its default state the next time you start it,
including the colors

What about the other question: Does ritgh-click on the menu give you the option
to show it again ?

I see the same backtrace when using the bluetooth settings and then I click on
my headphone entry.
The crash happens in Qt code in widgets/styles/qstylesheetstyle.cpp:2467

2467if (const QAbstractScrollArea *sa = qobject_cast(w->parentWidget())) {
since "w" is a nullptr.

>From what I see, it's a bug in Qt since QStyle::drawPrimitive() allows the
QWidget argument to be a nullptr,
but the case PE_PanelLineEdit does not check this.

Still something must have been changed recently in KDE since the same dialog
worked just before my last
openSuse Tumbleweed upgrade.
