Perhaps restart > plasmashell from a terminal and check output. What commands would you use for that inside a running KDE Neon 5.8.5? (In reply to Eike Hein from comment #9) > That said, it would be technically pretty difficult to do, perhaps - I don't > think minimized windows are part of the stacking order, so there no way to > find out what "the most recent window of that group" was without tons of > tracking we currently don't do. Checked it again on Windows 10. Actually, Windows 10 does not minimize/un-minimize in this case. Upon clicking, it simply closes the window thumbnail previews. That is still better than falling back to that group popup dialog in KDE. May I ask what's the reasoning behind falling back to the group popup dialog? I don't see any advantage in falling back to that group popup dialog. I'd say it would be better to simply close the window thumbnail previews upon click. And I also do not see any advantage in bringing up Present Windows, because, why would you, you already have the window preview thumbnails. But, again, minimizing/un-minimizing would be even better. Even though MS Windows is not doing it like that ;). So, here's actually a feature request that does not ask to replicate something from Windows but doing something differently ;). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I have "Present Windows" enabled in KWin and have it set to the default settings and I can successfully toggle it with CTRL+F7/F9/F10. > Failing either it falls back to the same popup dialog the regular TM > shows for a group. See above. Present Windows is working on the hardware here, yet clicking on an icon-only task manager launcher with more than one open window does not bring up Present Windows. Instead, it brings up this https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=103709. What could be causing this? Besides: I don't really want it to bring up the Present Windows effect. I would like it to minimize/maximize the most recent window of that group. Just as it is being done for a launcher that has just one open Window. And just as it is being done in Windows 7/8/8.1/10. Is it possible to configure it like that? Or is there any chance you could add an option for that? IMHO this would make for a much better workflow and a better UX. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I don't think so. There already is a very good indicator to show if the window is active or not: The text and the buttons in the title bar become grayed out on inactive windows. It's done like that for many other DE's as well as other OSes, so that's actually what the expected behavior would be. (In reply to Hugo Pereira Da Costa from comment #4) > The dark background for the active window title in the breeze-light > decoration is a design choice, decided to make the active window more easily > distinguishable from the inactive ones. When an app is launched, there is a very faint bar next to the icon, which is supposed to indicate that the app is running without the window being on top. This bar is really hard to see. Once a window is on top, this bar will change to a faint dark blue color, indicating that the window is on top, which is still not really good to see. When hovering over an app which is not running, the icon of the app is lighting up. When hovering over an app which is running, the icon is lighting up and there's a blue colored rectangle around the icon. I know you said you don't care what MS Windows is doing, but Windows 10 is doing a better job at this. Windows 10 is doing it like this: When an app is not running, there is no indicator, there's only the icon. When hovering over that icon, theres a faint gray rectangle around the icon, indicating that the cursor is hovering over it. When an app is running, there's a blue bar next to the icon, regardless of the window being on top or not. That way it's much easier to see which apps are running. When the window of an app is on top, a bright gray rectangle is being drawn around the icon to highlight that this is the currently active window. All in all, it feels a lot better to navigate the icon-only task manager of Windows 10 compared to the icon-only task manager of Plasma, due to the reasons mentioned above. Any chance you could do something about that? Regards -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

There's one regression though: When having more than one instances of one app grouped together in one icon and then hovering over the icon, the window preview thumbnails show up. When then hovering over the thumbnails, there no longer is any visual clue for which thumbnail / window you're hovering over. In Plasma 5.8, there was a visual clue due to the close icon being shown when hovering over a certain thumbnail. With 5.9, the close icon is always present on all thumbnails. Could you please fix that? And could you possibly add some kind of additional highlighting over a thumbnail when hovering the cursor over it (i.e. changing the color of the frame around the thumbnail when hovering the cursor over it)? What's being described in "Task Manager Progress" over there is what MS Windows provides since Windows 7 and is also available in Canonical's Unity. But it's about the app icon in the task manager on the panel, not the thumbnail that appears when hovering over the icon. So, could you please elaborate what you mean with "not based on a scaled down thumbnail"? Because https://community.kde.org/KWin/Window_Metadata does not explain it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 375671] Please add option to adjust window thumbnail delay
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375671 N. W. changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |FIXED Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED --- Comment #4 from N. W. --- Okay, thanks a lot :) , that seems to work. And since MS Windows also doesn't have a GUI option for it, I guess we can resolve here. And thanks again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 375669] Please add option to adjust size of window thumbnails
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375669 --- Comment #2 from N. W. --- Well, I'd like to make them smaller. That's because I have "Force fonts DPI" set to 120, which makes the fonts bigger, which in turn makes the window thumbnails grow unreasonably in size, because their surrounding frame grows with the larger font. By the way, the app icon under the thumbnail also is unreasonably large. Here's how it looks in Windows 7: https://i-msdn.sec.s-msft.com/dynimg/IC420541.png Here's how it looks in Windows 10: http://superuser.com/questions/958690/how-to-make-windows-10-taskbar-thumbnail-previews-bigger So, while being at it, could you please also: - Reduce the size of the frame around the thumbnails - Reduce the size of the app icon inside the frame around the thumbnails - Reduce the overall font size of the text inside the frame around the thumbnails - Move the app icon and text from below the thumbnail to above the thumbnail (just like in Windows 7/8/8.1/10) Regards -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 375671] Please add option to adjust window thumbnail delay
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375671 --- Comment #2 from N. W. --- Actually I have already searched for a global tooltip delay option, but couldn't find it and then submitted this feature request. Could you please tell me where that tooltip delay option resides? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[frameworks-plasma] [Bug 360457] WindowThumnail renders with QSGTexture::Nearest on at least intel chips
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360457 --- Comment #8 from N. W. --- (In reply to Martin Gräßlin from comment #7) > >How can one also enable it for the taskbar window thumbnails? > > You cannot. But why not? Could you please elaborate? Why does it work for the ALT+TAB thumbnails, but not for the task manager thumbnails? Could you please elaborate? It would be much appreciated, because the ALT+TAB thumbnails with Lanczos scaling look _much_ better than the task manager thumbnails with nearest neighbour scaling. I have recently switched to KDE because it's the only DE which has an icon-only task manager and task manager window thumbnails out of the box, just like Windows 7/8/8.1/10, which is a very good thing. However, on MS Windows, the thumbnails look nice (due to Lanczos scaling), whereas on KDE they look ugly and kinda unreadable (due to the absence of Lanczos scaling). It would be a huge improvement if the task manager thumbnails would also scale using Lanczos. And technically it should work, since it also works just fine for the ALT+TAB thumbnails, right? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 375671] New: Please add option to adjust window thumbnail delay
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375671 Bug ID: 375671 Summary: Please add option to adjust window thumbnail delay Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: unspecified OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Icons-only Task Manager Assignee: h...@kde.org Reporter: nw9165-3...@yahoo.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 Hi, when hovering the cursor over an icon on the task manager, a window thumbnail appears. However, there's a certain delay until the thumbnail appears. On MS Windows, this delay can be adjusted. Could you please add an option to adjust this delay? IMHO the delay is too long by default. [plasmashell] [Bug 375668] New: Window thumbnails not stacked vertically with vertical panel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375668 Bug ID: 375668 Summary: Window thumbnails not stacked vertically with vertical panel Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: unspecified OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Icons-only Task Manager Assignee: h...@kde.org Reporter: nw9165-3...@yahoo.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 Hi, the window thumbnails that show up when hovering the cursor over an icon on the task manager are not stacked vertically with a vertical panel. Instead, they are being aligned horizontally. On Windows 7/8/8.1/10, the window thumbnails are stacked vertically with a vertical taskbar, so that would be the expected behavior. Could you please fix it or add an option to make the window thumbnails stack vertically instead of horizontally? Regards -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 375666] Please add option to adjust output RGB range
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375666 --- Comment #1 from N.
