[kwin] [Bug 489806] Make it possible so that background window does not raise when starting a drag (mouse down), but does on click

This is actually a well known (and very old) pattern that is used on both Macs
and Win machines. My understanding is that there is a setting to control this
behavior but there are two issues:
1. It's off by default
2. Even on, it's not quite implemented right

If fixed, having this on has zero negative effects so I'd argue, it should be
on by default

As it's currently implemented, turning this on requires 2 clicks to raise the
background window which is a missed opportunity as it's not required. A much
simpler flow is:
1. There are two windows, a background SOURCE window and a foreground TARGET
window
2. MouseDown in SOURCE highlights the icon and starts a drag, SOURCE is NOT
raised.
3. If the user does a MouseUp at this point, SOURCE raises (and the icon is
still selected)
4. If instead the user starts to drag to TARGET and release, SOURCE still does
not raise

This handles all cases of raising: click still raises a window but dragging a
background window is still possible without raising. Better UX overall and no
setting needed.

It looks like the problem is that I cannot upgrade to the latest version.
I am using KDE on top of linux-mint. I have tried several different ways
to get the latest KDE and Plasma, but they just don't seem to be available.

[krfb] [Bug 488153] New: KRFB - the unattended password appears to change randomely

2024-06-07 Thread Scott
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488153

Bug ID: 488153
Summary: KRFB - the unattended password appears to change
randomely
Classification: Applications
   Product: krfb
   Version: 23.08.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: grundleb...@googlemail.com
  Reporter: shagooser...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
>From time to time it is not possible to connect to KRFB from KRDC. When
connecting I normally just choose the server and click on it and it connects.
Sometimes a dialogue box pop-up appears requesting a password which is never
accepted despite it being correct. The only way I have solved the problem is to
re-enter the KRFB unattended password which will allow me to connect. I
re-enter the same password but I am unable to determine what, if, any, password
KRFB has stored.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Keep attempting to connect to the server until a password dialogue box
appears (could be 20+ attempts) from KRDC.
2.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing is observed on the KRFB computer, only on the KRDC computer.

EXPECTED RESULT
That the KRDC computer can connect normally.

Bug ID: 483052
Summary: Plasma 6 - stuttering, redrawing previous frames? I
have examples of video stuttering and typing
stuttering.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.1
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: cru...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Apologies, I'm not an expert in graphics/compositing/drawing, so please let me
know if I can provide any other info.

Using Plasma 6 (which I understand is wayland), stutters and redraws previous
frames. For example, in Guake, when typing, characters will appear, but
sometimes the most recent character would disappear (reverting back to a state
before the keypress?). Or when backspacing, the characters will disappear, but
occasionally reappear. I tried to capture a video (with my cell phone - I
didn't trust screen capture to "see" compositing glitches). The HTML rendering
in Google Chrome was also glitchy. Reddit had elements
flickering/disappearing/reappearing. I also captured stuttering on a YouTube
video.

I've have example videos of YouTube and typing stuttering in Google Chrome, but
issues affect much more than just Chrome: my Jetbrains IDEs, Guake, etc, etc.

YouTube video stuttering: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RmJwtWZDdp4uvAyH9
Typing stuttering: https://photos.app.goo.gl/XDtJ2LGgZKEer61J8

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Plasma 6? No specific steps. Stuttering seems to be happening across
multiple applications.

[krita] [Bug 481548] After switching to new Hugo based website, Welcome Page News section is not fetching non-English news properly

2024-02-22 Thread Scott Petrovic
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481548

Yes. I think they way it works now is because of how the new website logic is
showing posts - and that is carrying through to the application.

1. English - Always just shows English of course
2. Chinese - Tries to get chinese news, but will show English post if it is not

Now if you are in the Krita application and select both English and Chinese,
There will be a lot of duplicate English posts as the Chinese language also
shows English...in addition to the English posts. Chinese does not just show
Chinese news with the new system. That was a recent change that was requested.

We might not need to have multiple languages selected in the Krita application
now as it shows all the posts.

[krita] [Bug 481548] After switching to new Hugo based website, Welcome Page News section is not fetching non-English news properly

I think we will need some more discussion on this. This was specifically
requested for me to change how krita.org shows news post. The English news
posts should show in the case that there is no translated language. The idea
was that Krita is still doing active things...even if there is no translated
news post.

The original discussion was around krita.org, but we didn't think about how
this would affect how the news would appear on the Krita application. Once we
decide what to do, we can make whatever changes.

[kde] [Bug 476973] New: HDDs conected to plug-in SATA card classified by Dolphin as Removable Devices rather than Devices

2023-11-13 Thread Scott
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476973

Bug ID: 476973
Summary: HDDs conected to plug-in SATA card classified by
Dolphin as Removable Devices rather than Devices
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: RedHat Enterprise Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: shagooser...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have 11 HDDs 3 of which are connected to a SATA expansion card ad these
disks are classified as Removable Devices by Dolphin rather than Devices.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug a SATA expansion card into a PCIe lane and connect a SATA HDD to it.
2. Open Dolphin and find it's classified as removable storage.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
As above

EXPECTED RESULT
That either Dolphin detects that the SATA card is plugged into a PCIe slot and
hence assumes internal drive or I have the ability to nominate if it is
internal or removable.

Displayed document order

SUMMARY

With the "Document Path" sort order selected, files in a directory tree are
shown in an apparently random order.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open files in a directory tree in a random order from the filesystem view
2. Observe their order in the Document view (in "Tree Mode")

OBSERVED RESULT

See attached screenshot. This is not an ordering I recognize.

Confirmed with 5.25.6 built with kdesrc-build, as well as found
application-side fix which may help indicating the issue. Turning off "override
window manager shortcuts" in Renoise's settings, in the Keys tab, ends this
behaviour entirely for Renoise.

Update: issue now begins at session start, rather than taking extended usage
time to happen, with Plasma 5.27.5. Issue also observed with Qucs-S,
occasionally Discord, and one time Firefox. I will make attempts to build a
newer version of Plasma to see if it persists then.

Hi,

Just to let you know that podofo 0.10.0 has some API-breaking changes and
krename doesn't currently build with it. This wouldn't normally be important,
but the 0.9.x series has some open CVEs on it that don't look like they're
going to get fixes backported to them. There's some helpful porting information
here https://github.com/podofo/podofo/wiki/PoDoFo-API-migration-guide

See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open affected software (Renoise in this case)
2. Use for at least 10 minutes, saving modules frequently. Less time is needed
if any Electron wrapper application is running (for some reason?)
3. Attempt to input notes on the tracker matrix

OBSERVED RESULT
One keypress is registered, then keyboard focus is deflected away from Renoise.
No idea where it goes. Clicking re-latches it. Renoise does not indicate that
the focus has gone elsewhere in Renoise.

EXPECTED RESULT
Keyboard focus remains persistent on Renoise, allowing the software to be used.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Devuan GNU/Linux (also observed in Arch Linux and Debian
Stable)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.2 (observed as old as 5.7, untested prior)
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version: 5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Observed consistently in KWin wayland sessions for the majority of the history
of the history of KWin as a wayland compositor, when using Renoise. Previously
seen in Ferdi as well, seems to have been fixed their-end as of the fork to
Ferdium. Issue does not present in KWin X11 sessions, nor any other wayland
compositor (ruling out a Renoise issue). Issue has been final blocking item to
using Plasma in Wayland for multiple years for myself and I had wrongly assumed
that it would have already been reported.

Bug is more likely to happen quickly if the session has been running for at
least four hours, but is always a "matter-of-time" subject, and not a
"will-it-happen" subject. Longest I have been able to continually use Renoise
for in a Plasma 5 wayland session was 25 minutes, directly after boot and going
straight into Renoise. Shortest was 10 seconds, 5 days after boot.

If relevant, this has been observed using locally-built from-git mesa on AMD
graphics hardware using the amdgpu and radeonsi driver set. This has not been
tested with distro mesa on debian or devuan, but was present with distro mesa
on arch linux. This has been tested with only one keyboard, which presents one
keyboard, two mice, and one controller device, to the operating system. These
are mentioned due to feasibility that this bug may be of the "distant
ramifications" sort.

To cover all situations it would be best to enable the user to specify a

use /mnt/data2/Vaults/Music Vault/ as that is where my music is.

SUMMARY
***
Saved playlists are not loaded/played correctly.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an album, sort it in the order you want and press the save button.
2. Update and close Elisa
3. Re-open Elisa and navigate artist>album>click play button in cover art which
brings up a playlist in some unknown order. (image 1)
4. Pause and load the playlist you just saved (image 2).

OBSERVED RESULT
>From point 3 above a playlist is automatically generated in some unknown order.
It is not alphabetical nor does it use the embedded track number in the
metadata (image 1).

>From point 4 above a playlist is created but not the saved playlist you just
loaded or the playlist generated in point 3 (image 2).

Alternatively, right click file > Open with Elisa and a third playlist order
is generated (image 3).

EXPECTED RESULT
1. That an album's play order default to the track number order contained in
the file's metadata.
2. Where the file/folder does not contain metadata but has a manually saved
playlist that that playlist be used in the order it is saved with.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 22.10
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6
Kernel Version: 5.19.0-31-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor
Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
Product Name: MS-7C35
System Version: 2.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The m3u8 file that is saved does not appear to be the problem as that file can
be read and played correctly by a number of other players.

Content of m3u8 file:
file:///mnt/data2/Vaults/Music Vault/ACDC/Jailbreak/01 Jailbreak.mp3
file:///mnt/data2/Vaults/Music Vault/ACDC/Jailbreak/02 You ain't got a hold on
me.mp3
file:///mnt/data2/Vaults/Music Vault/ACDC/Jailbreak/03 Show business.mp3
file:///mnt/data2/Vaults/Music Vault/ACDC/Jailbreak/04 Soul stripper.mp3
file:///mnt/data2/Vaults/Music Vault/ACDC/Jailbreak/05 Baby, please don't
go.mp3

The naming convention here matches the metadata as regards track number.

So everything now is as it should be, close this ticket. The biggest issue to
report that was behind many of the problems I think was just age, me, the
albums, the poor condition of some of the metadata site information, the
transition from Windows years ago and the extra metadata tags I picked up over
decades. Cleaning, deleting and adding manually fixed everything.

SUMMARY
***
In the case of the band ACDC there is an issue where some metadata uses the
name ACDC and others AC/DC which results in 2 artist collections for the same
artist. The issue of getting all albums into 1 artist's collection can be
accomplished by editing the file's metadata, however there does not appear to
be a way to delete the duplicated entries, ie. I change the metadata from band
name AC/DC to ACDC and I now have the same album appearing under 2 artists.

This could be caused by having both names names appearing somewhere in the list
of tags of the various files but in the case of the album High Voltage I have
checked every file's tags 1 & 2 and that is not the case. I have reset database
and rescanned everything repeatedly.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. need to collect several ACDC albums and run Elisa
2.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
As discussed above and shown in the 2 attachments

EXPECTED RESULT
That when metadata is changed, it is reflected in the output of Elisa and the
incorrect or old data is purged.

[Elisa] [Bug 464965] Elisa only detects or even plays some albums

2023-02-06 Thread Scott
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464965

After further investigation I have now edited the metadata and got Elisa to
detect all albums. Part of the problem relates to a "deal" when I originally
purchased this album decades ago back in the '70s when an additional track(s)
were released/sold with the album and some problems with the metadata data in
the metadata files I used from Discogs.

So the problem appears not to be an Elisa problem and this bug can be closed
because it is not a bug. It would be helpful though if this metadata issue
could be referenced somewhere in the scant app documentation.

[Elisa] [Bug 464965] Elisa only detects or even plays some albums

2023-02-06 Thread Scott
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464965

As I said in my last post I found some albums once I realised some had been put
in another artist, ie. some albums are in artist ACDC and others in artist
AC/DC, also some are in both. Once I had a combined list I added a Format.jpg
file to each album folder that did not have this file and did a reset database
and rescan everything.

This is the album it won't recognise:
https://www.discogs.com/release/673094-ACDC-High-Voltage. Of note, this is the
band's first album only released in Australia and New Zealand and an album with
the same name but different tracks was released internationally (first
international album) at a later date. That said, the above link shows the
proper catalogue numbers etc.

After some further investigation I have reduced the number of not recognised
albums to 1. Although things are still far from right as shown in the 2
attachments as the albums are split between 2 artists despite them being the
same artist. For some albums to be recognised a .jpg file needs to be added to
the folder although this is not universally necessary as sometimes Elisa
supplies it own artwork from somewhere.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I use/prefer the baloo indexing method and the individual songs of the missing
albums are indexed by baloo. Over time many of the album folders have
accumulated non music files like jpg and desktop.ini. This seems not to matter
as some album folders without these extra files are recognised by Elisa.
An individual song can be searched and found from the missing albums.

[plasmashell] [Bug 452791] Black Screen When Starting Plasma (using Prime/NVIDIA on Wayland)

2022-09-11 Thread Scott

(In reply to Kyrylo Bohdanenko from comment #9)
> Upgrading to Kubuntu 22.10 w/ Plasma 5.25.5 resolved the issue for me.

Sadly I'm already on 5.25.5:

plasma-workspace-wayland/jammy,now 4:5.25.5-0ubuntu2~ubuntu22.04~ppa1 amd64
[installed]

I've tried a fresh build today with the same results. One thing of note is that
I'm not running a stock kernel, I'm running a kernel supplied by the
linux-surface project; 5.19.7-surface.

Sorry, I should have noted in my previous comment - this works in NVIDIA or
on-demand modes. Switching to Intel only (using prime-select intel) resolves
the issue. Obviously this means I then can't use my discrete GPU.

Xorg works fine; albeit it a bit rubbish due to the DPI differences between my
displays.

kio5slave core dump

I am also experiencing this issue on what appears to be a similar setup.

* Kubuntu 22.04 on laptop with Intel + NVIDIA graphics in on-demand mode with
closed-source NVIDIA driver
* 5.25 installed from kubuntu backports-extra
* Wayland
