I'm using the x11 graphics environment and it's just that the panel isn't
responding. I'm using someone else's GUI installer, and there is an alarm
administrator by default, and I'm a standard account(actor).

Thanks. As of 5.27.5 now it has indeed improved a lot. I can still reproduce a
misplacement issue with the following steps:

- Disconnect the laptop from external display
- Put laptop into sleep (suspend to ram)
- Connect the external display while laptop is sleeping
- Wake up laptop

The plasma panel is then shown on top of maximized windows (instead of taking
place and making maximized windows shrink to a smaller size). After another lid
close-open cycle, this would be fixed.

Yes, both screens have the same resolution and DPI.

This is the first time I try a wayland setup, and under X11 it just works as
expected.

I have tried to drag the panel from plasma's "Manage Panels and Desktops" and
sometimes it works. On next boot or if I close/re-open one monitor, Plasma will
misbehave again by either disappear and re-appear but staying over windows
(spacing issue) or just disappear completely.

I get this on both x11 (with either modesetting ddx or intel ddx) and wayland
(with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1), and switching windows often updates its content.

There are subtle differences though, which may indicate that multiple issues
are involved here:

- On X11, sometimes when tab content is not being updated, a big rectangle area
(centered, probably 1920x1080 out of 2560x1440) is affected and frozen but the
space around it is still being updated correctly (like scrolling the webpage).
Switching windows only updates the whole tab once.
- On Wayland, the tab content is often correctly updated all the time, but
switching tabs doesn't work and the old tab is still operational. Switching
windows will make the tab switching actually happen, for once.

SUMMARY
I try to use a mirrored display setup in a Plasma wayland session, but couldn't
make the panel stay on the screen.

- When I click the "Display Configuration" tray icon to set "Unify Outputs",
the outputs are unified correctly but the plasma panel hides immediately.

- If I use systemsettings to drag one display on top of the other, it works
correctly (the panel is shown and the outputs are unified); but when I turn off
one of the monitors, the panel is always gone again.

[kwin] [Bug 427979] Wrong icons in many windows after the Telegram identification fix

2020-10-21 Thread Felix Yan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427979

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2)
> Are you able to mention which game causes this to happen when it's running?

The offending game here is "中国式家长" (or "Chinese Parents" in English). The
desktop file should be generated by steam itself on installation (there is a
checkbox to add it to "Start Menu").

I suspect that it has something to do with the non-ascii characters here.

2020-10-19 Thread Felix Yan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427979

Turns out the wrong icon comes from
/home//.local/share/applications/.desktop which should be generated
by steam. Unfortunately steam is not open sourced.

I guess kwin should add some guards against choosing this file as the
application name is effectively empty?

[kwin] [Bug 427979] New: Wrong icons in many windows after the Telegram identification fix

2020-10-19 Thread Felix Yan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427979

Bug ID: 427979
Summary: Wrong icons in many windows after the Telegram
identification fix
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.20.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: felixonm...@archlinux.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After upgrading kwin from 5.19.5 to 5.20.0, many windows' icons in task
switcher and window decoration became a game's. The game is installed via
Steam, and I got at least another report of this problem in a local group.

The corresponding icon in plasma taskbar is not affected, though.

I have tried to revert
https://github.com/KDE/kwin/commit/7ea7aa1ee901921ca4f15e35e07ca8247af7e95b
manually (having some conflicts) and the problem goes away.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Not exactly sure why was the wrong icon chosen in the new codepath, so I am
currently unable to provide a way to reproduce.

I do not use kde. I don't know how to answer. I use vanilla ubuntu.

I would like this to be an option in Krita. How are you gonna support mac and
windows if this needs kde?

plus, photoshop has this feature built in.

SUMMARY

When I draw comic, I can't get the lines right with one try. I have to try many
times to draw a perfect line. For this reason, I need a quick way to undo my
change and try again.

When using photoshop, I configure one of the wacom pen button to be the undo.

But this is not doable with krita, as in the canvas shortcut settings, pen
button can't trigger undo at all.

Removed konsole, konsole-kpart and yakuake packages. Built and sudo make
install'ed konsole with these redefinitions:
cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
cmake .. -DKDE_INSTALL_QTPLUGINDIR=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins

The issue seems to be gone, at least can't reproduce after 5 minutes of
attempts.

It's sad that ubuntu doesn't have upstream kde repository,
kubuntu-ppa-ubuntu-backports is outdated.

Yes I'm sure since I had the same stack trace (removeAction in the top). In
yakuake I had two tabs and open searchbar, selected some text by words (double
click), then pressed right click and pressed copy text - and I got segfault. In
konsole I had two tabs too and a searchbar, but the crash occured right after I
selected text.

KDE allows you to configure fractional scaling in display settings (on my
laptop 120% is comfortable). It affects most of the system (chrome ignores it
e.g.), but plasmashell widgets remain same small with small icons (tray,
classic menu, menu). Fonts become larger.

[Spectacle] [Bug 408352] Application automatically saves image and exits with notification with rectangular screenshot

2019-06-11 Thread Yan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=408352

Thanks, klipper plasmoid should fix the issue.

@Boudhayan the problem is that I find `spectacle -r` more handy than qdbus
notification. kcmshell-keys doesn't provide a way to set ANY command to ANY
keyboard action, instead you can only commands from Exec sections in .desktop
files.

So I've spent around thirty minutes to get behaviour which I'm used to after
upgrade to newer plasma on my laptop instead. Now I'm happy and know better the
internals of KDE.

The problem that the expected way leads to problem of copy paste. I need to
copy screenshot to clipboard and DO NOT need to save it anywhere. In case of
qdbus the screenshot is saved and copy option has no effect since X server
clears buffer after process holding it's content terminates. So I can't copy it
and it is saved To Pictures folder :(

The difference between spectacle desktop files:
/usr/share/applications/org.kde.spectacle.desktop has exec like this:
Exec=qdbus org.kde.Spectacle / RectangularRegion true

~/.local/share/applications/org.kde.spectacle.desktop (my file):
Exec=spectacle -r

I edited shortcuts in "kcmshell5 keys" module. Both in spectacle section and
KDE daemon sections

Yes, I've tried IRC. I have waited some time for responce then shut down my PC
and in the morning didn't find a way to load messages that I wasn't able to
view. IRC is not user-friendly IMO.

Thanks for link to phabricator.

Personally I'm interested in fixing this issue. I have C++/Qt skills and even
wrote mail to kdepim mailing list but didn't receive any reply. I only lack of
knowledge how does akonandi framework works and what caused caldav to stop
working. So currently it's hard to start fixing this issue
