[kwin] [Bug 437783] New: Kwin crashes when mouse over time widget

2021-05-28 Thread luancarvalho
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=437783

Bug ID: 437783
Summary: Kwin crashes when mouse over time widget
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.21.4
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: luancarvalhomart...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I am experiencing a very peculiar, but annoying crash when some particular
steps are executed. Because I use the clock widget at bottom-right corner of
the screen, I end up triggering the crash inadvertently every now and then.
Also, when the crash happens, after I kill kwin-wayland and login again, some
processes eat up 100% of my CPU. It is generally some akonadi processes and/or
Yakuake. Effectively, I have to reboot after the crash happens.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Point to clock widget in a panel
2. Wait for the hovering box to appear
3. Move mouse out of the panel

OBSERVED RESULT
kwin crashes

EXPECTED RESULT
No crash

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 21.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.4

Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz
Memory: 15.4 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Only happens using plasma Wayland. Also, I only observed this bug after
activating PIM events plugin in the clock widget settings.

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: luancarvalhomart...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have seen this bug in KDE using Wayland, but it seems to be triggered by
something (I could not figure out why), it's not always present. The result is
that I cannot move a window to another workspace by dragging in the workspace
grid. Other methods work. I tried with GTK (Firefox) and Qt (Kate, Dolphin,
Konsole) windows to the same results. Sorry I have too few details about what
triggers it.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drag a window to another workspace in workspace grid
2. Drop the window
3. Nothing happens

OBSERVED RESULT
The window is not moved to the destination workspace

EXPECTED RESULT
The window should be in the other workspace

Nate Graham's comment actually encouraged me to setup a KDE dev-env to write a
patch regarding this bug, and perhaps start contributing a bit to KDE
development in general.

Yes, sure. I will make sure to test the import vault implementation.

Thank you very much.
