Same issue. Need all apps to assume their last known position on start and
when monitors are removed/added.

[KScreen] [Bug 464327] New: shortcut `toggle present all windows (all desktops)` not working with multiple monitors

2023-01-15 Thread nullsteph
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464327

Bug ID: 464327
Summary: shortcut `toggle present all windows (all desktops)`
not working with multiple monitors
Classification: Plasma
   Product: KScreen
   Version: 5.25.3
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: p.stephenwi...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The shortcut `toggle present all windows (all desktops)` also displays a search
box centered on the monitor. I can use that to give focus to an app window but
only when using a single display. It does not work with multiple displays.
What happens is the search will match the window and give it a blue outline but
it won't let me select it by hitting enter, or any other key/combo. When
running a single display, Enter does give focus to the matched window.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. run Plasma with 2 or more monitors.
2. trigger the shortcut.
3. search for a window title
4. expect to see matched window highlighted with outline color
5. hit Enter
6. expect nothing to happen

OBSERVED RESULT
nothing happens. The window is not given focus. The only option is to
abandoned the effort by escaping out of the flow.

EXPECTED RESULT
hitting Enter gives focus to the window and escapes out of the shortcut. It
should work the same with one monitor as two or more.

multimonitor bugs are a recurring issue. Why not make it required for all

KRunner/App-launcher share same config settings

SUMMARY
KRunner and the app launcher (Kickoff) share the same configuration settings.
This means that KRunner needs to have Applications checked in order for the app
launcher to display Application results.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. in Krunner config, deselect Applications
2. in the app-launcher (meta key), type Firefox
3. expect to see no results; see attached screenshot

OBSERVED RESULT
no Firefox app is listed

EXPECTED RESULT
Config settings for the app launcher are distinct and separate from KRunner

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I use KRunner to switch between running apps/windows and browser tabs only.
The app-launcher is for launching apps, opening folders, and everything else.
I don't know that it makes sense to have two separate apps sharing the same
config like this, and it boinks my workflow.

[krunner] [Bug 372288] krunner switch window focus

2019-08-08 Thread nullsteph
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372288

The Good:
Running Kubuntu 19.04 with a single desktop panel and 3 monitors, this is not
an issue most of the time. Some times some apps, such as Terminator and
Intellij do not get focus, or will lose it immediately. Still, most of the
time it works as expected. On a side note, the browser plugin Plasma
Integration makes KRunner's Browser feature work really well. I'm using it
with Vivaldi and Chrome, and loving it.

Plasma Integration
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/plasma-integration/cimiefiiaegbelhefglklhhakcgmhkai

The Bad:
What doesn't work is adding desktop panels to other monitors. As soon as I add
an empty panel with a TaskManger widget to another monitor, KRunner can not
focus the apps.

Same here on Kubuntu. It seems multiple monitors and multiple Panel/taskbars
boink the focusing mechanism. It works much better with 3 monitors when
there's only one Panel.
