[systemsettings] [Bug 413165] Please add option to reduce screen brightness in kcm_nightcolor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413165 --- Comment #17 from Aaron Wolf --- Yes indeed! I accidentally opened a duplicate issue. Now with KDE 6, things are moving that much more to Wayland. My external displays at 0% brightness are still WAY too bright for real nighttime (with dim room lighting). I want a gamma-based (or whatever appropriate) way to reduce brightness like Redshift has — and this feature to adjust that gamma as part of the Night Light settings. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Brightness (even via gamma) would be really great for Night Color. One of the biggest things I am missing since switching to Wayland full time as Redshift doesn't work on Wayland. Anyone know of any other work arounds ? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413165 --- Comment #14 from BeatLink --- Additionally, there could be an option to allow the user to choose between manipulating the gamma levels and the backlight levels. Both should be rather easy to implement since KCM should have access to these options already from its brightness applet and display modules -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Many studies have shown that not only the screen color temperature can affect sleep, but the screen brightness as well. In fact, some studies, such as this one: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6751071/ found that screen brightness had a greater effect on sleep than even the color temperature -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413165 --- Comment #10 from Matija Kovačević --- (In reply to Matija Kovačević from comment #9) > The feature would be great! > > An addition to the following would be great: > When working in the setup with the closed laptop's lid and monitor, one > could use the try widget/icon for battery (To show Energy information), to > increase/decrease the brightness for the currently "active" monitor. > Or when the laptop lid is open, for all monitors, or some option to choose. TYPO FIXES: - use the tray widget/icon by scrolling the mouse-wheel - now it works only for my laptop screen, but not for the connected monitor -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413165 --- Comment #7 from João Figueiredo --- I'm all for this! The way redshift does it is by simply decreasing the gamma, which allows for a lower effective brightness than just turning the actual brightness all the way down. Maybe it could be implemented this way too? It seems easier and, like I said, has the advantage of being able to dim the screen further than with the normal brightness (or maybe add both a brightness and a gamma slider?) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[systemsettings] [Bug 413165] Please add option to reduce screen brightness in kcm_nightcolor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=413165 --- Comment #5 from Daniel Tang --- This would be really nice. I updated KDE one day and noticed that it added built-in Night Color. I promptly enabled it and uninstalled redshift. I soon noticed that I had the brightness dimmed in redshift but in KDE there wasn't an option for that. I am on a desktop with dual external monitors. I can't change the brightness on the monitors themselves because they don't let me change the brightness in SRGB mode. I also don't want to turn off SRGB because the monitors are slightly different models and the color would be weird. I tried setting the brightness using xrandr but that undid the effect of Night Mode. I would greatly appreciate it if KDE Night Mode could change both the color and the brightness -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
