I'm not Raphael, but I can field this one.

Newer Intel chipsets have integrated GPUs. These GPUs use Kernel
Mode Switching, which FreeBSD does not support (yet; work is being
done on it.) A lot of newer laptops use the Intel integrated GPUs,
apparently KDE has made support of them a priority.

If you don't have one of these Intel chipsets, it shouldn't have any
effect whatsoever. Except that KDE requires a higher version of Mesa
DRI then FreeBSD currently supports.

DRI 7.11 is in the xorg-dev repository, but that's also where work is
being done on the xorg intel driver. That driver isn't even close to
production level yet, and requires you to be on 9-Beta 3 or newer.

Hm? What new feature should I request? Hi, I need a new feature that makes
an existing feature work correctly..

The problem is not that I am asking for something that KDE doesnt already do
on other platforms. This is something that is already supposed work, and
does, on other platforms.

Other prompt for authentication stuff was also broken under 4.6.5, but most
of them are now corrected in the latest release, 4.7.2, except the mounting of
internal media, which now complains An error occurred while accessing '20.0
GiB Hard Drive', the system responded:
org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy:
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed no -- (action, result)

Prior to 4.7.2, the last part would say admin-auth -- (action, result)

Also, in 4.7.2 - I can no longer find that policy to change it, so now there is
no apparent workaround, other than simply mounting the partition/slice by
hand.

I installed the polkit KCM from this location:
https://projects.kde.org/projects/extragear/base/polkit-kde-
kcmodules-1/repository

To try and see if i could change the mount-fixed option, but it doesn't appear
to exist..

[kde-freebsd] qt4 ignores custom compiler from /etc/make.conf

2011-10-24 Thread Axel Gonzalez

I'm setting up distcc for speeding compile times, but qt ports doesn't use the
compiler specified in make.conf .

As of now is not a big deal, it just adds a few hors compile (still would like
it distributed), but what about clang (didn't try with it)

Most other ports work with distributed compiling.

So far I've tried qt4-corelib and webkit

Any pointers if this is a bug or a feature ?

Greetings!

Qt 4 can be built with optional support for:
 - Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS)
 - Network Audio System (NAS)
 - Qt style that renders using GTK (QGTKSTYLE)

In order to enable them, you have to add

x11-toolkits/qt4-gui ports.

Attention! Whenever you change the QT4_OPTIONS both

Recent versions of this compiler automatically include code for

Not a bug nor a feature. Well, perhaps a feature. Qt 4 requires to be
built by the same compiler, thus, if you installed qt4-corelib with
compiler A, you can't compile qt4-webkit with compiler B, as it will
just use A (check bsd.qt.mk, search for QMAKESPEC). And the check is
done using the name of the binary. Also, a mkspec must exist for the
compiler to be supported, but there's no such thing for distcc. I'm
not sure on how to handle this, as I don't know distcc (yet). Isn't
ccache an option? That works fine because it uses the same names of
the original compilers.

By the way, you'll need to reinstall qmake4 each time you want to
change Qt compiler... I think.

Sorry, I'm not really lucid at the moment (got two teeth extracted!),
but that's a beginning.

Re: [kde-freebsd] qt4 ignores custom compiler from /etc/make.conf

2011-10-24 Thread Olivier Smedts
2011/10/24 Alberto Villa avi...@freebsd.org:

I think.

Are you sure ? I compiled all my qt4 ports with clang except
qt4-webkit because it was failing. So I set up an exception for it in
make.conf, and then it compiled fine (with base gcc).

Sorry, I'm not really lucid at the moment (got two teeth extracted!),
 but that's a beginning.

Good luck :)

Re: [kde-freebsd] qt4 ignores custom compiler from /etc/make.conf

2011-10-24 Thread Alberto Villa

Ok, I wasn't lucid at all. I wrote that logic not to force Qt to build with
only one compiler (there's no single bit oriented onto this), but to make
Qt use the correct mkspec for the compiler in use (e.g., Qt configure
tests doesn't/didn't support a compiler named c++). If there's no
QMAKESPEC for the chosen compiler, the one for the compiler in base
(either GCC or Clang) is chosen. Thus, CC and CXX are never passed to
Qt configure system, they're just handled by bsd.qt.mk, which will then
choose its compiler.

To check this, compare the output of

$ make -V CONFIGURE_ARGS -C /usr/ports/devel/qt4-corelib

$ make -V CONFIGURE_ARGS -C /usr/ports/devel/qt4-corelib
CXX=clang++

$ make -V CONFIGURE_ARGS -C /usr/ports/devel/qt4-corelib
CXX=distcxx

What to do about this? Give me a couple of days to think about it...

[kde-freebsd] Problem wihit KDE 'printer config'

2011-10-24 Thread Carmel
Platform Version 4.7.2 (4.7.2)

When trying to use the printer configuration module from the system
settings menu, I receive this error message:

The service 'Printer Configuration' does not provide an interface
'KCModule' with keyword
'system-config-printer-kde/system-config-printer-kde.py' The factory
does not support creating component of the specified type.

Possible reasons:

An error occurred during your last kde upgrade leaving an orphaned
  control module.

You have old third party modules lying around.

So, how do I go about finding this orphaned control module / old third
party modules?
