Akonadi is the foundation of Kontact, it is where your PIM data (currently address only) are stored, you can not disable it. Akonadi uses Nepomuk for searching for contacts, you can not disable it either. You can disable Strigi indexing though. I'm Gentoo developer and one of those preparing KDE packages there.
Thomas, I suggest you stop spreading nonsense about things you clearly have no
clue about (which is Gentoo packages dependency tree and state of Gentoo
packages).
Below is dependency section for kmail in Gentoo packages:

- it's been overriden and disabled at build time (which is not the case here,

and we talked about it already as well)
Please reopen. I know it's always the easiest to shuffle real problems under
the carpet and do everything (like blaming direct downstream/upstream) but
fixing them.

Sorry, I apologize for that. I thought it must be an upstream modification, especially since USE flags were mentioned, and I couldn't reproduce it here. Please reopen.
