[Kernel-packages] [Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2017-10-01 Thread GPratique
@Daniel, please understand that this is not personal, and I know this is
not the right place for such a discussion, but where else ?

This problem is really annoying in 2017, 8 years after the bug was first
reported, in a world where bluetooth speakers are of everyday use.

I know this bug has been reported here but also under various Linux
subsystem. Googling it returns a massive amount of results each one
slightly different from the other, some with workaround, including from
the pulseaudio documentation (yes, I read it, tried, made things worse).

Basically this means that the root cause may not have been found yet.

Asking end users to report again and again the same bug in different
ways just makes it more difficult for the developers to understand and
ultimately correct.

I am fairly sure that 100 people declaring here to be affected by this
bug, means that a lot more are too. Maybe only 1 user out of 10 knows
how to report it. So the real amount is probably way higher.

@Daniel if you have any influence in this, please try to forward this
problem to whomever is able to fix it, it would be very much
appreciated.

Best regards,

2017-10-01 Thread mikewhatever
Don't know, I've not tied it, and the author had this to say:

A possible fix might look like the following (however, this is only my
testing hot-fix to make the driver work and I have to admit that I do
not fully understand the whole thing - that's why I am not posting a
patch at this point).

Hi,
Mine is a Lenovo Ideapad 320-15IKB, and I have the same issue. I tried the

Touchpad on Lenovo ideapad 320-14IKB does not work.

  [Test Case]
After adding the ID to the elan_i2c driver, the touchpad works.

  [Regression Potential]
  Very low.
It only adds device ID to the driver, no functional changes.

The touchpad is not working in any linux distribution, but works in

Kernel support for Corsair Strafe monochrome keyboard

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Related to bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/zesty/+source/linux/+bug/1678477

Support for Corsair Strafe RGB was added, but the Corsair Strafe
monochrome keyboard has a different device ID and isn't covered by the
  RGB fix.

  Quote from other user:
"I'm using a slightly different variant of this keyboard - Corsair Strafe
(without RGB; product ID is 1b15). I had more or less the same problem (error
-110). I tried your solution (USB_QUIRK_DELAY_INIT) and it seems to work every
time. I did a quick test - previously keyboard worked 5 out of 10 reboots, and
after applying this change it worked 10 out of 10 reboots (I also get this new
message during boot, like others did before - "couldn't find an input interrupt
endpoint").

As this keyboard has a different product ID (but the same vendor ID),
it will probably require additional entry in the
  drivers/usb/core/quirks.c

Please let me know if you need any additional info or tests from me."

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720622] [NEW] Cannot wake-up from sleep mode

2017-10-01 Thread Hadrien
Public bug reported:

Since Ubuntu 17.10 (development version) my computer can go to sleep
mode but it cannot wake up. It used to work fine with Ubuntu 17.04

If I try to wake up the computer (by using the power button, as I used
to do on 17.04), some devices wake up like the keyboard and the mouse,
but the monitor stays off.

Title:
  Cannot wake-up from sleep mode

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since Ubuntu 17.10 (development version) my computer can go to sleep
mode but it cannot wake up. It used to work fine with Ubuntu 17.04

I tried with both Gnome and Unity. The computer correctly goes to
sleep mode. I can hear the power management unit specific click when
  it's done.

If I try to wake up the computer (by using the power button, as I used
to do on 17.04), some devices wake up like the keyboard and the mouse,
  but the monitor stays off.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1697556] Re: Computer freezes after login - 4.10.0-22-generic

2017-10-01 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
To find the patch that fixes the issue, we need to bisect the kernel. Here's
the first one:
http://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/lp1697556/1/

Please check if this freeze or not.

Title:
Computer freezes after login - 4.10.0-22-generic

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have got a new Ubuntu 17.04 install on a Dell XPS 15 (Intel(R)
  Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz) that was installed a couple of days
  ago. Login worked fine too.

A couple of days later I installed the suggested kernel update
"4.10.0-22-generic". With kernel 4.10.0-22-generic, the computer
freezes right after login (i.e. after pressing enter, the background
image with the mouse is shown, no responses to any key strokes).

Note, this problem is observed with kernel 4.10.0-22-generic whereas it's not
observed with 4.10.0-21-generic. As I was not able to login to my computer I am
writing this bug report while it runs on kernel 4.10.0-21-generic. Therefore
the information attached through the "ubuntu-bug linux" command here, are
referring to the kernel that is actually working. I decided to nonetheless
include that information as it might contain other kernel unrelated information
that would help you troubleshooting.

  Please see attached file "syslog-4.10.0-22-generic-freeze-after-

Title:
Repeated keys stop after a few characters (^@ character spam every

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Long pressing a key will only repeat a few characters or won't repeat
at all in the default 17.10 GNOME environment, it affects all keys

It isn't application specific, the problem is always there whether be

Setting the repeat delay to 0 will instantly trigger it, however it
will still stop after a few characters.

  I freshly installed 17.10 on a Lenovo Ideapad 700, I haven't had the
problem in 16.04 with GNOME 3.22.

Edit: Happens in Xorg as well.

Title:
Repeated keys stop after a few characters (^@ character spam every
  second)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Long pressing a key will only repeat a few characters or won't repeat
at all in the default 17.10 GNOME environment, it affects all keys
  including backspace and arrows.

It isn't application specific, the problem is always there whether be
  it terminal or firefox.

Sure, I tested the "AT Translated Set 2 keyboard" device, and it works
as intended.

However the "PEAQ WMI hotkeys" seems to spam a key with a similar

Try v4.14-rc1. There's a new commit for peaq-wmi.

Does the machine have Dolby button?

Appears that kernel security tests need fixing after merging LSM
stacking patches as config options have changed.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720263] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffffffffffe1

2017-10-01 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I tried security=none, it didn't help. I also tried the ubuntu-gnome
17.04 live-usb, and it panicked on boot.

I ran memtest and found that one of my memory sticks was defective.
However, I still have some problems with only two sticks that did pass
memtest.

This is with the 4.13 ubuntu kernel:

Title:
Bluetooth audio instability: Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown
  connection handle

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
(I'm creating a new bug as instructed at
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/898347/comments/29)

I havea Nokia BH-216 bluetooth headset. Generally it works well, but
randomly (after 5-15 minutes of use) it gets disconnected.

The kernel log output looks like this:

[ 3272.270382] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270383] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270384] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270384] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 48
[ 3272.270385] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0
[ 3272.270386] Bluetooth: hci0 SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0

With quick googling this seems to be happening to other people with
other hardware and distributions so i suppose this is a BT audio bug
in kernel. Bug #898347 is related.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1716258] Re: Keyboard input temporarily ignored when typing root encryption password

2017-10-01 Thread Douglas H. Silva
Tested kernel 4.13 in Arch Linux. Cannot reproduce the bug with it.
Fedora is in 4.12.14-300.fc26 and is still reproducible there.

Title:
Keyboard input temporarily ignored when typing root encryption
  password

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Symptoms:

The computer begins its boot process, then the root decryption
password prompt appears (via Plymouth) and I start typing. The first
letters are caught, but some letters are not captured. It's as if the
keyboard shut down during a few seconds and then returned, and I could
  type the whole password properly.

  Things I tried:

  - Typing the password blindly (just inputting the entire password and hitting
Enter without worrying about missing characters) but it rejected the password
as incorrect.
  - Typing decryption password without Plymouth (this is not a Plymouth bug).

This affects Debian 9 (didn't affect Debian 8), Fedora, Arch Linux and
possibly others. It cannot be reproduced with Ubuntu or other distributions
with old packages. Some component introduced this problem recently.

card), with kernel 4.14.0-0.rc2.git4.1.fc28.x86_64, repeatedly starting
atom and chrome is the easiest way to trigger it.

I also tried security=none and disabling hyperthreading (even though I
should have the microcode fix for the Skylake/Kaby Lake HT bug) on
Ubuntu's 4.13 kernel, it didn't help.

Here's the Fedora log:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720684] [NEW] Bluetooth speaker used the HSP/HFP profile by default rather than the higher-quality A2DP profile

2017-10-01 Thread Nate Graham
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 17.04
Bluetooth device:
https://smile.amazon.com/VicTsing-Wireless-Waterproof-Hands-Free-Speakerphone/dp/B074DX13T1
 (itentifies itself as "C6")

The above Bluetooth speaker paired and started streaming audio perfectly
in Kubuntu 17.04. But the audio quality was poor, because the default
audio profile was the low-quality HSP/HFP one. When I switched it to the
A2DP profile, it sounded perfect again.

Can we make A2DP the default playback profile for Bluetooth audio
devices?

** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1720263] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffffffffffffe1

2017-10-01 Thread Nikola Kovacs
Turns out I did not have the latest bios despite what Asus's wonderful
Windows autoupdate utility claimed. I manually downloaded and installed
the latest bios, which contains an Intel microcode update, and I haven't
had a single crash since.

I even had the intel-microcode package installed, but it looks like the
bios has a newer microcode.

Thanks for your help and sorry for the false alarm.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1700657] Re: Touchpad not detected in Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB

2017-10-01 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification:
+ [Impact]
+ Touchpad on Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB does not work.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Touchpad doesn't work on the system.
+ With the patch, touchpad works.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal. The it adds a device ID to intel-lpss-pci, so it's limited to
+ one device.
+
+ ---
+
Touchpad is not automatically detected in 14.04, 16.04 or 17.04. I tried
in live mode and after full installation. I was able to connect an
external mouse and a bluetooth mouse and both worked. I checked my
  xinput list and no sign:
