Title:
Internal microsd card reader does not work in Ubuntu 17.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu 17.10 x86_64 of Wayland-Session is running on a HP Envy
13-ad1xx notbook with a internal microsd card reader. The system gives
no response when inserting different micro sd cards, which work fine
on Windows 10. I report this bug in hope that the upstream may notice
and make some change on the suited driver or kernel module. I would
provide more information under further direction.

According to `lspci` output, the model name is 'Alcor Micro Device
  6625'.

`udevadm monitor --env` gives no related events when inserting or
pulling out the microsd card, in which only thermal_zone changes are
recorded. No related events are recoded in /var/log/kern.log either.

With sd card being inserted, `sudo fdisk -l` and `sudo blkid` gives no
related information. The outputs are all about partitions on the local
disk. No sdhc or mmc device is found in /dev/ either.

The only implication now is the system notice the existence of the
card reader, in terms of `lspci` outputs, the '01:00.0 Unassigned
class [ff00]: Alcor Micro Device 6625', even when a sd card is
  inserted:

response when inserting different micro sd cards, which work fine on
Windows 10. I report this bug in hope that the upstream may notice and
make some change on the suited driver or kernel module. I would provide
more information under further direction.

The only implication now is the system notice the existence of the card
reader, in terms of `lspci` outputs, the '01:00.0 Unassigned class
[ff00]: Alcor Micro Device 6625', even when a sd card is inserted:

Title:
Nautilus unable to see the storage in my Fuji HS30EXR PTP canera since
upgrading from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  What happens:
Something appears to have changed in Nautilus after Nautilus version
1:3.20.4-0ubuntu2 (as in Ubuntu 17.04) and by version 1:3.26.0.0ubuntu1 (as in
Ubuntu 17.10)*, causing the storage on my USB PTP camera (a Fujifilm HS30EXR)
not to be visible to Nautilus when the camera is connected to the computer via
USB and switched on. (Camera firmware was updated and the camera retested on
two Ubuntu 17.10 computers)

  What is expected to happen:
On my remaining Ubuntu 17.04 computer (and earlier versions) the camera
always pops up in the Nautilus left-hand sidebar when the camera is connected
via USB and switched on.

  To reproduce the bug:
  1. Launch "Files" from the Dock
  2. Connect a Fujifilm HS30EXR camera (WITH an SD card installed) via USB
  3. Observe if camera can be browsed in Nautilus.

  What is still working:
Three other cameras were tested and found not to have this problem with
Nautilus: Acorn Ltl5310A (with SD card storage), Nikon P340 (SD card) and
Olympus C8080WZ (xD and CF cards).

  More detail:
  Apport information report attached.

Problem occurs when logged in to either Gnome or Unity Desktop in
  Ubuntu 17.10.

On a prompt from an askubuntu.com user I also tested the Fuji camera
on a Ubuntu 17.10 live USB (64 bit ISO downloaded 2 Nov 2017) and

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1521173] Re: AER: Corrected error received: id=00e0

2017-11-04 Thread Marcos Alano
This message just occurs to me when I set the "Fastboot" option on BIOS
to "Minimal" instead of "Through". I think the Linux isn't ready yet for
Fastboot feature.

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 on a i7 Skylake and using the "pci=noaer"tip the
message goes away. Now I need to find out what this option means to see
if I'm losing something.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1602888] Re: Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

2017-11-04 Thread Bryce Frank
After some more experimentation it is clear that I cannot reach C7 power
states when plugged in (the lowest I reach is C3), even with tunables
set to good. I tried the acpi_osi="!Windows 2015" boot parameter with no
luck.

Title:
Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop there appears to
be an issue with the fan control. When I first boot up the machine the
fans are off. However, after the laptop warms up under normal usage,
the fans kick on and then never shut off again. Even when the CPU
cools down to below 35c, the fans will continue to run.

If I suspend the the laptop, and then immediately wake it up again
then fans are once again off, until it warms up again. So
essentially, once the fans start they don't seem to ever shut off.

Fans seem to work normally under Windows 10. They turn on as needed,
and then turn off once the laptop cools down.

I've tried the various BIOS updates that Dell has released, without
success. I am currently running Dell's latest BIOS for this laptop
  (v1.1.8)

Below is the output of lm-sensors showing the fans running when the
CPU is at a cool 35c

Title:
kernel 4.10 fails to boot on AMD E-350D APU

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS on an AMD e-350D (GA-E350N-WIN8 motherboard).
This has always worked fine until the kernel was upgraded to 4.10 as part of
the regular system upgrades. Since then the machine wont boot, there are no
errors, the screen just stays blank. If I boot using a previous kernel (such as
4.8.0-58-generic) then it all works fine.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1730069] Re: kernel 4.10 fails to boot on AMD E-350D APU

2017-11-04 Thread Patrick Mackinlay
I have run the apport-collect command, obviously this was not executed
when running any of the kernels that have this issue, it was running
with a working kernel, 4.8.0-58-generic.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

Title:
kernel 4.10 fails to boot on AMD E-350D APU

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS on an AMD e-350D (GA-E350N-WIN8 motherboard).
This has always worked fine until the kernel was upgraded to 4.10 as part of
the regular system upgrades. Since then the machine wont boot, there are no
errors, the screen just stays blank. If I boot using a previous kernel (such as
4.8.0-58-generic) then it all works fine.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1073089] Re: ubuntu kernel does not support gadgetfs

2017-11-04 Thread Alistair Buxton
Still broken in 16.04. gadgetfs has been replaced by functionfs, which
is also available in the standard kernel packages, but still does not
work because it too relies on dummy_hcd on x86 platforms.

Title:

  Triaged

Bug description:
The Ubuntu kernel does not appear to support gadgetfs:

This seems to have been resolved in Igloo (see bug 923674) so is presumably a
case of a cherry-pick?

Shutdown hangs / no standby - possible Wifi-bug in the kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The Shutdown-process hangs. After about two minutes the following
  message is displayed:

  Oct 17 18:47:06 Kahlan kernel: [ 363.170593] "echo 0 >
/proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.

Two Minutes later this message is displayed:

  Oct 17 18:49:07 Kahlan kernel: [ 484.008662] "echo 0 >
/proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.

This message repeates itself. If I am lucky, my laptop shuts down
  after some time.

Also standby does not work. I think my wifi-adapter causes this
  problem.

With Ubuntu 17.04 or Suse 42.3 I cannot reproduce this problem. I
found a bug report in the Arch Bug System
  (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55872

In my laptop I have also a Qualcomm Atheros Adapter. Perhaps the
  linuxkernel has a bug?

I am running ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS on an AMD e-350D (GA-E350N-WIN8

the machine wont boot, there are no errors, the screen just stays

  SRU Justification:
  [Impact]
Touchpad on Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB does not work.

  [Test Case]
Touchpad doesn't work on the system.
  With the patch, touchpad works.

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal. The it adds a device ID to intel-lpss-pci, so it's limited to
  one device.

Touchpad is not automatically detected in 14.04, 16.04 or 17.04. I
tried in live mode and after full installation. I was able to connect
an external mouse and a bluetooth mouse and both worked. I checked my
  xinput list and no sign:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1633172] Re: Linux 4.8 as in 16.10 hangs during boot

2017-11-04 Thread dino99
That report is against the 4.8 kernel, which is not a supported kernel
since a while. Since your system(s) has been upgraded many times, and it
should be good to report about right actual config, instead of adding
comment on that one.

So closing that report.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1709708] Re: [Intel Broxton HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio detects output but produces no sound on an HDMI TV until power cycled.

Title:
[Intel Broxton HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio detects output but
produces no sound on an HDMI TV until power cycled.

Status in DRI:
  Fix Released
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Upon bootup, the HDMI output connected to a Samsung TV shows up as an
output. If this output is selected and a sound test run (either using
the GUI or using aplay /user/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav) no
sound is heard. Pavumeter does however show sound coming through.

I found that sound can be fixed by allowing the display to sleep,
waking it up, and then restarting pulseaudio (pulseaudio -k). After
that sound output through HDMI to the TV will work until rebooted.

The fix can be succesfully scripted as follows:

  xset dpms force off
  sleep 1
  pulseaudio -k

The machine is an Intel NUC6CAYH, connected to a not particularly new
Samsung 42" TV using an HDMI cable, running a fresh install of Ubuntu
  16.04.

In earlier attempts at fixing the issue I set pulseaudio to never let
the sound device sleep (commented out load-module module-suspend-on-
idle in /etc/pulse/default.pa), and also set the default sampling rate
  to 48000 (default-sample-rate = 48000 in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf). Not
sure if these settings contributed to the fix, but they are not
  sufficient on their own.

Title:
Xubuntu suspend fails - shuts down instead

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Suspending my machine (Xubuntu Whisker menu/Log out/Suspend) causes it
to shut down instead (or at the very least, to restart when powering
  on again).

Observed: after clicking on 'Suspend', the screen blanks, 10 seconds
pass, then the machine powers down. When I power up again, it returns
to the BIOS post screen, then Xubuntu boot splash screen, then login.

  Notes:

  * machine is a recent build, previously running 17.04. Had the same
issue (and suspend error messages in syslog), so this does not appear
to be related to the 17.10 upgrade.

  * given the "wpasupplicant failed with error code 254" line in syslog,
  and following comments in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=835648, I tried removing wpasupplicant from
/lib/systemd/system-suspend. This resulted in the machine suspending
sooner (no time-out), but suspend still failed.

  * Separately, I tried switching to the nouveau driver (I'd seem some
mentions of problematic proprietary nvidia drivers). This too made no
  difference.

Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1728417] Re: Xubuntu suspend fails - shuts down instead

2017-11-04 Thread Colin Pretorius
None of the steps in Ch4 of the document describe my problem. The
closest is "4.4 System reboots during suspend/resume", but that
section's description is "Screen goes dark, and a fresh boot starts
without users doing anything" does not describe what happens to me.

What I observe is:
1. I choose to suspend (via Xfce menu, or rtcwake)
2. machine powers down. Suspend _appears_ successful (final line per syslog is
"systemd-sleep[2160]: Suspending system..."
3. the machine does _not_ automatically reboot. It stays suspended until I
power on (or rtcwake alarm).
3. when starting up again, the machine boots instead of resuming. I see the
BIOS post screen, then kernel start-up output, then a login prompt. It is clear
that the machine has not resumed, since all open processes have closed and
syslog and dmesg show that the machine has booted.

I have thus far done the following:

1. added 'initcall_debug ignore_loglevel pm_async' to my grub config
(confirmed by subsequent syslog output).

2. tested suspend/resume using Xubuntu whisker menu and then later
pressing power button to resume. The problem persists.

See attached syslog-201711040722.txt for syslog output. Final suspend and then
startup lines are:
--
Nov 4 07:21:27 maude systemd-sleep[2160]: Selected interface 'p2p-dev-wlp37s0'
Nov 4 07:21:27 maude systemd-sleep[2160]: 'SUSPEND' command timed out.
Nov 4 07:21:27 maude systemd-sleep[2165]:
/lib/systemd/system-sleep/wpasupplicant failed with error code 254.
Nov 4 07:21:27 maude systemd-sleep[2160]: Suspending system...
Nov 4 07:22:06 maude rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="8.16.0"
x-pid="926" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com";] start
Nov 4 07:22:06 maude rsyslogd: rsyslogd's groupid changed to 108
Nov 4 07:22:06 maude rsyslogd: rsyslogd's userid changed to 104
--
I see numerous syscalls returning with non-0 values but I cannot tell if any
are pertinent.

3. I tested with rtcwake -m mem -s 20.
- after 20s the machine powered up again, but booted instead of resuming. (ie.
the problem persists).
- there is no 'suspend' output to syslog prior to suspending. I have attached
dmesg.20171104-0757.txt

4. I downloaded and tested with analyse_suspend.py, running
./analyze_suspend.py -rtcwake 20 -f -m mem.
- after the 20s system boots instead of resuming (as above)
- the script had created a directory suspend-171104-080126, but since it boots
instead of resuming, none of the files are written to that directory - it is
empty.
- I have attached dmesg.20171104-0801.txt.

I'm happy to try other steps or provide other info, but don't have
cables to try console debugging.
