Update, logout and login again resolves the issue!!! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1684240 Title: Lagging square around mouse pointer Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-384 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in plasma-workspace package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: (This can also be an nvidia related problem) Mouse pointer behaves as if it has an invisible square attached to it. This square covers some area next to the pointer, but it is not always clear exactly where (a link to a screenshot is shown below, please note the white square with some text from the previous webpage displayed in that window). This makes selecting text difficult, as one never knows where exactly the selection ends. Also, scrolling in some windows becomes problematic, as the pointer shadows a part of the scrollbar. When a text is being typed, one needs to make sure that the pointer is parked sufficiently far from the text (so, to make a long story short, this is very annoying). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1684240] Re: Lagging square around mouse pointer
Have the same issue. My system: Ubuntu 16.04.5, latest updates. Unity desktop. Nvidia 384.130 driver. DisplayLink 4.2, tried also with 4.1, the same issue. I also uploaded 12 seconds video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVwa- cVU_cA Can't confirm if this is Nvidia or DisplayLink or both drivers issue. For sure, in my case, uninstalling DisplayLink driver everything works fine. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)
Hello, is there a release which has the fix committed? Because I wanted to try the patched kernel with non-free nvidia drivers (390) are they compatible?. When installing it with dpkg, the machine says that the kernel-image gives conflict with the present one (last 18.04 kernel). I apologize for my newbie knowledge. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774950 Title: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in linux source package in Bionic: Confirmed Status in linux source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Bug description: ===SRU Justification=== [Impact] Systems with acpi-lpss can't do S3/S4 on Bionic. [Test] Users confirmed these patches work for them. [Fix] Commit a192aa923b66a (ACPI / LPSS: Consolidate runtime PM and system sleep handling) applies quirks for both runtime and system suspend. This causes problems for some systems, so avoid using quirks on S3 and S4. [Regression Potential] Low. These patches are in upstream stable, and it brings back driver's old behavior. ===Original Bug Report=== I have installed Kubuntu 18.04 on 3 different machines (my friend's and my own) with no suspend problems but my HP Pavilion 11 x360 does not suspend. It suspends fine with Ubuntu 17.10, Kubuntu 17.10, Devuan Jesse, Devuan ASCII and Windows 10 but fails with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04. I have also tried suspend using a live USB of 18.04 on this machine and it fails in the same way, so does not appear to be caused by any additional programs that I had installed. By installing an older kernel (4.14) on Kubuntu 18.04 the suspend function works as expected. Running Kubuntu 18.04 with kernels 4.15, 4.16, 4.17 results in the suspend failure that freezes the machine and requires a hard reset. Correct behaviour is - Screen goes blank, fan goes off, power LED flashes to show machine is in suspend. Pressing power button triggers 'resume' function. What happens - Screen goes blank, fan stays on, power LED stays on. Machine stays in this state and does not respond to any keyboard interaction, mouse movement or power button presses. Ctrl + Alt + f1 (or f2, f3, f4 etc) does not get any response. The only way to use the machine is to shut down by holding down the power button. Checking the logs suggests that the machine believes it is in suspend mode sleep [deep] when it isn't. Having to hard reset to get any response means that the kernel logs say no more than sleep [deep] pm-suspend also results in the same problems with kernels 4.15 and 4.16, but works fine with 4.14. It is curious that a machine that suspends fine on an earlier 4.14 kernel no longer works with 4.15 and above, whilst 3 other machines (including one with pretty similar hardware) do not exhibit this problem. There are only a handful of questions about it on the forums but at least 3 other people have the same problem: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029405/ubuntu-18-04-crashes-on- resuming-from-suspend https://askubuntu.com/questions/1041369/after-upgrading- from-17-10-ubuntu-18-04-wont-sleep-suspend I am attempting to round up anyone else with the same issue and point them to this bug report. I can't replicate it since the report. I have no idea why, maybe the Ubuntu releases patched it. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1786625] Re: "find" command throws nonsense error message
It's funny that when creating the bug report there was a choice for the package to report against: - linux - I don't know. I chose "I don't know", but it has been assigned to linux allthesame. Brilliant. ** Also affects: findutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786625 Title: "find" command throws nonsense error message Status in findutils package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Steps to reproduce: 1. Run this command from a terminal: $ find . -name *.txt Expected result: It should list all the files found in the current directory or any descendant directory whose name ends in ".txt". It may or may not find matching files, depending on whether there are or there aren't. If there's something wrong in my command, then it should ALWAYS consistently issue a sensible error message explaining what's wrong with my command, and that should happen regardless of the contents of the current directory. Observed results: If there are no .txt files to be found, it behaves as expected (i.e., no results, no error message). If there are files ending in .txt, sometimes it behaves as expected, showing the results. If, however, there are files ending in ".txt" with dashes ("-") or spaces (" ") in the filename, AND there is more than one file that matches the criteria, then it displays this completely nonsensical error message: find: paths must precede expression: .txt Usage: find [-H] [-L] [-P] [-Olevel] [-D help|tree|search|stat|rates|opt|exec|time] [path...] [expression] where "X.txt" is an actual filename of a matching file. For example, this will reproduce the issue: $ echo "lalala" > aaa.txt $ echo "lololo" > foo-bar.txt $ find . -name *.txt find: paths must precede expression: foo-bar.txt Usage: find [-H] [-L] [-P] [-Olevel] [-D help|tree|search|stat|rates|opt|exec|time] [path...] [expression] ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-131-generic 4.4.0-131.157 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-131.157-generic 4.4.134 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-131-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.18 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: teo2898 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Aug 11 17:30:54 2018 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=ff7e702a-a05a-47fd-8c14-551e81f9e9e3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-11 (1764 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130424) MachineType: Acer Aspire V3-571G ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-131-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=5830b30e-69e8-4bb4-8a2b-bc2b43c7414a ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-4.4.0-131-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-4.4.0-131-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.157.20 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 10/15/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: Acer dmi.bios.version: V2.07 dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: VA50_HC_CR dmi.board.vendor: Acer dmi.board.version: Type2 - Board Version dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Acer dmi.chassis.version: V2.07 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAcer:bvrV2.07:bd10/15/2012:svnAcer:pnAspireV3-571G:pvrV2.07:rvnAcer:rnVA50_HC_CR:rvrType2-BoardVersion:cvnAcer:ct10:cvrV2.07: dmi.product.name: Aspire V3-571G dmi.product.version: V2.07 dmi.sys.vendor: Acer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/findutils/+bug/1786625/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

-name *.txt find: paths must precede expression: foo-bar.txt Usage: find [-H] [-L] [-P] [-Olevel] [-D help|tree|search|stat|rates|opt|exec|time] [path...] [expression] ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: linux-image-4.4.0-131-generic 4.4.0-131.157 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-131.157-generic 4.4.134 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-131-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.18 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: teo2898 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Aug 11 17:30:54 2018 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=ff7e702a-a05a-47fd-8c14-551e81f9e9e3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-11 (1764 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130424) MachineType: Acer Aspire V3-571G ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-131-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=5830b30e-69e8-4bb4-8a2b-bc2b43c7414a ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-4.4.0-131-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-4.4.0-131-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.157.20 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 10/15/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: Acer dmi.bios.version: V2.07 dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: VA50_HC_CR dmi.board.vendor: Acer dmi.board.version: Type2 - Board Version dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Acer dmi.chassis.version: V2.07 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAcer:bvrV2.07:bd10/15/2012:svnAcer:pnAspireV3-571G:pvrV2.07:rvnAcer:rnVA50_HC_CR:rvrType2-BoardVersion:cvnAcer:ct10:cvrV2.07: dmi.product.name: Aspire V3-571G dmi.product.version: V2.07 dmi.sys.vendor: Acer ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786625 Title: "find" command throws nonsense error message Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Steps to reproduce: 1. Thanks for preparing this kernel; I am downloading it now. What are the expected hashes of the files, so that I can verify the insecure downloads? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1780806] Re: Kernel 4.15.0 fails to boot with linux-modules-extra
The same issue with notebook Sony Vaio SVS151190X. It works with kernel 4.13 and doesn't work with kernel 4.15 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780806 Title: Kernel 4.15.0 fails to boot with linux-modules-extra Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in linux source package in Bionic: Incomplete Bug description: I upgraded my laptop (Sony VAIO SVS1511C5E, Intel Core i7-3612QM, NVIDIA GK107M / GeForce GT 640M LE, original hard disk changed to a Crucial SSD) yesterday from Ubuntu 17.10. to Ubuntu 18.04. The upgrade process went smoothly without issues. After upgrade, I cannot boot the new kernel version 4.15.0-23 in normal mode. The boot process hangs immediately after displaying "Loading initial ramdisk". In case I choose "Recovery mode", the system does boot successfully with the same kernel. I also tried installing kernels 4.15.0-22 and 4.15.0-24, which both behave identically. The problem seems to be related to the linux-modules-extra package. If the package is not installed, the system boots also in the normal mode. However, the display is not correctly recognized, it shows up as "Unknown display" with 1024x768 resolution. That also happens if I choose "Recovery mode" and "Resume boot". The previous kernel 4.13.0-46 (with linux-modules-extra installed) works without problems and the display is recognized correctly. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: arto 2916 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 EcryptfsInUse: Yes HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=2ef70a11-4a51-4152-a156-14c706505b71 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-18 (263 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Alpha amd64 (20170926) MachineType: Sony Corporation SVS1511C5E Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 EFI VGA ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-23-generic root=UUID=791d0e17-7a4d-47c8-8f69-708bebb1e658 ro recovery nomodeset ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-4.15.0-23-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-4.15.0-23-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.173.1 Tags: bionic Uname: Linux 4.15.0-23-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-07-08 (0 days ago) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare scanner sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 05/17/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde Corp. dmi.bios.version: R0142C5 dmi.board.asset.tag: N/A dmi.board.name: VAIO dmi.board.vendor: Sony Corporation dmi.board.version: N/A dmi.chassis.asset.tag: N/A dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Sony Corporation dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsydeCorp.:bvrR0142C5:bd05/17/2012:svnSonyCorporation:pnSVS1511C5E:pvrC60AVZAU:rvnSonyCorporation:rnVAIO:rvrN/A:cvnSonyCorporation:ct10:cvrN/A: dmi.product.family: VAIO dmi.product.name: SVS1511C5E dmi.product.version: C60AVZAU dmi.sys.vendor: Sony Corporation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1780806/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1753510] Re: Cannot boot/install AMD Ryzen 2400G
if it is of interest, I could buy a USB debugging cable and give you access... saw this: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.17/driver-api/usb/usb3-debug-port.html but I would have to order the cable. Recommendations welcome. Do you think it is possible to have the other computer be a raspberry pi (which is only USB-2)? If so, it would be easy to just connect and leave it that way for hours. If both ends need to be usb-3, then I need a second USB-3 host and it's a bit more cumbersome. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785319] Re: All kinds of problems on wake from lid close 18.04
Tom, in order to allow additional upstream mainline kernel developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest mainline kernel? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is in a folder at the very top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the mainline kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is not reproducible in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the Bug Description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the issue is reproducible with the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. In addition, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available. Lastly, it is most helpful that after testing of the latest mainline kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.10.1 regression-release ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785319 Title: All kinds of problems on wake from lid close 18.04 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This seems to be multiple packages, Ubuntu 18.04 itself (because 17.10 and all previous versions worked fine), and firmware. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)
Hello, my Ubuntu Linux was 8-9 months out of order v. 17.10, and later 18.04. I did many installations and tests, changed SSD M.2 four times (recognized reclamation), changed the whole NUC7i7BNH (recognized reclamation). Log Issue on Intel. Finally I installed Fedora 28. and NVME M.2 SSD is in good condition and work properly. I used default LVM partition format. Ubuntu during installation on VLN filed immediatelly during installation, when updates were applied. The problem is bounded specially with Ubuntu. I doesn't check, which driver use Fedora and Ubuntu, Fedora kernel is '4.17.12-200.fc28.x86_64 #1 x86_64 GNU/Linux', so I cannot distill if it should be in driver or is system settings. But finally, i can say, that my reclamations were unauthorized. Sadly, in that case, the easiest workaround for me is to use different Linux. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746340 Title: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 4.13.0-21.24-generic 4.13.13 I have a Razer Blade Stealth 2016. After that, I installed 16.04 and used it for MONTHS without any problems, until it produced the same error this week. The majority of time it boots back to the Ubuntu working good, but some times it boots to a broken ubuntu (no images, lots of things broken). I have to reinstall ubuntu then. Every time I reinstall my Ubuntu, I have to try lots of times until it installs without an Input/Output error. When it installs, I can use it for some hours without having the problem, but if I run the software updates, it ALWAYS crashes and enters in read-only mode, specifically in the part that is installing kernel updates. I noticed that Ubuntu installs updates automatically when they're for security reasons. Could this be the reason my Ubuntu worked for months without the problem, but then an update was applied and it broke? I thought that this bug was happening: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1678184 and tried different nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us= combinations, all them gave errors. I just changed to 0 and I had no error while using ubuntu (however I didn't test for a long time) but I still had the error after trying to update my ubuntu. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1776563] Re: Acer Aspire A315 IOAPIC failure on Ubuntu 18.04, kernel hangs, can't load, kernel freeze (AMD Ryzen 5/Radeon/Raven) / AMDGPU Hybrid crash
It uses latest amdgpu branch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776563 Title: Acer Aspire A315 IOAPIC failure on Ubuntu 18.04, kernel hangs, can't load, kernel freeze (AMD Ryzen 5/Radeon/Raven) / AMDGPU Hybrid crash Status in amd: New Status in Linux: Incomplete Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: CPU: Ryzen 5 2500U VGA: Radeon 535 Notebook: Acer Aspire A315 This is a brand new notebook on the market with Ryzen 5/Radeon. The default kernel of Ubuntu(18.04) hangs at loading with message: tsc: Refined TSC clocksource calibration: 1996.250 MHz clocksource: tsc: mask: 0x max_cycles: (...), max_idle_ns: (...) Soft lockup Using pci=noacpi kernel parameter kernel loads without any problem but my notebook produces more heat than on Win10. If I know right Acer notebooks need ACPI to the correct power management. The same thing happens on mainline 4.17,4.18rc1-2. BIOS upgrade to the latest version: 1.08 hasn't helped This problem has been reported upstream: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200087 The latest correctly working kernel was 4.13.* but the heat problem was present with this too. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1753510] Re: Cannot boot/install AMD Ryzen 2400G
Ok, please try this kernel: https://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/linux-image-4.18.0-rc1+_4.18.0-rc1+-1_amd64.deb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753510 Title: Cannot boot/install AMD Ryzen 2400G Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Did a motherboard swap on a trusty old computer that ran ubuntu for 10 years or so. Now it only runs windows (same hardware fresh installs windows with no issue). brand new ryzen 2nd gen with graphics. I know about graphics drivers issues, wasn't expecting that to be dealt with. Just trying to use it as a cpu. So I put in an older (RADEON HD 7850 pitcairn) video card to get some functionality. Without the video card, it boots, but the display is unusable. I can ssh in and see that it works fine as a server, but cannot use terminal or graphical display. With the video card, Put daily ubuntu Bionic image, and "Try Ubuntu", and it goes into an infinite loop. photo attached. I tried 16.04.4 and I think it just went into a blank screen.
