[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1786729] [NEW] execveat03 in ubuntu_ltp_syscalls failed on Xenial AWS
Public bug reported: This is a POTENTIAL REGRESSION. PASSED with 4.4.0-1063-aws FAILED with 4.4.0-1064-aws in proposed This is a new test case added 4 days ago. >From the commit message it looks like this is a test case for commit >8db6c34f1dbc: The regression is introduced from 8db6c34f1dbc ("Introduce v3 namespaced file capabilities"). Overlayfs and possibly other networking filesystems unhash the dentry on unlink, fail on this test with above change. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1776325] Re: Error messages during boot - Ubuntu 18.04 & Mint19
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776325 Title: Error messages during boot - Ubuntu 18.04 & Mint19 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: This came about as I had problems with efi while installing a dual boot of ubuntu and linux mint. As I understand it, during the boot process, the kernel sees a cpu count for the processor chip , AMD Ryzen 2400G, as 8 but 4 of them are graphics compute units. A little later in the process, the graphics processors cause errors. Subsequent to discovering this , I have added a line to grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_ which appears to have improved the boot process. It is 'ruc_nocbs=0-3'. The alteration in grub seems to help limit the cpu count and gets the boot process over the bump. I searched the interweb for clues and this seems to be a successful experiment. I am reporting this because I could not find any pertinent reference to this sort of problem with this particular chip. This search was not exhaustive so I hope I am not wasting your time :) I am attaching a file of concatenated system info for kernel reports as the options on this page only appear to allow one file to be selected (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+filebug/4aca6a90-6dc0-11e8 -b34a-002481e7f48a. Most of this was my lack of understanding the efi requirements, but the lack of useful information in the Gigabyte motherboard manual about how the UEFI operation was managed by its operating system prolonged my agony.:) I hope this helps, thank you and keep up the fantastic work Bob. Running games often leads to screen freeze (hard reboot necessary). On the other hand proprietary drivers do not work properly: 1) with nvidia-driver-390 the system locks before showing gdm login (bad chars shown) with last kernel; 2) with nvidia-driver-390 the screen is forced to 680x480 res using kernel linux-image-4.15.0-23-generic; also LAN/internet does not work; 3) with nvidia-340 the monitor switches off during boot and the boot does not continue; Also tried to activate the nvidia ppa (ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa) to try the legacy driver (304), but I can't since it breaks several other packages. Googling around my guess either is for bugs in kernels from 4.15.0-23 or for signed modules not working without efi. Thanks for your support! [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)
Hi hariprasad. If possible, you could try our patched kernel which disables ASPM: https://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/pm961-disable- aspm/. It worked for me but only when I added the nvme- core.default_ps_max_latency_us=1500 kernel parameter. Maybe you can try some day. We're still investigating the issue. whl2: 1) The latest mainline kernel is now 4.18 (not 4.18-rc). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1777238] Re: video lag
Thanks Boris! The video was taken in 2012, but I experience these kind of problems since the upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04. I had 10.04, 12.04 and 16.04 before without these issues. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1776563] Re: Acer Aspire A315 IOAPIC failure on Ubuntu 18.04, kernel hangs, can't load, kernel freeze (AMD Ryzen 5/Radeon/Raven) / AMDGPU Hybrid crash
I'm glad you did it. Why does the kernel not find the correct addres like lspci? This is a good question. Maybe the kernel doesn't know what to search. I have a somewhat fixed (not perfectly) DSDT/SSDT for A315-41G (Ryzen 5 + Radeon vega 8/Radeon 535) which provides a better cpu power management(CPU temperature can decrease under 50C) like using the kernel parameter only. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
This bug should be closed as "FIXED" in my humble opinion. "NEW" is grossly inaccurate. My workstation uptime is now 109 days, continuous operation without suspend, mainly idle, mixed with episodes of heavy load on all cores and everything in between. The technical term for this is "spectacularly stable". Credit belongs to all involved, including AMD, kernel devs, motherboard maker, Debian maintainers, and many other groups who made this possible. Again in my humble opinion, the only issue remaining is AMD's failure to explain what went wrong and exactly how they worked around it. That is a separate bug, this one is done. I suspect that Windows users did get this bug, but they didn't notice it because, well use your imagination. Then it was quietly fixed in a Windows update supplied by AMD that went out around the same time as the Typical Power bios updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, We aregetting various kernel crash on a pretty new config. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1776563] Re: Acer Aspire A315 IOAPIC failure on Ubuntu 18.04, kernel hangs, can't load, kernel freeze (AMD Ryzen 5/Radeon/Raven) / AMDGPU Hybrid crash
you (bountou), this is exactly the same problem what I have. Maybe there is a little difference but not much. We will be able to fix it with a little work. So this is an ACPI problem. ACPI(Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is a hardware interface what is afforded by the manufacturer for the Operating System to use the notebook's power management features correctly. There are tables in the ROM memory of your notebook that contain a lot of information for this. For some reason these are broken in Linux. This is what you see on the attached kernel output screenshot. This is not a perfect situation. Things you can do: a)Install Windows. Generally the tables can be understood correctly by Windows. If not then the manufacturer provides drivers which fix them. b)Disable ACPI: in this case the OS try to guess the correct behavior but it will never be perfect. This is why noacpi is not the correct solution. (temperature anomalies will occur) c)Do manual address (Correct solution Lite version) to IOMMU and SMBUS controller. This can be done by the kernel parameters what I wrote: ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 for example. This is good for my notebook type but the values can be different by notebook subtypes. I need the lspci -vv output after you had enabled IOMMU to give you the correct addresses. I can see your SMBUS is on 00:14.0 but I don't find the IOMMU which is necessary. This is a half-correct way. -The best solution: recompile the DSDT/SSDT tables. This is the hardcore version because you should dump, decompile fix and recompile the proper tables. This is not easy but this can offer a similar energy management what you can experience on WIN 10. So first thing to do: Enable IOMMU, start the kernel with noacpi and copy the lspci -vv output for me. IOMMU should be shown there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776563 Title: Acer Aspire A315 IOAPIC failure on Ubuntu 18.04, kernel hangs, can't load, kernel freeze (AMD Ryzen 5/Radeon/Raven) / AMDGPU Hybrid crash Status in amd: New Status in Linux: Incomplete Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: CPU: Ryzen 5 2500U VGA: Radeon 535 Notebook: Acer Aspire A315 This is a brand new notebook on the market with Ryzen 5/Radeon. What output do you get when opening the Totem player from a terminal window? The builtin compositor can be disabled via xfwm4-tweaks-settings, and that will most likely prevent the issue from occurring. The only way to stop fans is to power off the laptop, power on (fans go 100% at this point again), power off during BIOS splash screen and power on again. @yeboster - it's possible that you might not need the patched kernel to get suspend to work. Please see here for troubleshooting and to discuss further: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2395562 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774950 Title: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in linux source package in Bionic: Confirmed Status in linux source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Bug description: ===SRU Justification=== [Impact] Systems with acpi-lpss can't do S3/S4 on Bionic. [Test] Users confirmed these patches work for them. [Fix] Commit a192aa923b66a (ACPI / LPSS: Consolidate runtime PM and system sleep handling) applies quirks for both runtime and system suspend. This causes problems for some systems, so avoid using quirks on S3 and S4. [Regression Potential] Low. These patches are in upstream stable, and it brings back driver's old behavior. ===Original Bug Report=== I have installed Kubuntu 18.04 on 3 different machines (my friend's and my own) with no suspend problems but my HP Pavilion 11 x360 does not suspend. It suspends fine with Ubuntu 17.10, Kubuntu 17.10, Devuan Jesse, Devuan ASCII and Windows 10 but fails with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04. I have also tried suspend using a live USB of 18.04 on this machine and it fails in the same way, so does not appear to be caused by any additional programs that I had installed. By installing an older kernel (4.14) on Kubuntu 18.04 the suspend function works as expected. Running Kubuntu 18.04 with kernels 4.15, 4.16, 4.17 results in the suspend failure that freezes the machine and requires a hard reset. Correct behaviour is - Screen goes blank, fan goes off, power LED flashes to show machine is in suspend. Pressing power button triggers 'resume' function. What happens - Screen goes blank, fan stays on, power LED stays on. Machine stays in this state and does not respond to any keyboard interaction, mouse movement or power button presses. Ctrl + Alt + f1 (or f2, f3, f4 etc) does not get any response. The only way to use the machine is to shut down by holding down the power button. Checking the logs suggests that the machine believes it is in suspend mode sleep [deep] when it isn't. Having to hard reset to get any response means that the kernel logs say no more than sleep [deep] pm-suspend also results in the same problems with kernels 4.15 and 4.16, but works fine with 4.14. It is curious that a machine that suspends fine on an earlier 4.14 kernel no longer works with 4.15 and above, whilst 3 other machines (including one with pretty similar hardware) do not exhibit this problem. There are only a handful of questions about it on the forums but at least 3 other people have the same problem: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029405/ubuntu-18-04-crashes-on- resuming-from-suspend https://askubuntu.com/questions/1041369/after-upgrading- from-17-10-ubuntu-18-04-wont-sleep-suspend I am attempting to round up anyone else with the same issue and point them to this bug report. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel
#592, #602 @Robert R (roremich) 17.10 w/o .1 is *toxic* (and anyway EoS, with .1 also). Already the first boot up changes the value. The UEFI is destroyed, so to speak. Btw., that would not have happened in CSM mode instead UEFI mode. Hard cheese, inform in advance. Installing a clean kernel in a live system has no effect because it doesn't allow you to boot. You could try this: 1. Remove the HDD and connect temporary exclusive at another System! 2. Install Ubuntu 18.04.1 64 bit in UEFI mode! 3. Insert this HDD in the Lenovo G50-80 and try to boot! This should correct the false value. As a thinkable alternative: 1. Remove the HDD and connect temporary exclusive at another System! 2. Install Win10 1804 64 bit in UEFI mode! (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO - during the installation routine try "I don't have a product key"/"Ich habe keinen Produktschlüssel"!) 3. Copy the flashing tool with the current UEFI version to the harddisk (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/LENOVO-G-SERIES-LAPTOPS/G50-80/downloads/DS102231 - sadly old A0)! 3. Insert this HDD in the Lenovo G50-80 and try to boot! 4. Flash the current UEFI! 5. With a little bit luck the UEFI values will be set to defaults. 6. Now you could kill Windows with an Ubuntu 18.04.1 64 bit installation. One more comment: Asking at https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic /corrupted-bios-due-to-intel-spi-bug-in-kernel-/ isn't the best idea. And finally: Nail the 17.10-DVD to the wall! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux-hwe-edge source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in linux-oem source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Artful: Fix Released Bug description: An update to linux kernel on Ubuntu 17.10 that enabled the Intel SPI drivers results in a serial flash that is read only in Intel Broadwell and Haswell machines with serial flashes with SPI_NOR_HAS_LOCK set. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1786669] [NEW] Xorg freeze / nvidia-driver-390 does not boot
Public bug reported: Ubuntu installed in legacy mode (efi not supported) graphic card: Nvidia GF108 [GeForce GT 520] Kernel: linux-image-4.15.0-30-generic With default driver active [xserver-xorg-video-nouveau] the performance is reduced (compared to active nvidia driver in previous 16.04 installation). Install the downloaded package: $ sudo dpkg -i linux-image-4.15.0-041500rc6-generic_4.15.0-041500rc6.201712312330+20170103+1_amd64.deb 4. Make sure the kernel is installed without any error. Once installed, reboot. 5. At grub, choose the newly installed kernel. You can choose the "recovery" mode. 6. Reboot and go to BIOS settings to confirm your BIOS has been recovered. 7. In case your BIOS is not recovered, reboot to the new kernel, then reboot *once again* to the new kernel, do not enter BIOS settings before the reboot. After the second reboot, check BIOS. 8. If your BIOS issue remains, download another kernel from http://people.canonical.com/~ypwong/lp1734147/linux-image-4.15.0-041500rc6-generic_4.15.0-041500rc6.201712312330+clear+debug_amd64.deb, and use dpkg to install it, then repeat steps 4 to 6. After your BIOS is fixed, the kernel packages you just installed are no longer needed, you can remove it by running 'sudo dpkg -r linux- image-4.15.0-041500rc6-generic'. The patch used to build the linux v4.15 kernel in step 8 can be found at https://goo.gl/xUKJFR. --- Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware.
