[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1823146] Re: network namespaces error

2019-04-04 Thread YG Kumar
Hi,

One more observation. We are facing this issue with four of our compute nodes.
When I rebooted one of them,
it seems to fix the issue. Nevertheless we dont think this is a viable
solution. Hence I will submit the apport file shortly from a defective server.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1761379] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2019-04-04 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From grom...@br.ibm.com 2019-04-04 08:50 EDT---
Hi Cascardo!

(In reply to comment #42)
> Hi, Gustavo.
>
> We have just missed the kernel freeze. So, we will need to SRU this change.
> I am still waiting for your feedback, before I submit this for review.

I think it's fine to miss the freeze and postpone it.

That said, are you waiting any additional feedback besides the one I
posted on 03/28?

--
Hi Cascardo. It looks good. I'm able to get a jit profile using the agent found
in linux-tools-5.0.0-8-generic with:

$ sudo perf record -k 1 -e instructions:u ./java
-agentpath:/usr/lib/linux-tools-5.0.0-8/libperf-jvmti.so crc32
$ sudo perf inject -i ./perf.data -j -o ./perf.data.jitted
$ sudo perf report -f -i ./perf.data.jitted

Thank you.

Cheers,
Gustavo
--

Please do let me know if you are expecting any additional testing, but
so far from my side status is: ship it! :)

Thanks a lot.
Gustavo

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1711407] Re: unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free

2019-04-04 Thread Dan Streetman
unfortunately I've moved away from kernel work, for now at least, and no
longer have time to continue this bug; if anyone else would like to pick
up the work, I'm happy to answer questions.

bug. Any further reports of the problem should please be reported
  here instead of that bug.

  --

  [Impact]

When shutting down and starting containers the container network
namespace may experience a dst reference counting leak which results
in this message repeated in the logs:

unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free. Usage count =
  1

This can cause issues when trying to create net network namespace and
thus block a user from creating new containers.

  [Test Case]

See comment 16, reproducer provided at https://github.com/fho/docker-
  samba-loop

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821609] Re: lightdm login screen briefly appears and then blanks out on Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5870 - failure to load i915 kernel module

2019-04-04 Thread Derk Willem te Bokkel
so why the peculiar behaviour that lightdm works when the partition
installed native grub boots the system

BUT not when a grub installed by another partition is used then lightdm
consistently crashes and the machine locks up..

BUT if i915 is added to /etc/modules in the offending partition it all
seems to work properly .. except plymouth does not show up..

if grub is restored by the offending partition via booting via rescue or
working through a chroot WITHOUT i915 added to /etc/modules i.e. as
installed originally .. the system seems to work but some times only
vesa is used after an initial lightdm crash ..

Then there is partition sda1 which consistently works from any grub
installed by other partitions and NEVER had i915 added to /etc/modules
..

please explain...what might cause this

Bug description:
Okay the has happened recently at least since march 18, 2019 iso and
march 22, 2019 iso are both effected very similar to one of my
previously reported bugs .. which was related to xorg not being
  installed ..

back ground .. PC is lenovo sl 500 with evo860 SSD drive

3 partions contain installs of disco sda1 -- main working system -- I
usually install grub from here as master ..

sda6 and sda7 are test installs of disco daily iso's 03-18-2019,
  03-22-2019 repectively

on the test installs as long as the iso is using the grub boot loader
installed from that install the system will boot normally .. the display manger
tends to flicker on and off but does final start and login can proceed.

but if another install re-installs grub as master the display manager
fails to stay active or even come-up for sda6 or sda7 only if their
own grubs are reinstalled will they work normally

sda1 display manager/xorg login works always no matter which "grub-
  source" is in control.

if I use rescue boot from any grub as master I can get the displays to work
by running dpkg fix which does nothing .. and then resuming the boot .. then
things work normally..
if the "non-rescue" boots are used the screen/computer locks and only a power
down and reboot gives access. (sometime requiring radical depowering ..
unpluging and removing battery)

now the is a message that appears that RCs??? level is missing.

Title:
[amdgpu] Flickering graphics corruption (but none observed in kernels
  4.18.10-4.18.12)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The screen always flickers at a frequency of 75 GHz on the AMD RX 580 gpu. At
60 and 50 GHz, if you switch to any other than 75, the flickering will
disappear until the display turns off. After switching on, flicker returns. At
the core of 4.18.0-10, just like on the AMD Radeon HD7970 gpu, the problem is
not visible. More in the video

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1823146] Re: network namespaces error

2019-04-04 Thread Tom Reynolds
This seems to be an issue with network namespaces, which I assume may
point to Linux. This report is about Ubuntu Kylin, a supported Ubuntu
flavor.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Please make it happen in the coming oem-kernel as there will be a
flood of Intel Comet Lake (CML) platforms that would need it. Thank
  you.

The same is needed for the rest of the stack.

CML is basically another iteration of Skylake/Kabylake/Coffee Lake,
and doesn't need other changes than pci-id's and support for the PCH
(similar to Cannon point, already supported by the kernel).

  [Test case]

Test that i915 graphics works on CML.

  [Regression potential]

None really, these only add a bunch of new pci-id's across the stack.

Title:
MAC address needs to be unique and unchanged during entire netboot
  process

Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
  Fix Released
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Currently the MAC address is not solely used to id the machine or system.
It is at the moment used to id the interface that the MAC represents.
(At a very early state in the process the MAC address is missing or only
available from inside the partition.)

The minimum PXE boot requirements need to be satisfied in general.
The boot loader is part of the firmware and not loaded from the server.
So that means the firmware needs to provide the MAC address.
But the MAC address is not available at that time, so it's not available
upfront.

MaaS is using the same MAC address for the initial DHCP request as for the
network boot.
Hence an initially known MAC address is required that needs to be static and
doesn't change (on subsequent boots for that instance).

There might be an IBM internal ticket already open for this - please
  check.

Furthermore the firmware needs to requests files like this:
  pxelinux.cfg/01-88-99-aa-bb-cc-dd
  pxelinux.cfg/default
  And BOOTIF support is required:
See 'petitboot doesn't handle ipappend in pxelinux.cfg'
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/tasty-taco/+bug/1322307
  for reference.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I run cosmic on my Dell Latitude E7470, which has an intel usb
  bluetooth device (8087:0a2b).

Sometimes (not every time) after a suspend/resume cycle, my laptop's
  bluetooth stops working. hciconfig shows:

  hci0: Type: Primary Bus: USB
BD Address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 ACL MTU: 0:0 SCO MTU: 0:0
DOWN
RX bytes:0 acl:0 sco:0 events:0 errors:0

Trying to reinitialize the device by reloading the driver has no effect:

╰─▶ modprobe -r btusb; modprobe -r btintel; modprobe btintel; modprobe

why the same kernel under 15.10 it is not, but it is freezed release and

Title:
Booting hangs when USB 3.0 Etron EJ168 PCI card is detected

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have installed Etron EJ168 PCI USB 3.0 [1B6F:7023] which briliantly works
in any Windows OS (I use multiboot PC) on my Conroe865PE AGP/PCI Intel
Kentsfield QX6800 system with classic BIOS (non UEFI).
There are no devices connected to PCI USB card during boot.

The desktop Ubuntu 18.04 kernel 4.15.0-46-generic freezes with this
card during boot (see attached "photo log" with boot and grub
options). I can't access/login Ubuntu or console. It was checked and
confirmed on ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso LIVE CD desktop (with
  acpi=off option too).

Previously I was used and removed USB 3.0 NEC Renesas upd720200 PCI card
[1033:0194], which was partially workable under my installation of Ubuntu 18.04
and Windows. It had problems from time to time with FW load from card on start
and not detecting USB devices connected even if FW present.
I tried and also removed USB 3.0 NEC Renesas upd720202 PCI card [1912:0015]
which also was partially workable in the same way (other card bios and newer
NEC chip). System was fully bootable with NEC cards.

The Etron EJ168 works superb on Windows OS's with directly or with hub
connections with USB devices.
I can assist in any way to solve this bug as IT Professional.

The commit 5113d730a1ee26bb13cbe38fdc10a7ebe7baf3cd could not be tested.
An error occurred: "fatal: reference is not a tree:

There is no problem in the ed14acd316bae2d3365f71ea9941490a71d3adf2
commit.

Title:
Bluetooth (btintel) stops working after suspend/resume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I run cosmic on my Dell Latitude E7470, which has an intel usb
  bluetooth device (8087:0a2b).

Sometimes (not every time) after a suspend/resume cycle, my laptop's
  bluetooth stops working. hciconfig shows:

  hci0: Type: Primary Bus: USB
BD Address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 ACL MTU: 0:0 SCO MTU: 0:0
DOWN
RX bytes:0 acl:0 sco:0 events:0 errors:0
TX bytes:3 acl:0 sco:0 commands:1 errors:0

and dmesg tells me (various combinations of):

[237660.728312] Bluetooth: hci0: command tx timeout
  [237732.339965] Bluetooth: hci0: command 0xfc05 tx timeout
[237925.202500] Bluetooth: hci0: Reading Intel version information failed
(-110)

Trying to reinitialize the device by reloading the driver has no effect:

╰─▶ modprobe -r btusb; modprobe -r btintel; modprobe btintel; modprobe
  btusb

  shows in dmesg:

[237938.219190] usbcore: deregistering interface driver btusb
[237938.601731] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb
[237940.626392] Bluetooth: hci0: Reading Intel version information failed
(-110)
[237940.626426] Bluetooth: hci0: command tx timeout

Strangely enough, reloading the module sometimes does work, upon which the
kernel tells me :

Looking further back in the kernel log, the difference between failed and
successful resumes seems to be this:

  Resume with broken bt:

and everything works fine after that.

The first kernel on which this error occurred was 4.17.0-6-generic. Before
that, I used 4.15.0-25-generic which works perfectly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821663] Re: [regression][snd_hda_codec_realtek] repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade

2019-04-04 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
FWIW, I think a better way to do this is to ask Realtek to implement
correct de-pop function for this platform.

Of course blacklisting is still a proper compromise.

Title:
  [regression][snd_hda_codec_realtek] repeating crackling noise after
  19.04 upgrade

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm experiencing a repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade that
start just after the boot and before the login.

I tried a bunch of fixes for pulseaudio I found googling, including this one
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches.2C_skips_or_crackling
   and this one
https://askubuntu.com/questions/864608/audio-crackle-through-headphones.
Neither of which helped.

The command "killall pulseaudio" usually stop the noise for 10
  seconds, then the noise restart.

The system was running smoothly on 18.10

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1822426] Re: 19.04 Built in Intel HDA sound is disabled upon resume

2019-04-04 Thread Cristian Măgherușan-Stanciu
I also noticed this, my laptop's integrated Intel audio device is also
missing from pulseaudio(both as input and output), but I can see other
HDMI or USB sound devices I may have attached and I can switch to them
and they work as expected.

Interestingly the device works when playing a WAV file using aplay, but
only if I run aplay as root. As a normal user I can just see it in
alsamixer and I can play with the volume and mute controls there.

Here's the error I get when using aplay as my ordinary user:
$  aplay test.wav
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1071:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore
aplay: main:828: audio open error: Permission denied

Bug description:
With 19.04, Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High
Definition Audio Controller intermittently is not enabled when
resuming from sleep. The HDMI sound device is enabled but that is not
hooked up on my system. New with 19.04, when sound works after
resume, an icon labeled "Built in Audio Stereo" appears during the
  resume process.

Unsure if this is related, but sound seems to sleep when not in use.
Launching sound enabled apps produces a quiet "tick, thud" sound as
  sound system turns on.

When sound is not working, killall pusleaudio "fixes" the issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1823029] Re: [Dell XPS 15 9757] Occasionally fails to suspend and locks up instead

2019-04-04 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v5.1-rc3 kernel [0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed”, and attach dmesg.

Thanks in advance.

Title:
SMBv2+ does not show all files when mounting a windows share

Status in Linux:
  Unknown
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Debian:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When using the SMBv2 Protocol to mount a top level windows share (such
as C:\) not all files (or directories) are shown that exist on the
server side. Exactly 2 files are always missing...

  Steps to reproduce:
On a windows7 PC (or Server) e.g. C:\ must be published as Share (must be top
level share - a subfolder like C:\data\ seems to work)

  sudo mount -t cifs //SERVER/SHARE_NAME /mnt -o
  domain=DOMAIN_NAME,username=${USER},uid=1000,gid=1000,nounix,vers=2.0

As a result always 2 Files (or directories) are missing in the mounted
  directory of the ubuntu installation.

Seems to be a kernel bug (source tree: linux/fs/cifs).

The ubuntu versions I have checked:
  Ubuntu 14.04LTS amd64
  Ubuntu 15.10 amd64
