[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-11-21 Thread Pedro Ribeiro
@Coiby Xu (coiby)

I build the next branch of linux-gpio (which contains the patch you mentioned
in #251), and the trackpad works just fine without the hid polling on the
kernel command line.
You can contact me if you'd like further testing, my email is

Bug description:
  Hello

The MSFT touchpad of this Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 laptop is not reacting at
all (pointer and click never move when touchpad is touched). This has been
reported by other users in various websites, with various linux systems
including other Ubuntu systems, but I saw no launchpad bug so I post one.
Example of websites covering the issue :
  - https://askubuntu.com/questions/1253830/lenovo-legion-5-touchpad (exactly
the same laptop)
  - https://www.linux.org/threads/lenovo-legion-5-touchpad.29536/ (similar

Title:
USB2.0 HUB only works after an USB device is connected

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The USB hub identified as: "214b:7000 USB2.0 HUB" presents a problem
on Linux where often it is only detected after another device (for
example a mouse) is connected to it.

On the computer's firmware screen and configuration, and on Windows,
the hub works fine: once connected, it is detected and devices
  connected on it are detected.

On Linux, most of the times nothing happens or only the hub is
detected (not the devices connected to it). After one of the devices
is disconnected and reconnected, or another USB device is connected in
the hub, then the hub and all devices connected to it are detected at
  once.

I believe this is a problem related to the Linux kernel because I
never observed this behaviour on the computer's firmware or on
  Windows.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1901947] Re: Boot failure (black screen) when Nvidia GPU is enabled

2020-11-21 Thread alvaro
I reinstalled the system with a clean new 20.04.1 LTS (hard drive
replacement for a SSD) and everything works fine now with 455 driver.
My configuration must have been screwed somehow but it escapes me where
about.
I won't be needing anymore support so thanks for the ticket. If you need
anything else from me please let me know.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1905132] Re: no audio output dummy only

2020-11-21 Thread Jaromir Obr
I've just found out that upgrade to the latest "groovy-proposed" fixed my issue
(see the description in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/1.2.3.2-1ubuntu3.1).
It seems that my issue reported in #1901901 is duplicate of #1901922 .

Bug description:

Since shortly it stopped working and only showed: "System => Sound => Output

Checked it with different kernels and it is not kernel related

  to prevent from upgrades again:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1904953] Re: USB2.0 HUB only works after an USB device is connected

2020-11-21 Thread FurretUber
Disabling the autosuspend from the USB device fixed the problem.
However, I did not want to disable it for all USB devices, so I added an
udev rule:

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="214b",
ATTR{idProduct}=="7000", ATTR{product}=="USB2.0 HUB",
TEST=="power/control", ATTR{power/control}:="on"

On Windows, the USB power saving is enabled but this does not happen.
Maybe Windows has a quirk configured for this device already?

Title:
USB2.0 HUB only works after an USB device is connected

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The USB hub identified as: "214b:7000 USB2.0 HUB" presents a problem
on Linux where often it is only detected after another device (for
example a mouse) is connected to it.

On the computer's firmware screen and configuration, and on Windows,
the hub works fine: once connected, it is detected and devices
  connected on it are detected.

On Linux, most of the times nothing happens or only the hub is
detected (not the devices connected to it). After one of the devices
is disconnected and reconnected, or another USB device is connected in
the hub, then the hub and all devices connected to it are detected at
  once.

I believe this is a problem related to the Linux kernel because I
never observed this behaviour on the computer's firmware or on
  Windows.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1905132] [NEW] no audio output dummy only

2020-11-21 Thread Huenils
Public bug reported:

My output sound device "Lenovo Family 17h" worked well in Ubuntu 20.04.
device: IdeaPad-5-14ARE05
Since shortly it stopped working and only showed: "System => Sound => Output
Device" - "Dummy Output".
Checked it with different kernels and it is not kernel related
problem since upgrade of libasound, so we set back to older version

cat /prod/asound/cards

 0 [Generic]: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic
  HD-Audio Generic at 0xd04c8000 irq 90
 1 [Generic_1 ]: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic
  HD-Audio Generic at 0xd04c irq 91
 2 [acp]: acp - acp
  LENOVO-81YM-IdeaPad514ARE05-LNVNB161216

we figured it to be no pulse problem but with alsa

solution:

sudo apt install libasound2=1.2.2-2.1 libasound2-data=1.2.2-2.1
libasound2:i386=1.2.2-2.1 libatopology2=1.2.2-2.1

to prevent from upgrades again:

echo libasound2 hold | sudo dpkg --set-selections

** Affects: alsa-lib (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1899145] Re: Getting a repeating, white-noise like "tik tok" from speakers

2020-11-21 Thread Ian Bruntlett
TL;DR - This bug has been fixed.

Detail...
As of last Saturday (14th November 2020), this bug no longer happens with both
Ubuntu 20.04.1 and 20.10. I also noticed that the sound was very much louder
than expected from my system - reducing the volume fixed that OK. Tested sound
by playing a music video in YouTube. There is the occasional crackle when
booting or changing the volume but that is OK.

Ubuntu 20.04.1
Both kernels 5.4.0-53 and 5.4.0-54 were fine.

Ubuntu 20.10
Kernel 5.8.0-28, also fine.

Bug description:
This bug appears on 20.04 and 20.10

I believe it is a kernel bug.

Currently reporting from Ubuntu 20.10 (beta), having updated packages.
  Kernel is x86_64, 5.8.0-21

It can be mitigated by the echo command, namely:
  echo -e "\a\a\a"

So I wrote a small shell script to do this:-
  #!/usr/bin/env bash
  while true
  do
  date
  echo -e "\aShh..."
  sleep 5
  done

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1875252] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS update causing no sound coming from built-in speakers

2020-11-21 Thread Martin Wynne
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1876065 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876065

The patch did not resolve the issue for me, and the bug is still there.
I just upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 on a Dell Latitude E6230, and there
was no sound output, with the sound settings showing only 'Dummy
output'.

I had to do a fresh reinstall of 18.04 which was extremely time-
consuming.

The same problem had occurred for me in the summer on a Dell Latitude
E7270. I saw then that there were lots of reports of the problem, and it
seems inexplicable to me that this has not been fixed.

I guess I'll have to start looking for a different Linux distro.

  [Impact]
We already have correct NVMe suspend-to-idle implementation, we can
remove workaround we carried in Ubuntu kernel.

  [Fix]
Revert unnecessary no D3 quirks we used as workaround.

  [Test]
After the revert, both NVMe still use native power saving mechanism as
  intended.

  [Regression Potential]
Though unlikely, if there is any platform that uses legacy S3 and needs
to keep the NVMe device in D0 instead of D3, this might have impact on
  that scenario.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1905027

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1872333] Re: MSFT0001:01 touchpad randomly does not work after boot (Lenovo Yoga S740)

2020-11-21 Thread Elias Julkunen
Sorry, I mixed secure boot to UEFI etc. After disabling secure boot, I
have been using mainline kernel 5.9.6-050906-generic for a while now in
Ubuntu 20.04 and the touchpad has always worked. Seems fixed there.

MSFT0001:01 touchpad randomly does not work after boot (Lenovo Yoga
  S740)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
About 50% of the Ubuntu 20.04 Ubuntu boots end up so that the touchpad
of my Lenovo Yoga S740 does not work (cursor does not move). External
mouse works even then. After one or two reboots the touchpad starts
working, and it works until the next boot, when it may not work again.

This seems very similar to this Lenovo Yoga S940 touchpad problem:
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=252711

Attached (i2c_error.txt) is the output of "dmesg |grep i2c" on a boot
when the touchpad did not work. The main error message seems to be
"i2c_designware i2c_designware.1: controller timed out". The name of
the touchpad is "MSFT0001:01 06CB:CDB0 Touchpad" (from cat
  /proc/bus/input/devices)

This bug report has been created on a boot where the touchpad does
  work.

FYI, on Windows, the touchpad has always worked without problems.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1777238] Re: video lag - Every 5 seconds a freeze frame when playing video of any source

2020-11-21 Thread shankao
In my case, the culprit was have running indicator-multiload on gnome.
Thanks to this post I tried to quit it and the shuttering went away; it
goes back by starting it up again. Do you guys happen to have it
installed too? If so and stopping the program fixes it, I'd reconsider
to change the package for this bug report
