[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1292870] Re: WiFi sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't, sometimes stops, Kernel bug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can start working on this bug. Please run the following command which will attach necessary information: apport-collect BUGNUMBER if you are using Karmic Koala (9.10) or newer, or apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` BUGNUMBER if you are using Hardy Heron (8.04) Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python- launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. If you are using an older release or cannot use apport please at least add the following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options): First run the following commands: 1) uname -a > uname-a.log 2) dmesg > dmesg.log 3) sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log 4) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or tar/zip-ed). For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel- related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies. I use a Micronet wireless USB dongle since the inbuilt wifi is very slow, and is disabled by blacklisting it. The dongle shows if it is working since it flashes blue when it does. Lately the wifi connection often fails at boot, with the system not attempting to connect (the dongles does not light up). Sometimes it works, and then drops out later. Sometimes it reconnects by itself, sometimes not. Sometimes removing the dongle, waiting and then reinserting it works, sometimes not. Looking at syslog, I see the attached Kernel errors when the connection fails. The problem seems to have got worse recently. The wifi has always been a little unstable, but is now nearly unusable. I will gladly supply more information if someone can tell me precisely what is needed. I'm not an expert at linux, but not totally useless at it either. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1290035] Re: error messages appear while system loading following routine updates for the system
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). The document https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/nfs/nfsroot.txt states that there are between one and nine fields in the kernel command line option 'ip=' separated by colons. The last two are dns0 and dns1 e.g. APPEND root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=10.0.0.1:/exports/nfsroot initrd=boot/initrd.img ip=10.0.0.200:10.0.0.1:10.0.0.1:255.0.0.0:itx1c:eth0:off:10.0.0.1:0.0.0.0 rootwait=1 nfsdebug=1 nfsrootdebug=1 rw I find that if I supply one or both dns addresses, then the boot fails with the message ipconfig: too many options for eth0 and then when configure_networking (from scripts/functions in /usr/share/initramsfs-tools/) runs (called by scripts/nfs) says it can't create it's temp file /tmp/net-eth0:off:10.0.0.1:0.0.0.0 After that we get a kernel panic as init completes badly. Clearly the command line parsing does not meet the spec in the above reference. I'm sure I can work round this by not supplying dns addresses in the command line and re-writing /etc/resolv.conf elsewhere, but this needs fixing properly. I'm not sure if the ip= line is parsed elsewhere so I don't have enough information to offer a proper fix. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1266378] Re: GeForce GT 520 video card: no usb after suspend
Ubuntu (13.10 64 bit) and Kubuntu (13.10 64 bit) behave in this way. I removede the video card and with the "on-board" (very basic Nvidia too) device it worked ok. The 3.12 and 3.13 kernels brought no relief. With the 12.04.3 the GeForce GT 520 gives me no problems. Also when I SWITCH OFF all desktop effects in Kubuntu everything works fine with the GT 520. To be more descriptive, the games' visuals will appear to lag slightly (milliseconds) behind my input from the keyboard and mouse. This occurs most pronouncedly with the game Awesomenauts, while slightly improving in certain parts of the level (perhaps less CPU- intensive areas). The problem occurs, albeit less pronouncedly, with other games such as Counter-Strike: Source and Left 4 Dead 2 (if not all of Valve's Source games), Beat Hazard, and perhaps other games in my Steam library I have yet to try. Restarting the computer rectifies the problem, and renders the games snappy and responsive once again. It is unclear whether the games themselves become less responsive (CPU-wise), or whether it is the result of another link in the chain (input, GPU, RAM, HDD). I have a laptop that has one jack for line in/microphone and line out/headphones. This the reason why I bought a spliter like in the attached image. >Splits one 4 pines jack into two jacks: micrphone and line out I have an external studio microphone and headphones with the micrphone. ## Case 1 (Working) If I connect the micrphone of headphones to spliter that is inserted into my laptop, I can record my micrphone. HEADPHONES MIC + | +--- LAPTOP | HEADPHONES OUTPUT -+ ## Case 2 (NOT Working) If I connect another an external hardware (for example a piano) to the splitter, I cannot record anything... This is the issue. How can Ubuntu recognize if there is a headphones micrphone or an external hardware that is NOT a headphones micrphone? There is no sound what so ever from the speakers and testing sound from the GUI doesn't work even when the normal sound works. The crashes seem to happen after I restart the computer or when I wake it up from standby. Solving the problem may take more iterations of the following procedures: 1) sudo alsa reload or 2) sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio sudo alsa force-reload The methods for getting back sound have been taken from here: http://itsfoss.com/fix-sound-ubuntu-1304-quick-tip/ The problem is that this appears to happen randomly when I start my computer, so doing the before-mentioned steps is not really that fun. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1266120] Re: System freezes when Suspending or Hibernating (WIFI driver glitch?)
I'm currently using a Netgear WNA 1100 (http://wikidevi.com/wiki/Netgear_WNA1100), which is connected to a USB 3.0 PCI Hub, A sebrent CP4-TU (which, I believe is a rebranded Fresco Logic FL1100 device, as I have to use FL1100 drivers on Windows), but have tried plugging the device directly into one of my computer's built-in ports with the same results. I'm currently running Ubuntu 13.10, x64 desktop edition. I've tested this device using the 3.11.0-14, and the 3.11.0-15 kernels.
