I need help with this: "Take a look first to see what you can learn"(...)"Sometimes you can easily find the problem if it's in a subsystem that only has changes from a few patches.(...)" from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection I have attached the output from git log --oneline Ubuntu-4.1.0-3.3..Ubuntu-4.2.0-7.7 as "gitlog-oneline-4.1.0-3.3--4.2.0-7.7-2016-0101.txt" Does this output contain something that can help me save some steps? Otherwise I get this: piero@bianco:~/ubuntu-wily$ git bisect start Ubuntu-4.2.0-7.7 Ubuntu-4.1.0-3.3 Checking out files: 100% (7019/7019), done. Previous HEAD position was 4aa705b... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1514233] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 freezes during operation.
Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), I am now testing 4.0.0-4.7 Ubuntu-4.0.0-4.7 == Mainline 4.0.7 which happens to be 1 Mainline up from my last good Mainline. If this works I will be going back to bisecting the Ubuntu kernels. $ uname -a Linux bianco 4.0.0-4-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 9 15:17:01 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Quite simply I needed "extra" to get network and trackball working: sudo dpkg -i linux-image-extra-4.0.0-4-generic_4.0.0-4.7_amd64.deb for some reason I don't need "extra" with the upstream 4.3x kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1514233 Title: Ubuntu 15.10 freezes during operation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1244176] Re: Server 13.10 Install Fails with USB Keyboard (Appears to Hang)
sorry if my post wasn't detailed, but essentially: - the hw is an HP ML110 G7 with USB keyboard - the iso is the daily current Ubuntu server 64 bit - when you get to the language page, the keyboard stops reacting and all you can do is power off the machine. - ALL usb ports were tried, being those USB2 or USB3 I think that this is the same issue as described above, and I would like to add that Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS was previously installed without a problem, using the very same keyboard. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1244176 Title: Server 13.10 Install Fails with USB Keyboard (Appears to Hang) Status in “initramfs-tools” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “initramfs-tools” source package in Saucy: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Saucy: Fix Released Status in “initramfs-tools” source package in Trusty: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: A fresh install of Server 13.10 on old hardware fails when a USB keyboard is present. The installation succeeds when a PS/2 keyboard is installed. The installation appears to hang at the third screen, which is "Select Language". The screen does not respond to keyboard or mouse events. The issue was experienced independently on HP/Compag dc5850 with Athlon X2 2.3 GHz dual core, 4GB RAM; and DELL Optiplex 755. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1244176] Re: Server 13.10 Install Fails with USB Keyboard (Appears to Hang)
trying to install latest (today June 23rd) Ubuntu 14.04 server iso on HP ML110 G7, and can't go past the Language screen. How can this be still an issue without fix after such a long time? Switching USB ports doesn't work for me.
