Title:
[Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting
HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth
headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected.

With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic
  was perfect for video conferencing.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect)
1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile
  2. Start playing audio (browser or other)
  3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman)
  4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input)
  5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back

  [Expected]
When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone
should start working

  [Notes]
I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from
a browser.
As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching
profile.

I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without
success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload`
  and rebooting several times.

Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite
different since the profile changes but the headset stops working.

  [System info]
  Ubuntu: 20.04 - Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64
  pulseaudio: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3
  bluez: 5.53-0ubuntu3

  Headset: Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1910496] Re: nvidia-dkms-440 440.100-0ubuntu0.20.04.1: nvidia kernel module failed to build

2021-01-11 Thread I ain't telling you my full name wtf
For future reference, if anyone has the same issue I fixed it by
upgrading the driver to the version `nvidia-driver-460`.

So fix:

```
# Allow yourself to get the newest driver versions
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-460
```

I also threw in a `sudo apt-get purge nvidia*` for good measure. I did
have to `cd /` otherwise the purge would fail.

I've also faced this issue, and after trying out some of the older
drivers I can also confirm that nvidia-graphics-435 also doesn't work.

This is my first post on the forum, and as such if I need to reformat it
or create a new ticket I'd thank you for telling me so.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1807250] Re: At some point in the 18.04 cycle, /sys/bus/iio has disappeared from my system

2018-12-22 Thread Your full name
The issue now appears resolved with hwe-18.04/4.18.0-13, /sys/bus/iio is
now present and the functionality has been restored.

Summary:
/sys/bus/iio appears to be missing on all the bionic 4.15.* kernel releases
(including 4.15.0-43) but is present on xenial 4.4 and cosmic 4.18 (at least as
of 4.18.0-13). Here is to hoping there is not a similar kerfuffle with RNGs and
stuff :P

2018-12-18 Thread Your full name

The sad state of being able to use Ubuntu on touch devices (hint: you
can't)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1807250

So, apparently support for an entire bus class has been missing since
ubuntu bionic (18.04 LTS) was released in april. Using kernels from
other distros or ubuntus old xenial 4.4.0-134 all provide access to
sensor data, suggesting the issue is with current (and shipped) kernels.
Three weeks into this not much is happening even though the issue also
affect canonical-specific 4,18 kernels.

This all suggests that pretty much no one has been using ubuntu on touch
devices otherwise i wouldn't be the first one to notice this. Now that
the devs know this they have no time for it...

** Also affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a many HP ProBook 450 G1 and HP ProBook 650 G3 with fresh
  install of Ubuntu Desktop.

They all have a load average of 1.0 when idle (no graphical session
  opened).

  vmstat shows idle =~ 100%

The process which uses most CPU time is iio-sensor-proxy (about 1%)
and it's constantly in D state (uninterruptible sleep).

Manually starting this command shows that the sensor (lis3lv02d on
both products) is constantly sending garbage informations (see
  attachment).

With iio-sensor-proxy service stopped, the CPU load is ~ 0%

As the service is 'static' and can not be disabled, the only workaround is to
remove the 'iios-sensor-proxy' package.

2018-12-13 Thread Your full name

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  Cinnamon 3.8.8

  Hardware: ASUS Transformer Mini.

Also confirmed problematic for Yoga Series tablet/laptop hybrids.

Screen rotation works fine, but tablet coords including touch screen
and pen coords do not rotate with it.

Gnome gets touch screen rotation correct, but not pen coords
Cinnamon gets touch screen rotation and peen coords wrong

User can correct using convoluted xinput commands like:
  xinput set-prop "ELAN22A6:00 04F3:22A6" --type=float "Coordinate
Transformation Matrix" 0 1 0 -1 0 1 0 0 1

I spoke with Mint devs who said I should file it against iio-sensor-
proxy or libinput, which I assume is a better solution that asking
various wm developers to fix it individually.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1807250] Re: At some point in the 18.04 cycle, /sys/bus/iio has disappeared from my system

2018-12-13 Thread Your full name
Yeah, so this is like the person who started complaining about this
stuff which was totally confirmed by nacc.

Exceedingly fun fact: current bionic userspace/install booted with
debian stable kernel 4.9, debian testing kernel 4.18 and ye olde xenial
4.4.0-134 is working just fine *indicating* that support for an entire
bus class has been missing/faulty in ubuntu >=4.15 since bionic launch
like way back before everyone knew the name Cambridge Analytica and that
girl with the weird teeth from "Smallville" was charged with human
trafficking or whatever. I realize that people have selfies to take and
like totally have to spend a lot of time placating their friends about
their issues and stuff but that no one noticed this until now is kinda
disturbing and I like totally have to resist the urge to somehow
implicate Kylie Jenner in this.

The reason for the attitude is that i had to complete a friggin js-
required Scroogle puzzle to state the obvious.

Title:
At some point in the 18.04 cycle, /sys/bus/iio has disappeared from my
  system

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a Yoga 900-13ISK and a Thinkpad T470s. Both have had working
screen rotation in the past. However, I noticed today while supporting
a user in #ubuntu, neither do now. No icon in the Gnome menu and:

  # G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all iio-sensor-proxy
** (process:14877): DEBUG: 12:31:21.603: Could not find any supported sensors

Indeed, /sys/bus/iio does not exist! I believe this is distinct from
LP: #1792813, as I have just tested mainline 4.19 and it also does not
  work.

I am working on getting more data, including testing older kernels
from 18.04, but it might take me some time.

[Medion Akoya P2214T] Touchpad not properly recognized

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The ELAN (not Elantech) touchpad in my Medion Akoya P2214T (MD 99430)
laptop/tablet hybrid is not properly recognized. Both the touchscreen
and the touchpad function as a regular mouse, but the touchpad shows

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400463] Re: [Medion Akoya P2214T] Touchpad not properly recognized

2018-01-14 Thread Full Name
Hi Pat (paett) you write in #122

"So here i am sitting scrolling Down with my Touchpad (Scroll Gesture
not working) but Toupad is."

So does it work or not? Legacy (simple pointing device) is working since
long time. But it's not usable like this. The question is how you a
scrolling on the touchpad without gestures?

"After that i installed a complete new Version of Ubuntu 17.10 with full
whip of Ubuntu 16.04-r3, since i wanted to install the Git Solution on
17.10

And to my Surprise the mouse was working out of the Box (SecureBoot
still disabled)."

Again, what is working? Simple pointing device or touch gestures (e.g.
two finger scrolling etc.)?

Thank's for your efforts and hopefully ELAN Microelectronics Corp. is
getting things done (even tough I doubt because this device is years old
and probably not manufactured anymore!)

Bug description:
  SRU Justification

Impact: Many users are reporting issues with bios corruption with
17.10. This seems to stem from enabling the intel-spi-* drivers in the
kernel, which don't appear to be ready for use on end-user machines.

  Fix: Disable this driver.

Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware.

Regression Potential: Minimal, it's unlikely anyone is actually doing
  anything which requires this driver.

  ---

  Hi all,

Basically on Lenovo Y50-70 after installing Ubuntu 17.10, many users
  reported a corrupted BIOS.

It's not possible to save new settings in BIOS anymore and after
rebooting, the system starts with the old settings.

Moreover (and most important) USB booting is not possible anymore
since USB is not recognized. It's very serious, since our machines do
  not have a CDROM.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400463] Re: [Medion Akoya P2214T] Touchpad not properly recognized

2017-06-22 Thread Full Name
But I can't boot stock ubuntu because I have a 32-bit bootloader and
boot a 64-bit OS. (Intel Microsoft Atom Deal)

For that reason I use isorespin.sh (http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/)
and use the latest mainlinekernel to be able to use networking (wifi)

I can try respin without mainlinekernel - the question: How can I
subbmit apport while have no networking working?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400463] Re: [Medion Akoya P2214T] Touchpad not properly recognized

2017-06-12 Thread Full Name
Just digging out this 3-year old Thread to tell that this is still not
fixed in 2017.

Having these two Medion Notebooks:

- Medion Akoya S2217
- Medion Akoya S2218

with the same Touchpad:

- ITE Device(8910)

Tested with:

- ubuntu 16.04
- ubuntu 16.10
- ubuntu 17.04

And there is no:

- Multitouch
- Scrooling
- other Features

just plain pointing device (which makes live much harder!)

Please tell what to do getting this one fixed one day

Thank's for all the hard work!
Greetings

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1625119] [NEW] Nvidia settings can't be saved

2016-09-19 Thread name
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 suggest proprietary Nvidia drivers when a Nvidia GPU is
present. The settings in the nvidia-settings tool cannot be saved,
however, without starting the tool as root and doing all kinds of
workarounds which is impossible to do for the average user.

Do you really expect users to reconfigure their displays after every
login?

Unless you can fix this, the Nvidia driver recommendation should simply
be removed. Delivering such a horrible experience to millions of users
seems like a bad joke and the persons responsible should feel really bad
about this.

Ubuntu has no future anywhere with such usability issues.

** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

  14e4:4365 Weak wifi signal

Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
On a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 on my new HP Pavilion 15-020ng with
Broadcom BCM43142 hybrid wifi/bluetooth chipset the official driver
from Broadcom does not work correctly. On 2.4 GHz the wifi signal is
so low that the connection is interrupted on a regular basis (network
manager shows 26 Mb/s), other devices (notebook, tablet) do have a
normal signal at the same position and even this laptop has a good
  signal with Windows 7 (Dual-Boot).

  The exact device name:
  08:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
[14e4:4365] (rev 01)

I am using the official wl driver that was installed by default, also
tried reinstalling via sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
--reinstall without improvement and sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off.
Also blacklisted b43, brcmsmac and bcma as suggested by Linux
  Wireless.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1054298] Re: xbacklight doesn't work, but xrandr does and so does /sys/class/backlight

2014-08-30 Thread My name
Everything I wrote above is still true for me in 14.04, Trusty, 64 bit
version, with pretty much the same setup, plain Openbox (no LXDE, no
Lubuntu, no other DE) and lxterminal.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

xbacklight doesn't work. No backlight change, and no output from the program.
xbacklight and xbacklight -get show nothing, no output from the program
at all.
xbacklight -set50 and xbacklight-d :0 -set 50 does nothing nor prints any
output.

However both sysfs and xrandr work fine.

  Specifically:
xrandr --verbose lists outputs and shows the main screen has backlight
property,
and xrandr --output LVDS-0 --set backlight 50 changes the backlight
brightness.

  And

  cat /sys/class/backlight/psb-bl/actual_brightness shows the current
brightness, and
echo 50 /sys/class/backlight/psb-bl/brightness changes the brightness.

I have written the following script to use in place of xbacklight:

http://forums.bodhilinux.com/index.php?/topic/5985-brightness-scripts/page__view__findpost__p__56911

This script, both the sysfs and xrandr methods of it, works fine for me on
the same machine.
(for sysfs, I had to make a udev rule to allow users to write to the sysfs
files, as noted on that page and in the --help output of the script)
It requires zenity for the user interactive options. Not needed for the
non-interactive options.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1054298] Re: xbacklight doesn't work, but xrandr does and so does /sys/class/backlight

2013-11-04 Thread My name
Still doesn't work in Saucy.
For me, none of the following, cause any change in screen appearance, nor to
they bring any response in lxterminal other than a new prompt:

xbacklight -get
xbacklight -set 100 -time 0
xbacklight -set 20 -time 0
xbacklight -set 2 -time 0

Running Saucy in plain openbox, no lxde other than lxterminal.

Also, as an aside, I think #4 may be misleading in saying The xrandr program
also works fine.
These commands work fine:
[code]
# Sets the brightness (i.e., thev transparency) of the LCD layer very dark:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --brightness 0.1
# Legitimate values are 0 to 1
# Sets the brightness (i.e., thev transparency) of the LCD layer all the way
up:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --brightness 1
[/code]
but, unless I've misunderstood man xrandr they DO NOT affect the actual
brightness of the backlight. In a well lit room, the effect looks very similar,
but in a dark room the difference should be apparent.

It may be I haven't figured out the syntax correctly, but for me in Saucy, none
of these do anything:
[code]
xrandr --output VGA-0 --set backlight 50
xrandr --output LVDS-0 --set backlight 50
xrandr --output --auto --set backlight 50
xrandr --output auto --set backlight 50
[/code]
