Re: [Kicad-developers] [RFC] Op-amp symbol icons

2018-07-30 Thread Jeff Young
Hi John,

Good find. We should delete that one too.

With the new UI I’ve found some places where it would be nice to have footprint
& symbol viewers available, but we’ve only the one icon (library with
magnifying glass). The library icon is almost totally gone anyway, so I think
we should replace it with the opamp + magnifying glass and the footprint +
magnifying glass.

Cheers,
Jeff.

6D looks too close and 6B looks too far, so unless there's an intermediate
that'll look good (doesn't matter if it's on the grid or not) then the
concession has to be made towards one or the other based again on how the
other icons might look.

the images are too small for me to tell which one I would prefer to see in a
schematic. I would need to see them in context.

All I ask is that if someone is going to mess around with the symbol for one
of the more commonly used schematic symbols that you keep the same size and
position of the pins. This will avoid breaking existing schematics. The last
time someone changed the R symbol it was made narrower and the two pins of
the part no longer extended out far enough to meet up with the wires on my
schematics. I had to adjust all the wires going to a resistor to reconnect them.

Re: [Kicad-developers] [RFC] Op-amp symbol icons

2018-07-26 Thread Fabrizio Tappero
Hello,
sharp 1px or 2px lines cause icon to look sharp (obviously). This does not
normally lead to a pleasant GUI experience unless we consider a GUI from
the 90s.

According the the overall style chosen it might be a good idea to add a a
second line next to the 1px (2px) line of a much lower (or higher)
saturation. More sophisticated options exists too. Some guidance here:

cheers
Fabrizio

Re: [Kicad-developers] [RFC] Op-amp symbol icons

2018-07-26 Thread Andrey Kuznetsov
Hmm, tough choice, I wish I could see the set for the rest of the icons in
these 3 styles: 6[BCD]

The reason I kept 6C is because the other icons might only look good in 1px
body.

6D looks too close and 6B looks too far, so unless there's an intermediate
that'll look good (doesn't matter if it's on the grid or not) then the
concession has to be made towards one or the other based again on how the
other icons might look.

Re: [Kicad-developers] [RFC] Op-amp symbol icons

2018-07-26 Thread John Beard
OK, that is style 6.

Note that the opamp is a bit taller in 6B. This is because the versions
with the 2px output lead have the body 0.5px lower to keep alignment. The
alternative remedy is 6D, where the - is moved down 1px.

Cheers,

John

Can you do B4 body and C2 or B2 +-? except make sure +- don't look like
they're touching the body.

Re: [Kicad-developers] [RFC] Op-amp symbol icons

2018-07-26 Thread Jeff Young
Hi John,

Most other icons use a heavier pen width (see the DeMorgan symbols, pin
graphics, etc.), which would favour the B column.

I like the wider stance of the input pins in row 4.

BTW, the new black-and-white 16x16 icons for the dialog buttons also suffer
from slight blurryness. I don’t know if they’re worth fixing or not, but if
you’re so inclined….

Cheers,
Jeff.
