[Koha] possible bug in print summary

2014-10-02 Thread eugene jose espinoza
In Koha 3.16.3 and 3.16.4 running in a Debian server, installed through Debian
package. The 'Print Summary' in Circulation does not include the check out
books, where in 3.16.1 and probably 3.16.2, it shows the list of checked out
items. I have a Koha ILS in 3.16.1 wherein it's shown. In 3.16.3 and 3.16.4, it
does not show. When I updated 3.16.1 to 3.16.4, alas, it does not show. Could
this be a bug? Thanks and cheers!

Re: [Koha] Borrower's ID

2014-10-02 Thread Owen Leonard
Please, I need link on how to manually assign Borrow's number.

Yes, this is your third message about it, but you never responded to
the information I replied with after your first message:

It's important to understand what you're referring to. If you're
referring to the borrowernumber automatically assigned to each patron
in the database (borrowers.borrowernumber) then you can't control
that. borrowers.borrowernumber is for internal Koha use and shouldn't
 be changed.

If you'r referring to card number then you might want to check the
autoMemberNum system preference (Administration - System preferences
 - Patrons). If that preference is turned on then Koha will
auto-populate the card number field when adding new patrons.

If you didn't understand this response then please reply and ask for
clarification.

[Koha] Should Koha support old versions of Internet Explorer?

2014-10-02 Thread Owen Leonard
There is a discussion happening on the developers list about whether
Koha should continue to support old versions of Internet Explorer.

While we don't generally test in Internet Explorer, in practice we
attempt to fix browser incompatibility bugs reported for IE7 or
higher.

The benefit, from the developers' point of view, of dropping support
for IE7 (released in 2006) and maybe even IE8 (released in 2009) would
be our ability to upgrade certain third-party libraries on which Koha
is built, enhancing our ability to modernize the interface.

However, we don't want to unnecessarily exclude users who are forced
to use IE7 or IE8. I would like to solicit your opinions on the
matter:

- In your use of Koha are you required to use any version of Internet
Explorer and if so what version?
- In your use of Koha do you work with library patrons who are
required to use any version of Internet Explorer?
- In your opinion what should be the minimum supported version of
Internet Explorer?

I'm not counting votes, but I am interested in hearing everyone's opinions.

Thanks,

  Owen

[Koha] wheezy apt repo

2014-10-02 Thread mourik jan heupink - merit

Hi,

Just to be sure...: koha on wheezy is supported?

As the apt repo looks a bit squeeze-ish:

deb http://debian.koha-community.org/koha squeeze main

I tried 'wheezy' instead of 'squeeze', but that didn't work.

Using the above source list I am able to install koha-common. Is that
normal the way..? It looks a bit unlogical to me...?

We have a running koha on squeeze, but I'd like to move that install to
wheezy on kvm - meaning a new install.

Hi Owen,

We have completely moved over to win7, and have no need for older IE
support anymore. Most of our users use other browsers anyway: mostly
firefox chrome.

- In your use of Koha are you required to use any version of Internet
Explorer and if so what version?

If IE is used, it's mostly recent versions. (IE11)

- In your use of Koha do you work with library patrons who are
required to use any version of Internet Explorer?

Nope.

- In your opinion what should be the minimum supported version of
Internet Explorer?

No idea, others are probably more 'into' browser versions.

Re: [Koha] Should Koha support old versions of Internet Explorer?

2014-10-02 Thread Coehoorn, Joel
IE7 is not even supported by Microsoft any longer, and is only available on
operating systems that are also no longer support by Microsoft*. Even basic
security patches for that browser and OS are no longer published. I say
drop it.

IE8, by contrast, is still available for Windows 7 and still supported by
MS through January of 2016. I think we should give it at that long, but
probably no longer.

Another option may be to mark 3.16 or the upcoming 3.18 as an LTS
(long-term support) release, as other projects like Ubuntu, Debian, Moodle,
etc have started to do, but also mark it as the last release to support
IE8. That gives some more immediate relief moving forward for development
of future releases, but libraries that want or need to allow IE8 can have
confidence that the current release will continue to receive important
patches for some time.

* Note that it is still possible and supported to configure IE8 on Windows
7 to use the IE7 rendering engine.

Like I said it it is a database key (that should NEVER be edited and is not
public facing and is simply intended as a constant) koha uses 2 different
numbers to identify patrons: A Card Number, which is used to checkout books
etc, and a Borrower number that is used as a table key to identify patton in
other tables. The only way to edit the borrower number would be editing the
database manually. Koha will figure out everything if you use the import
mechanism and the Skelton CSV provided.

Excel.

I took a look and it seems to me that the barcodes are present and in the
correct place for import into Koha. So the file seems to contain the
correct information. Could the problem be with the way that Koha is
handling the file? You mentioned something about mapping. Is there
something in Koha that I need to tweak in order to import this file?

Thank you for your time

Thanks,
Bill

I did find a program called MARC_Utilities.exe that will change it to csv

referenced earlier. Here is it again...

I also added a txt file of the output from the mrc file exported from
Athena. It is also in that folder.

 Hope that helps.

I am away from my PC tonight on the road so I cannot connect with you.

I checked the file. We have only 5 fields :

I think you need much more detials like publishing details, item
 type(book/cd/serials).
Please check with your librarian and confirm.

 Hi Vikram,

It has been a busy week.,,

So I found a program that allowed me to export a .mrc file into an .xml

I converted all three files (one .mrc Athena export and two .mrc files
that were converted for import to Koha) and placed them in the following
folder so you can have a look...

I was able to open all three different types of each file in Microsoft
