[Koha] New OPAC design

2019-04-01 Thread Paul Poulain

Kia ora, hoping you're all enjoying the new month starting,

We (BibLibre) think that the default OPAC layout is not adapted to the
youngest audience. That's why we've decided to create a new design for
the OPAC, that will be soon submitted for inclusion in Koha 19.05. We
really hope you'll enjoy this new design.

We have set it on our demo instance, you can have a look here :
https://demo.biblibre.com/

PS: our customers will have this design automatically set during the
next update.

Those colors are hideous. Did anyone think at all about accessibility?
You can't even read the yellow lettering on white because of the lack of
contrast. Perhaps this is a fine design for a younger audience (theme).
However, when considering a new design you should consider how individuals
with disabilities, such as color blindness, will be affected. (Color
blindness affects approximately 1 in 12 *men* (8%) and 1 in 200 women in
the world.)

Unless the redesign is in jest. If that's the case, carry on.

Re: [Koha] Upgrading from Koha 17.11 to 18.11 --- anything to watch out for?

2019-04-01 Thread Hector Gonzalez
Hello, you should have a complete backup that you trust and know how to
restore. Both the database and the host files.

Also, if the upgrade includes your database server, the upgrade may fail, as
the upgrade might turn mysql off and leave it off while other packages -like
koha-common- get upgraded, and koha-common requires mysql to be up, in order to
upgrade your database schema. Make sure your mysql/mariadb packages are
upgraded before letting koha upgrade.

Other than that, it should be that simple.

Hector Gonzalez.

Dear Koha Community,
Need help. I have only just been appointed as Librarian to a Theological

Hi Luisa

I would stop now, the last 3.4 release was 7 years ago, it is very very
out of date. And upgrading from a version that old will be very hard.

If you haven't catalogued much already I would start with a new install
of 18.11.04 and start with that.

[Koha] Purging patrons while keeping those with items on loan

2019-04-01 Thread Elaine Bradtke
The reason I'm doing this is our membership numbering system has changed,
and our card numbers are the membership numbers (the membership card is the
library card).
I've come up with a workaround:

   1. Put all patrons with outstanding loans in a list (I have a report
   that lists them)
   2. Create a new patron category for these patrons (and change the
   individual card numbers to the new card numbers)
   3. Go through and purge the patrons by category, leaving the staff,
   patrons with outstanding loans, institutions, (any non-member patrons)
   4. Upload new patrons, matching by card number, overwriting the old ones
   (this, at least in the past meant that addresses, and expiry dates were
   updated, but loans remained as they were).

But wouldn't it be nice if there was an option in the Patron Batch Delete
function that said something like "Do not delete patrons with items checked
out".
Any librarian will tell you that just because a patron's card has expired
doesn't mean they've returned everything they've borrowed. This only works
because we have a very small number of borrowers!

will be soon submitted for inclusion in Koha 19.05. We really hope you'll enjoy

2019-04-01 Thread Chris Brown
Hi Hector,

Thank you for your advice -- I will keep it in mind. We plan to upgrade
over Easter when the libraries that we support will all be closed. I will
take a full snapshot of the server (virtual machine) first so we can roll
back if disaster strikes, and we already keep off-machine daily backups.

Do I still need to apply the "auto increment fix" in 18.11?

[Koha] Koha work slowly

2019-04-01 Thread Arayik Manukyan
Dear list,

So as we have a huge koha database with 7 million records on Koha 17.11.05

we always have such problem : during the day we noticed that koha began
work slowly especially searching,

we couldn't export data at that time and executed reports. We use MariaDB
latest version and when execute this command "show status like Conn" we
noticed that connections are very huge nearly 150 000.(See attached
file)After restarted MariaDB the connections became 100.

We,of course use documentation and added

#
key_buffer = 2000M
max_allowed_packet = 16M
thread_stack = 128K
thread_cache_size = 8
# This replaces the startup script and checks MyISAM tables if needed
# the first time they are touched
myisam-recover = BACKUP
max_connections = 500
max_user_connections = 500
#table_cache = 64
thread_concurrency = 300
table_cache = 3
open_files_limit = 65000#
# * Query Cache Configuration
#
query_cache_limit = 50M
query_cache_size = 300M
# * InnoDB
#
# InnoDB is enabled by default with a 10MB datafile in /var/lib/mysql/.
# Read the manual for more InnoDB related options. There are many!
# You might want to disable InnoDB to shrink the mysqld process by circa
100MB.
#skip-innodb
innodb_buffer_pool_size=16777216
innodb_file_per_table

We understand that it is opac search results which didn't reconnect after
any search.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Araik
