Yes, it would be enough, if you don't have subscriptions or holdings linked to
the deleted biblio records. Alternatively, you can build a query which
produces a list of biblionumber, then use this list in Tools > Batch record
deletion (no reindexing required).

Yes, no visual feedback but it works.

The 3.20 package will be updated, fixing this bug, this week-end. In the
meantime, if you want, you can apply a quick fix following this procedure:

- Access your Koha server with shell.

- Locate the file 'checkouts' in your local Koha installation. It is in 'svc'
subdirectory of the Koha home directory.

- Change your working directory to the directory containing 'checkouts'.

- Run this command:

  wget -O checkouts http://tinyurl.com/zg6ukte

It retrieves a valid 'checkouts' program.

Re: [Koha] homebranch, holdingbranch, transfers

2015-12-04 Thread Frédéric Demians
Your may try this. You need a third item's field: sourcebranch.

(1) When you move the batch of items from library A to B, create a text file
containing items' barcodes. Then batch modify those items:

  sourcebranch=A
  homebranch=B
  holdingbranch=B

(2) During the exams period, no transfer to A will be done at check-in. If the
check-in is done at library A or C, the transfer to B will be proposed, which is
what you want.

(3) When you move back the batch of items to library A, do a batch modify
using the text file create at 1:

  sourcebranch=A
  homebranch=A
  holdingbranch=A

Re: [Koha] Zebra rebuild frequency

2014-11-15 Thread Frédéric Demians
Paul, could you confirm that you use Zebra in DOM mode? It seems Zebra isn't
configured properly, and so doesn't know where to pick up unique ID for biblio
records (biblionumber field). Without an ID to identify biblio records, Zebra
can't neither delete nor update a biblio record.

Check your Zebra index definition file: biblio-koha-indexdefs.xml.

At the beginning of the file, you should have a line like this one:

  idmarc:datafield[@tag='999']/marc:subfield[@code='c']/id

My assumption is that you haven't this. This could happen if the upgrade isn't
done properly, for a reason or another.

I have a feeling that when zebra says incremental it means just that --
adding new data, but not deleting what has gone from MySQL.

It works for the vast majority of the Koha crowd. Zebra is obviously designed
to be able to add/edit/delete records. It's a minimum :-) You have to figure
out what's wrong with your installation.

It means you have activated DOM indexing for authorities with a UNIMARC

UNIMARC. See bug 7421.

Re: [Koha] Greek character sets in koha?

2012-09-23 Thread Frédéric Demians

It seems therefore that the only change needed is to add the encoding
labels above to the list that koha presents in the Z39.50 target edit
page. Or am I wrong, have I missed something?

You're correct. But since this list is so long, and the probability to get
biblio records using the vast majority of those encodings is near zero,
the question is: which of those encodings do you need which is missing
in Koha?

Is the current list of koha-supported encodings kept in the koha
database, or is it hard-coded in the koha code?

It's hardcoded in admin/z3950servers.tt Koha page template. You can ask
for an enhancement on:

  http://bugs.koha-community.org

and propose a patch, or find someone proposing a patch for you.

Re: [Koha] import items

2012-09-11 Thread Frédéric Demians

On the road to koha, we have successfully import bibliographic records
and authorities. Now, we have to import items record and problems
 begin .

Since several versions, items are not anymore stored internally both in
MARC biblio records and 'items' table. So, if in your framework, each
995 subfield is mapped to an 'items' table subfield, you can import
your items from your legacy ILS directly into the Koha 'items' table.
This way, you don't have to add items to biblio records, and import them
with bulkmarcimport.pl. So the process is:

1) Export your items in CSV
2) Transform your CSV file in order to encode properly each field for
Koha (item types, authorized values, etc.)
3) Import your CSV file into Koha
4) Reindex

 will see it then.

+1. And note to take a look at C4/Biblio.pm module, line 3547:

  substr( $string, 22, 6, frey50 );

Re: [Koha] String freeze for 3.6.6

2012-06-15 Thread Frédéric Demians

On June 15 we will go into string freeze for 3.6.6, which will be
released on June 23. There have not been many changes, so the
 translation should be pretty painless.

Koha 3.6.6 translation files have been updated on:

2012-06-14 Thread Frédéric Demians

We are almost one week out from the release of 3.8.2, which means that
on the 15th we go into string freeze before the release.

There shouldn't be a huge amount of changes from 3.8.1, but we will
soon find out once the translation manager has updated the .po files.

Koha 3.8.2 .po files have been updated on

Re: [Koha] Zebra database size

2012-05-18 Thread Frédéric Demians

I'm indexing a larger load of Marc records (about 1.600.000) and the
size of /etc/koha/zebradb has about 40GB. Is that right? My mysql
database has about 6GB, much less than zebra index. There is a way to
 reduce the zebra index size?

You can disable Zebra xpath indexing. In your Zebra index definition
file for biblio records (marc_defs/marc21/biblios/records.abs), you must
have this line:

xpath enable

Change it to:

xpath disable

Re: [Koha] Koha reindex with Zebra doesn't work

2012-04-17 Thread Frédéric Demians

Can this problem with the Zebra indexing be caused by the 2 errors
show in the Administrator Panel of the MARC record?

No, it can't be that. I've just tried to do an English UNIMARC
installation: it works. So there is something weird in your
installation.

Are you sure you haven't for example done a MARC21 installation and then
switched to UNIMARC via Koha system preferences? In this case, your
koha-conf.xml file points to MARC21 Zebra configuration files, and your
Koha instance send to Zebra UNIMARC records. You can see if it is the
case in this config file:

  etc/zebra/zebra-biblios.cfg

in parameter profilePath.

In any case, I recommend you to redo a complete installation from
scratch.

Re: [Koha] Koha reindex with Zebra doesn't work

2012-04-16 Thread Frédéric Demians

Alex, you have to find out why Zebra can't find Koha record unique
identifier (biblionumber) in your biblio records.

Use rebuild_zebra.pl and ask to keep exported records:

  ./rebuild_zebra.pl -r -b -x -k -d ./

In the current directory, you will have a 'biblio' subdirectory containing
exported biblio records. Look at them:

  less biblio/exported_records

One field must contain biblionumber. Is it conform to you record.abs
Zebra configuration file?

Re: [Koha] Can't search UNIMARC authorities

This error message indicated why Zebra indexing doesn't work:

 /etc/koha/zebradb/authorities/etc/dom-config-marc.xml: stylesheet

Authority Zebra DOM indexing isn't implemented yet for UNIMARC. You must
reinstall Koha, and choose GRS-1 indexing. You could also modify by hand
your

Re: [Koha] process_message_queue.pl - Example

2011-09-21 Thread Frédéric Demians

How do I set the SMTP server address in Koha ?

As Robin said, just try running process_message_queue.pl without
parameters, i.e. without pointing to a specific SMTP server. If your
Koha server has a local SMTP server configured, it will work. Otherwise,
it means you will have to ask your server system administrator to
install a SMTP server, or search for your Linux distribution how to do
it.

Alternatively, it's possible to send email via a SMTP server running on
a remote server. In this case, you have to give SMTP server address, and
so on, to the Koha email processing script. We don't have those
information, and can't help.

This is not anymore a Koha question but a Linux one: How can I send an
email from my distribution of Linux. This list is not the place where to
get a response to this kind of question.

Re: [Koha] Messaging Queue showing Pending on a patron

2011-09-20 Thread Frédéric Demians

How can I change the status from pending to sent on a patron messaging
 queue ?

You need to run periodically a script named process_message_queue.pl

Here is its documentation:

This script processes the message queue in the message_queue database
table. It sends out the messages in that queue and marks them
appropriately to indicate success or failure. It is recommended that
you run this regularly from cron, especially if you are using the
advance_notices.pl script.

This script has the following parameters :
-u --username: username of mail account
-p --password: password of mail account
-m --method: authentication method required by SMTP server (See
perldoc Sendmail.pm for supported authentication types.)

-h --help: this message
-v --verbose: provides verbose output to STDOUT

Re: [Koha] Report Help

2011-07-01 Thread Frédéric Demians
I wrote this report to get all subject headings in a Koha system that
  start with key phrases:

You can get your headings with a Perl script.

You can also export all your biblio records in ISO2709 and then combine
various standard Linux commands to extract and select your headings.

For example, on Linux Shell:

   mysql my_koha_db_name -e 'SELECT marc FROM biblioitems' | \
   yaz-marcdump | grep ^610 | sort | uniq

After grep ^610, you can add a text filter to extract just $a without
field name and other subfields.

2011-06-08 Thread Frédéric Demians
Wasn't someone from Argentina on about %s in Spanish? Could this be
all of

Yes. We get the same issue in French. It has been fixed for French on
Pootle. I now for sure it has also been fixed for German and Spanish. We
have now a better detection of this situation. It's still the
responsibility of translators to apply their translation to a current
3.4 installation, check the result, and fix any strings containing
inconsistent %s placeholders. For the next release, I will check all
languages and send a warning to translators who have to fix their
translation files.

Re: [Koha] DOn't ever return them if they are out?

  be returned.%s

item was on loan. It was returned before marked as seen: These are
error messages. This sure means that item still gets returned despite
  status *unseen*? Right?

item was on loan. couldn't be returned
Umm. Uh. What does this mean?

I cant figure a context where the latter d be, or make, any sense! Any
  help here?

This is a translation related issue. The English ambiguity
itself must be solved before being able to translate this sentence into
your language. This message comes from Koha inventory tool. You have to
see how it works in English.

In Koha inventory tool, you send a list of barcodes. Each item is then
handled by Koha. If an item is check out, Koha do a checkin. If the
check-in succeed, this message is displayed:

item was on loan. It was returned before marked as seen

If the check-in fails, for whetever reason, Koha displays this:

item was on loan. couldn't be returned.

I don't see any reason why the check-in should fail, but it happens and
Koha report it!
