Re: [Koha] Help Me

2017-10-09 Thread Martin House
I should have more clear on my response. I use the Dedicated Server
solution at atlantic.net, but my actual server is hosted in Canada. It
seems that the closest server solution near you would be Singapore, not
sure that's close enough. But I do think that you need to find a dedicated
server solution in your country and install it there using ssh. The newest
version of Koha makes this much easier than in the past. Post more details
if you have them, so we can help you.

Re: [Koha] Help Me

2017-10-09 Thread Martin House
I have been successfully running Koha on a cloud server over at
www.atlantic.net. The most basic setup will cost you about $10 per month
with backups. We are currently paying $50 for 4GB Ram and plenty of HD
space. Although, we are about to upgrade RAM to 8GB to increase speed.

Re: [Koha] Question about running PLACK

2016-12-13 Thread Martin House
Well, darn. I asked the question because a third party vendor I contacted
suggested that plack could replace zebra as the overall index. Of course,
I'm investigating moving our self-hosted system over to this company. :)
Shows you how much I know. (or how much this vendor knows). That said, the
vendor did say they have developed koha on their own, and made
modifications. I just assumed that I could do the same, with plack as they
have.

That's a bummer. I may need to see about setting up cron jobs that will
call zebra-rebuild daily. I tried that but have not been very successful.

Thanks (Vielen Dank!)

[Koha] Question about running PLACK

2016-12-13 Thread Martin House
Is there anything I should be aware of, before moving my production server
from zebra to plack? In other words, have any of you run in to issues that
may not be noted in the official instructions? My follow up question is, do
I need to remove zebra after plack install, or do I just leave it sitting
there?

I've looked at a few sites, and can't find concrete answers to these
questions. Thanks in advance!

PS. I'm sick of having to run zebra-reindex every day, manually, so I
figure it's time to investigate plack.

Thanks!

Re: [Koha] Koha Performance Issue

2016-10-03 Thread Martin House
Out of curiosity, does the amount of RAM make a significant difference?
I've been trying to troubleshoot performance issues because of both network
lag at our location. In trying to optimize the page-load speed during
checkout, I've also upped the serve RAM to from 1gig to 4gigs. While that
obviously doesn't address actual network lag (eg. bad pings or lost
packets) it can at least help me verify if the issue is with my Koha server
or with the building network. We are in a leased building, and have no
control over the network infrastructure, so if I can rule out the server as
a speed hindrance, then I can restart the conversation with IT.

Thanks,

Martin

[Koha] sql Query solved!

2016-09-26 Thread Martin House
I posted a question that I think has not been posted to the list yet, as it
is awaiting moderator approval. That said, in case it is posted, I wanted
to share my solution.

Question: How to list all students and their matching teachers?
Problem: Table(borrowers) has patron info, Table(borrower_attribute) has
teacher name and column code "Teacher."

I solved the problem by using mysqlWorkbench and running the following sql
query:

SELECT *
FROM `koha_library`.`borrower_attributes`, `koha_library`.`borrowers`
WHERE `borrowers`.`borrowernumber`= `borrower_attributes`.`borrowernumber`

[Koha] Zebra Index stopping daily

2016-09-15 Thread Martin House
Hey Everyone,

There has been a strange issue with my install over the past 12 months or
so. The Zebra index seems to stop daily. A crontab has been setup to run it
daily at 7am

-* 7 * * * koha-start-zebra library
Despite this, I have to manually restart zebra. Any ideas? I'm currently at
the latest version of Koha as I hoped it would resolve this issue.

Thanks,

Re: [Koha] looking for urgent help

2016-05-11 Thread Martin House
Morning,

I followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian

Using wget and apt worked perfectly every time.

I also advocate making copious notes as you work through the process. I
remember it taking me a long time to comfortable with the location of all
the various config files, etc. But, I think the latest verision of Koha is
much easier to install and get up and running.

[Koha] Circ Notices not working since migration

2016-04-23 Thread Martin House
None of our circulation notices are working anymore since our migration to
3.22. I have checked and notices appear to be queued. I fear that something
is wrong with how I have setup crontab.

Here is what I have for one of them:

1 * * * 2 /usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/process_message_queue.pl

Can someone help me shed some light on this? It's been really, really
frustrating to have this core function not working.

Thank!
