[Koha] Koha ILS Driver for Vufind
Hello all, I am hoping someone who has gotten Vufind and Koha working together can help me with this. I recently installed Vufind 2.3.1 and Koha 3.18.3 on Debian 7. I have configured Vufind and successfully imported the records from Koha into Vufind. However, I can't get Vufind to use Koha to authenticate patrons. I can see the status of Koha items update in Vufind searches, so I know Vufind can connect to the Koha database. The problem seems to be the password encryption used in the Koha ILS driver and the encryption used for passwords in the current Koha version. The Vufind Koha driver still uses MD5 while I have been informed that current Koha uses BCRYPT. Can anyone provide me with the Koha driver for Vufind or point me towards how I can update the driver to successfully authenticate with current Koha version? Thanks for your help. -- Olugbenga Adara ___ Koha mailing list http://koha-community.org Koha@lists.katipo.co.nz http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha

When I finish cataloguing I then delete the collection because I may not need it any more Please how do I go about it. I believe what you need to do is to get the MARC records staged for import but not actually complete the import. Then when you make a search in the cataloging module, you should get a hit from the reservoir which would have the records you staged for import. Go to Tools Stage MARC records for import then import the file, don't follow through with the last step of importing into the catalog. Once done with the cataloging, go to Tools Staged MARC management and you should be able to clean the records from the reservoir. Koha 3.16 is an enhancement and bugfix release. Changes of particular note include: * There is now the ability to use different templates for notices based on how the notice is to be sent. For example, is now possible to use different wording for email and SMS hold notifications. * Users can now unselect active facets when refining search results. * Search history can be now displayed and managed in the staff interface. * Loan checkins can now be backdated to an arbitrary date. * Holds can now be individually suspended and resumed from the OPAC. * Creating orders from staged files now offers much more flexibility. * The public reports service can now accept report parameters. * There is experimental support for Plack for development use. * The index update script can now operate as a daemon, allowing the indexes to be updated within seconds of a catalog record getting updated. There are many more enhancements, detailed in the release notes. There are also a number of improvements under the hood, particularly for internationalization. It is now possible to mark strings in the Perl source code for translation, and translation of strings in the JavaScript source code can now include placeholders. Also, a newer version of jQueryUI is now used by the staff interface. Koha can be downloaded from http://download.koha-community.org. Debian packages of Koha 3.16.0 will be available shortly. Re: [Koha] How frequently to run zebra rebuild and what switches
Hello Steven, Looking for some advice and recommendations. For a fairly small library running Koha 3.12.00.000 from the Debian squeeze packages, how often should the zebra_rebuild.pl script be executed and with exactly which switches? Right now I run it at 7:30 AM each morning with -run-as-root -b -r -v I am quite surprised you need to do that since you say you installed from Debian packages. All the installations I have done through the Debian packages always have the zebra incremental indexing properly set in cron and it is usually set to run every 5 minutes. You can check your cron settings to make sure that this is properly set and enabled to run regularly. I don't think you need to run it manually. That is as per my own experience. I am a librarian who had no prior experience about linux. The live DVD assisted me a lot to learn about Koha itself and the internal plumbing of linux. I am a self taught koha and linux user. I remember at KohaCon12 in Edinburgh, Scotland asking MJ and Chris Cormack about the possibility of a Koha Lived at the conference. No, was the asnswer. Thanks to Mr Olugbenga Adara of Nigeria and to my own persistence I taught my self. So it was the Live DVD, the Koha mailing list and my own willingness to learn. +1 If it is used as a demonstration and/or learning tool that is fine, but any system in production should have a clear upgrade path and be being run by someone who knows how to keep it up to date and secure. Like Mirko, I see no problem with the live dvd being used as a learning tool, its when it sneaks into production in a way that makes it very difficult to upgrade. That just is a short cut to long term problems. This was also what I voted for too. Chris Just like Chrispin, I have also benefited using live CDs / DVDs to get up to speed with Koha. It is a very useful tool for training and learning and demoing Koha, especially in locations were Internet access is non existent. However just like Chris and Mirko, I strongly advice against the use of live CDs / DVDs in production environment, especially when such sites would be live on the Internet. I have actually seen live Koha sites online that were installed using live CDs or DVD and which were still accessible with default usernames and passwords. If this is encouraged, it may give people impression that Koha is highly insecure when such installs are broken into. I believe the live Media should be encouraged but clearly stated at the default screens that it is only for TRAINING PURPOSES AND NOT TO USE AS A PRODUCTION SYSTEM Olugbenga Adara Skype: gbengaadara Blog: http://gbengaadara.blogspot.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/gbengaadara Profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/gbengaadara ___ Koha mailing list http://koha-community.org Koha@lists.katipo.co.nz http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha
Re: [Koha] How to handle multiple copies/items or authors while converting excel data to MARC
Hi Nanaji, To start with the authors, you should have each author in its own cell in excel. Then export out in excel in tab delimited, rather than comma. Then map the additional author fields to 700$a in MarcEdit. Only the first (main author) should be mapped to 100$a. As per the accession number, what I do is to export out the first copy, use MarcEdit to convert the file to Marc and then import into Koha. Then I repeat the step for subsequent copies. I have not yet been able to understand how to get Marcedit to generate multiple 952 lines for accession numbers in a single file. Some others may be able to shed more light on that! Re: [Koha] New added items not searchable on OPAC and on Staff catalog but can be checked out by barcode
Admire, When you run the indexing manually, does the number of records index tally with the number you expect? If it does, it may be that the framework you use to catalogue may not be properly configured. I recently discover that if I do not have data in 942$c, then those records will not show up in search results, though as you said, they are found by barcode. My two cents. Re: [Koha] Issues with biblio import into Koha
This is now really getting weird. The second copies Marc file has 2902 records. When this file is staged, it says 500 records were not matched. I split the file into 6 files of which 5 have 500 records each and the last with 402 record. Staging each of these files always says 60 records not matched, totaling 360 compared with the earlier 500. I now split one of the 500 records Marc file into 100s each and tried importing again. For each file it says 20 records not matched, making 100 that will not be matched compared to 60 if i import the 500 record file once. Am I experiencing a bug? We plan also to move from TESS to PowerSchool data information system for students. Do you know if it is possible to transfer data from PowerSchool to KOHA ? We have also some data in excel sheets, how about its transfer to excel to KOHA ? I don't know about TESS or PowerSchool but you can definitely transfer patron data in Excel to Koha. IF TESS or PowerSchool can export out as csv you'll be good to go too. There are several Koha demo online and you could take one for a spin to try (check koha-community.org). You can also transfer biblio records in Excel also to Koha but that is not as straight forward as the patron import. Re: [Koha] Koha Digest, Vol 88, Issue 39
Hello, - Original Message - Thanks for the information. In my Excel file I do have a column for 952$o and 050$a, but I do not know why the item records where not populated with the call numbers? Also my itemcallnumber in the Cataloguing global preferences is set to 050ab. I am now wondering is there is a script or mysql query that I can run to update the item call numbers. I am not aware of a script that will do that for you. But what I did when I had a similar issue was to export out the records, and using MarcEdit, fixed the copied the 050ab to 952o for every record/item and reimported back into Koha. Of course you need to make sure you have the proper match point so you don't get duplicate records. If such a script exists however, it would be nice to know. Re: [Koha] Call number appearing in Bib record but not in Item
Hello Admire, I have imported a records from an Excel file to Koha. My major challenge now is that call numbers are appearing on bib records but not on item records. I am aware there is a settings that you have to setup for the item records to pick the call number form bib. I will appreciate any hint. If you imported from Excel, then you should have made sure that your call number is mapped to 952$o. Then your call number will appear on item records. if you used Marcedit for translating your Excel file to MARC, this should be easy. However if you were doing copy cataloging and you wanted the call number to show up in items, then you should set the itemcallnumber under the cataloging system preference. For example if you were using LC then you would enter 050ab into the itemcallnumber field. You can check http://manual.koha-community.org/3.10/en/administration.html#catprefs for more info. I am not sure setting the itemcallnumber will work for imported data. Others may be able to confirm. I usually populate the field while converting data using MarcEdit. Hope this helps. I dont know how your excel file looks but let me quickly share the method i adopt for doing similar migration 1. After you have your excel (or libreoffice / openoffice) file with the data you want to migrate, seperate all multiple copies into another sheet. In other words have a spreadsheet that has no multiple copies. 2nd, 3rd etc copies goes into another spreadsheet with a similar structure as the original 2. Export out comma or tab delimited, then use MARCEdit to covert this into a valid marc file. 3. Export the sheet containing multiple copies also as comma or tab delimited, use Marcedit to generate a second marc file, this one now contains the muliple copies 4. Import the first file into Koha. 5. After the import of the first file and INDEXING, import the 2nd file, creating an appropriate match criteria to make sure that only the items information would now be imported sisce it should find matching BIBS. Hello all, Please use the state-owned rail company website http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/ which will sell tickets to people abroad, Thanks everyone for your tips and suggestions. I am so happy with the help fron the community. I am arriving heathrow in the late afternoon of 4th June and is planning to travel on the Caledonia sleeper if possible. Eastcoast does not seem to have train traveling overnight. If I don't get a booking (Scotrail I think), I will have to use Eastcoast the morning of 5th June which means I will probably miss the opening sessions though I hope not. Cheers. [Koha] Kohacon 12 - Invitation letter
Hello, I think this should be directed to MJ Ray and KohaCon12 organizers. I have some users of Koha in Nigeria, showing interest in attending KohaCon12 in Edinburgh. However, they do require a letter of invitation, to present to their institution and the embassy. I guess the letter should just state the conference date(s), venue and the fact that it is a free conference but participants will have to sort out feeding/accommodation/visa by themselves. Is it possible for the conference organizers to do something about this? Regards. But make a backup of your present koha-httpd.conf file before replacing just in case. Then restart apache with the command /etc/init.d/apache2 restart or reboot your system. Hello Ann, For the libraries I set up, I use itemtypes rather than ccode. I make sure 942$c is turned on in the frameworks to catalogue ebooks, websites etc and choose the proper itemtype. The nub of the problem is that if they don't have attached items you cannot enter item types and ccodes, however I don't want to assign barcodes. Are there hidden snags if you have items without barcodes? What happens at stocktake when you have no actual item to stocktake? Is there a better way to do this? I have used item types to assign borrower privileges and ccodes as search points and I am just about to move from 3.2 to 3.4. Re: [Koha] Fw: Re: OPACBaseURL
Hi Deepak,There are two different web interfaces or sites in Koha. The staff client and the OPAC. The URL you have there is for the staff client and not the OPAC. Sometimes the OPAC may be at :8000 but you can check what port it is on by looking through your apache config files or the koha conf file usually somewhere in etc/kohaOlugbenga Adara Mobile: 234 (0) 8033220288 Home: 234 (2) 8721720 Skype: gbengaadara Blog: http://gbengaadara.blogspot.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/gbengaadara Profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/gbengaadara--- On Thu, 9/1/11, Deepak Bhatia deepak.bha...@nechclst.in wrote:From: Deepak Bhatia deepak.bha...@nechclst.inSubject: Re: [Koha] Fw: Re: OPACBaseURLTo: "Olugbenga Adara" gbengaad...@yahoo.comCc: koha@lists.katipo.co.nzDate: Thursday, September 1, 2011, 12:28 PM Hi Thanks for your reply. [Koha] Upgrading Issues
Hello all, I am in the process of upgrading an installation from 3.0.to 3.4. Because this particular install was first installed as 2.2.9 nozebra and later upgraded to 3.0 nozebra, certain koha to Marc relationships are not the same as those in a default 3.2 or 3.4 install. Specifically rather than 999$c as biblionumber, it is 090$c, bibliitemnumber is 090$d rather than 999$d while itemnumber is 952$v rather than 952$9. Also the Permanent location is 952$d rather than 952$a. This has not allowed zebra searches to work. Now I thought of exporting out the Marc records, using marcedit to correct the Marc data and reimporting the records into koha using the title as a match point. I believe Koha should then retain the item number as we do not want to lose the issues record. The other way I am thinking of is to change the melm entries in record.abs, but I think this has to be repeated for every future upgrade. Does anyone have any advice for the best way to handle this issue? Thanks a lot. Hello Prajeesh, Anyone is using KOHA with barcode. Is it possible. Any additional software needed. Tell me the experience. Any problems occured during the implementation. If you mean the barcode reader hardware, i guess its just plug and play on the client computer in my experience. If you mean printing barcodes, yes Koha supports printing of barcodes. If you are more comfortable with some other software, you could just connect to the Koha database and print out the barcodes you want. Re: [Koha] Secure 856u
Hello Jonson, I am not sure that what you want is possible with Koha. In a similar circumstance, what I did was to upload the pdf files into a document manager component in Joomla CMS and then put the url for the document in Koha's 856u. So when you click on it in OPAC, it opens a new window in Joomla telling you that you must login to access the document. This of course means you duplicate your users in Joomla. A solution which I thought of but has not tried is to upload the files into a directory protected by apache's htaccess file which authenticate to an LDAP Server. Then also have Koha authenticate to the same LDAP server. That way you wont have to bother about synchronizing users between Koha and Joomla. My 2 cents!
