KR> High time KR's

2009-10-01 Thread laser...@juno.com
Old Blue was the high timer - never did get a firm figure on the hours
but it was over 2000. It's in the archives, what Dan arrived at.

Sparky's KR built by Bob Passmore has about 1400 hours and was the first
KR with DD's tricycle gear, Sparky recently told me. Also is one of the
only KR's that Jeannete has gone for a ride in, back in the day.

My KR-1½ (Ken Cottle's, finished in 1987) is almost at 1400 TT. My
recent trip of 5331 SM added 47 hours. It is a contender for the
highest-time KR, but you sure wouldn't know it to look at it. It has
held up extremely well over time. Top notch construction, finished with
Dietzler Durathane and being kept hangared throughout its life have all
played their part in keeping this still a new-looking plane.

I guess I am one of hardy few. I agree that I like the adventure and learning
aspect of the build. I have the Horizontal done. It came in at 18lbs. Is that
heavy? I know if I started over I could do better, lighter and faster.
Hopefully this will help as I move onto the fuselage. Now that the weather is
getting below triple digits I don't have to work in such tiny batches of epoxy.
I had a batch of micro heat up on me and I had to toss it. I was able to use a
few last bits of it patching door handle holes around the house.

This list is a great inspiration to keep at it.

General purpose Polyester or GP, is not as flexable as Vinylester or VE.
Epoxy is the best option, but VE will work, but I would not use GP for a
tank. This information is from a guy who has made several tanks for
automobiles.

KR> KRII For Sale

2009-10-01 Thread Steve
Hello All,

I'm having to put my KR2 up for sale due to recent health problems that are
going to prevent me from flying. The plane had 100 hours of air time before
it was ground looped. Myself and a retired A have been working on the
repairs which include minor cowling damage and a cracked canopy. We bought
a new engine and took the front landing gear off to convert it to tricycle
configuration but have not removed the tail wheel set up. The project comes
with everything to get the plane back in the air including the following:

New Revmaster 2100 Engine

Two wood props / Aluminum spinner

Revmaster Engine mount

Two canopies plus the original one

Two sets of upper and lower engine cowls

8 Gal Aluminum Wing tank with all fittings and electric fuel pump

A set of flaps and hardware to install them

New upholstered seats and side covers with pockets

Landing lights (wiring already in the wings)

All avionics- including Narco Transponder, Radio, certified Attitude
Indicator, Turn/Slip Indicator, Altimeter, Air speed, Suction, Tach, plus
all engine related gages.

Two headsets with dual intercom

All fiberglass, Carbon fiber, epoxy, and misc. fillers to complete the
repairs.

I'm asking $4900 obo for the whole lot. (The new engine is worth $5000 and
the extra instruments and parts are worth another $2000 as is).

I will throw in a Samsung Ultra Q Tablet computer with Electronic Hard
drive for and Extra $500. It is dash or yoke mountable and has the free APIC
Fight Software but can handle any flight software. (I paid $1500)

The Plane is in Escondido, CA. (North San Diego) and you can see it on
http://talkdocskr2project.blogspot.com/

You can e-mail me with any questions at talkdo...@sbcglobal.net

Thanks,

Steve Renfeldt

KR> KRSuper2 Builder

2009-10-01 Thread Dave McCauley
Nice to see some interest in this machine.

There are a hardy few of us following in Scott Watts footsteps and having
fun figuring out how to build a brand new design. Remember, the reason
we’re “home builders” is because we like the challenge of actually creating
an airplane ourselves.

I’m having a blast and learning new techniques almost every day. I haven’t
taken the time add up my spending so far but it’s been pretty modest. Foam,
epoxy and fiberglass are pretty easy to work with, about on par with wood so
it will take me about as long to build as a KR2S.

I live in Minnesota (50º out right now) so I work in my garage during the
warm months and do small stuff in my basement over the winter (I’ve just
finished moving downstairs). The main fuselage and horizontal stabilizer
are done. I hope to have the wing ribs finished by spring and will build
the main spar once I can get back in the garage.

Look at Scott’s web site to see more about the plane.

If you are going to go through all that... better a Glassair III RG or FG
