I've seen the "official" KR3 amphibian drawings, but I suspect there was a
previous "KR3" version that was a twin retract. See
http://www.krnet.org/misc/kr3_twin.pdf . The handwriting looks familiar.

I don't recall ever having said (or thought) anything like the KRnet list
was dedicated only to KR2s. I have no idea where that idea came from.

I do know I'm tired of having to correct people who are bent on dragging
politics, religion, nationalism, and other stuff into conversation. These
topics tend to divide people rather than unite them. I suspect most of us
can agree that building and flying KRs is a good thing, and hope that we can

leave it at that. Everytime one of these post-a-thon things erupts, 2 or 3
people unsubscribe from the list. We've lost some very good contributors
who simply don't have the will or time to sift through all the useless junk
emails to find the few gold nuggets.

Another (of my many peaves) is people who reply to messages and don't bother

to remove most of the previous post. There's a very good description of why

this needs to be done at http://www.krnet.org/info.html . For those who are

too lazy to click on that link, the net rules are presented below. Please
take two minutes and read them all...

KRNetiquette
We have a few folks who feel compelled to comment on just about every post
made, and I can only be thankful that all 600 of us don't do that, or we'd
be wading through several thousand emails a day! Please be considerate of
your fellow KRNetHeads. A few of us would do well to heed the following
advice:

1) Think long and hard before you publicly flame somebody on this list. This

list may not be like others you've been on. We don't do that here, period.
If you have a personal problem with another lister, you need to address it
off the list and spare the rest of us your angst. If you disagree with
something somebody else posted, you can disagree in a nice manner without
getting all bent out of shape. Just point out your side of the discussion
and let others be the judge. Public flaming and superfluous bad language
will not be tolerated.

2) When replying to a post, delete everything except one or two key
sentences from the previous post. It's really ridiculous to have to search
thru 3 or 4 pages of stuff to find down at the bottom where some clown wrote

"me too". Carrying all that useless baggage around from previous posts also
gives people fits when searching the archives later, as they end up getting
10 hits for the same message.

3) Conversely, at least put SOMETHING in the post to remind us what you're
replying to. A post like "yeah, that's how I did mine and it works great"
doesn't mean a thing if you don't know what the guy's talking about, so
please cut and paste some of what you're replying to above your comments.

4) Carefully consider whether or not you even need to reply to a post.
Saying "me too", or "I don't know" doesn't contribute to the thread, it just

makes the list more bothersome. If you don't know what you're talking about,

maybe you should be listening, rather than talking. There are FEW people who

know everything about everything. Try to stick to things you KNOW about, and

let others answer the rest.

5) Try to write "keeper" posts if you're the expert on something. Cover the
whole issue, answer all possible questions, address both sides of an issue,
and make it a post that others will want to save or print out and keep.
Those are the gems that we all search for on KRNet.

6) Put your email address in your signature to make emailing others "offnet"

easier. If we all had our addresses at the bottom of our posts, it would be
far easier to "email direct". If it's blue just click on it, if it's not,
cut it and paste it into the "To" box. If throwing your email address out on

the internet makes you nervous (and it should), camoflage it a little by
replacing the @ symbol with "at", or something similar, so that bot crawlers

won't know what to do with it.

7) If you don't have anything subtantial to say, please don't post anything.

This is a KR list, and as such, really needs to stay focused on KRs, or at
least airplanes. With over 600 people on the list, if we all decided to say
something every day we'd have a real problem. Ask yourself "do 600 people
really need to see this, or are 600 people going to be annoyed by this?"
Personally, my time is pretty precious to me, and I hate to waste it reading

inane email. And is it something that you could find somewhere else?

8) Don't send

The 0-200 will certainly fit the mount but I doubt if you're lucky
enough to have the bolt hole spacing fit the firewall side and then
the distance from firewall to engine may not be correct for your
bird. You would also have to remove the nosewheel mount metal from
the mount and , without looking, I don't know if that will weaken the
mount or not. I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope of it working. Of
course, that's my guess without seeing the mount or taking any dimensions.

It's not necessary to have a "backing plate" as elaborate as the
Cessna type. A reinforced mounting hole that slips over the axle on
the outside and a rectangular plate of some type, say a 2" by
whatever length works with a couple bends to attach the inside. You
can bolt the plates, one going forward and one to the rear, to the
axle mounting bolts. Shape the straps in whatever way necessary to
give you a small flat plate area on the other end to run an attach
screw through to a blind nut on the inside of the plate. We're
talking something like a "Z" shape here. Be creative and make it
work for you size pants. Light metal will work, certainly no thicker
than 1/8" aluminum. That should be good to 200mph. :-)

Does anyone have some nice detailed pictures of how they did their wheel pants
specific to the main gear. Maybe if you know which completed or under
construction sites on the KRnet lists.

I have started and stopped the completion of my main wheel pant installation
mostly because I do not know if I should or should not constuct a backing plate
assembly on the gear leg side of the installation.

My wheel pants have the gear leg fairing mating assembly and the actual wheel
pants Re: the Tom Crawford assembly on his KR and I once took detailed pictures
of his at Sun N Fun years ago.

Has anyone out there had good luck with just mating the two assemblies via
epoxing nuts to the inside of the pant, and bolting the gear leg fairing to the
pant and associated bolt through on the outside center of the pant to the axle?

Am I making sense here? Or is it best to build an alum backing plate re: the
Cessna wheel pant type assembly?

My concern is wheel pant flex slash ending up breaking off on landing slash ???

It was interesting when we were cleaning out the rest of Rand Robinson's
inventory to see some of the items we came across. Complete plans, drawing
and info packs for the KR-100, hubs from Ken's ground adjustable props and a
couple electric variable pitch props they were working on. There is so much
history and parts that most thought had disappeared or didn't even know
about. We are keeping as much of it alive as possible but certain things
(IE; KR-3) will not be released per our agreement with Jeanette. We came
across several items that were used or discontinued that some might still
want so we added a clearance section to our website. Not everything is there
but it is a good start.

KR> Slick finish.

2010-02-17 Thread Dene Collett
Hi Mike
Over here we have been using the dry micro method over the layup for the
construction of all Whisper motorglider wings, stabilizers and rudders. The
surface is covered in a light "sacrificial layer of glass to cover any gaps
in the weave of the heavier biaxial structural layer underneath. we then
pour on a generous amount of dry micro and lightly massage it into the weave
of the top layer. This goes a long way to eliminating pinholes and after
sanding the wing down with a "longboard" untill roughly halfway through the
sacrificial layer an 8m long wing can be faired to final coat stage with
less than 1kg of resin/micro mix.

Good Grief!

Why is there all this inane discussion, about ELTs or any other
regulations?

It's such a simple procedure to e-mail the FAA.

Geeez . . . . . . . . .

An ELT, in my opinion, is the same type of 'insurance'
as motorcycle helmets on road machines and shoulder
harnesses & roll-over reinforcements in aircraft.

I've always figgered that anyone stooopid enough to do without these cheap
but very effective forms of protection deserves to die. Period.

Darwin referred to the survival of the fittest.
Me dear sainted Mother referred to it as, "Purification of the gene pool."

Geez . . . . . . . .

2010-02-17 Thread kleirf...@ecomail.org
I was wondering if a Cessna 150 motor mount would work to put an 0-200 on a
KR-2?

Let's not forget that KRnet is a forum for building and flying KRs.  When we
deviate too far from that and start ranting on other issues, people start
unsubscribing because they came here to learn about KRs.  It might be a good
time to mention the KRnet list rules, which are listed at
http://www.krnet.org:80/info.html which many of you apparently haven't read
yet...
