KR> Airventure cup race

2010-07-14 Thread Mark Langford
OK, it looks like my fuel tank is sealed up and doesn't leak, and the wings
should go back on the plane late this weekend, so I should be able to make the
Airventure Cup race. I was on the fence about this and my wife finally said
"you only live once, you'll love it", so I'm in. At least Jeff Lange will have
somebody to race in the Sportsman class this year. Judging by his previous
speeds, it will be close!

So for those folks who volunteered to help defray costs, you are welcome to
throw it in my Paypal account (account name n5...@hiwaay.net ), or email me for
my home address if you want to mail a check. It cost $275 to enter, and the
fuel for the race alone will be another $75 or so. There's no pressure, and I
don't expect anybody in particular to contribute, but if you'd like to, I won't
turn it down.

Thanks,

Mark Langford

KR> KR2 boat up for grabs

2010-07-14 Thread Mark Langford
Builders,

I have a KR2 boat that I took off Larry Flesner's hands last month. It was in
his way and he wanted to see it put to some good use, so I was going to saw it
up for the wooden spars and mahogany plywood material. But it's occured to me
that the best utilization of this thing is to use it as a mockup and go-by for
somebody building a KR2S. There's a lot of ambiguity in the plans that leads to
much head scratching and deliberation, but to have a pre-built boat just
sitting in the corner (or even out in the back yard) would be a big head start
to a builder. Another very handy function is as a mockup to help the builder
determine how wide he needs to make his version, how much leg room, panel and
canopy height, and all of those ergonomic details that are difficult to
visualize from thin air. Mike Sylvester did this, he'd probably agree that it
was useful.

The construction of this boat is pretty decent, but it's a KR2, not a KR2S.
The stub wings and tail surfaces are already foamed and covered with a very
rough layer of Dynel, so that's another reason I wouldn't try to reclaim the
thing and finish building it. The Dynel dates it as about 30 years old. The
center stick is installed and the cables are run, so moving the stick around
results in aileron bellcranks rotating and the elevator moving. The stick is
an interesting thing incorporating a bearing, and seems to work fine. From a
hardware standpoint, that's about all that's in this thing.

I should probably post photos of this thing but I'm in a real rush to finish my
plane up, and would rather not spend the time. And for the purposes of
mockups/go-bys, you shouldn't care what it looks like anyway. I'd rather
provide some use for this thing to a builder, rather than just saw it up for a
little wood.

It's in Huntsville, Alabama (northeastern corner of the state), and it can be
picked up anytime, the sooner the better.I brought it down on the back of a
little Ford Explorer, so it doesn't take much of a truck or trailer to move it.
If nobody claims it in the next two or three weeks, I won't feel bad about
sawing it up for the wood...

KR> builders in the south sound area

2010-07-14 Thread rdrace...@aol.com

KR-listers,

I just got back on the list after a year or so of not seeing all the posts due
to Iraq deployments. I am in the area south of the Pugent Sound in WA, near
Puyallup, and recall from before that there was at least one builder out here
who was active on the list. I think his name was John Gotschall, but I have
lost his phone number and the email address I had for him no longer works. If
anyone has a phone number or email for him or any other builders in this area,
please send them to me offline at rdrace...@aol.com

I need to do some repair work on my airplane and will be needing expert advice,
as well as morale support, once I get started so you will probably here more
from me then. Before I get started if any one has personal information,
photos, etc. on repairing damage done by landing hard on the original plans
built retractable landing gear, I could use it. Send it to me offline at
rdrace...@aol.com

thanks,

Todd Thelin

Too bad this couldn't be put somewhere with a webcam in it so folks could log
on and see the sections. Realtors do this with houses for sale. Beyond my
paygrade though.

KR> KR-2 boat and foam

2010-07-14 Thread Ed Janssen
KR builders,

I also have a KR-2 boat and wing spars (not installed) plus enough foam (I'm
told) to build the wings. The foam is still in the Wicks packaging. Nothing
else included with the project - no plans, no hardware, no gear, - nothing
else. It's basically free for the asking, but you gotta pick it up. I'm
located near Taylorville, IL., which is a few miles southeast of Springfield.
If you wish to make a donation to the KR Gathering fund, that would be nice.
I'll pass it on to whomever is in charge of the fund.

I have a picture of the boat that I could e-mail to anyone interested. No
phone calls please. E-mail me at ejanssen"at"chipsnet.com.

I am interested in the foam. If it is still in the shipping containers I would
be happy to pick up the shipping if you would be willing to drop it off at your
local fedex.

Thanks
