KR> Year progress update

Nice work Stef. I'll be interested to see your progress with the BMW - the
R1200 is on my list of possible engines. Good luck.

Cheers,

Tony

Hi KR friends.
I can tell you all that I am happy with the progress of this year. We made the
wheel fairings inclusive the attaching brackets. Made the lower stabilo
fairings, Sended en painted the lower side of the KR( fuselage, stubs and
stabilizer) Made the pitot tubes and the tubes for the fuel vent. And just
finished the wing extensions with the wing tips. In the mean time I am bussy
with one of the KR guys (No names) to get an approval for the engine. We
planned a 110 HP engine. Hopefully it is gonne be the BMW R1200GS. So also
bussy with the prop, in flight adjustable or not, ect ect. Next year we planned
to get the wings finished (spayed and balanced) so the are at the right
weight. Finish the interior so we can do an weight an balance, and Yes??..than
we can start with the engine. This week I did a major update at our website so
have a look over there. If you have any doubt or questions?.let me know.
Last thing to tell you is have a good new years party, and a happy 2014!

KR> Year progress update

The center tank can handle 20 liters so it brings the total at 60 ltrs.

Stef.
Well done on your web page. That looks a VERY sturdy duel control system

I see you only have 60 L of fuel, is that correct?. That seems a small
amount or a 110hp engine.

All the best, keep up the great work.

KR> 1992 KR 2 on tri-gear 90% complete $5500

2013-12-28 Thread Mark Langford
Lee Van Dyke wrote:

Probably so, but Galen's description leaves a lot of questions to be
answered. For example is the carb a POSa? Is the engine a home brew or
something without extra front bearing area, or is a higher quality
installation like a GPASC Force One or Revmaster? Although we all assume
the gear is Diehl, Bill Clapp once sold a set of home brewed gear to a guy
in Australia as "KR gear", which was heavy, hideous, and of dubious
engineering quality. [To be fair, it came on the project from which his
airplane was derived, and then he sold it to the Aussie rather than use it
himself]. Are the fuselage and wings a good build quality, already sanded,
prepped, and "really" ready for paint? "Needs paint" may mean it's really
ready for paint, but there's a lot of room between the two, and I've seen
some pretty bad quality finished KRs before.

I'm not picking on Galen at all...his may very well be a masterpiece and a
steal...I've seen plenty of them float by on KRnet. I'm just saying that
the assembly of $8000 in parts is not always worth the sum of the parts! If
nothing else, I'm saying that a few pictures are worth several thousand
words, but even just a few more words would be helpful.

This is an example of the problem with many KR messages...a few words dashed
off in a sentence or two that leave many questions unanswered, and probably
some worthy KR projects sent to the dump as a result...

KR> 1992 KR 2 on tri-gear 90% complete $5500

2013-12-28 Thread Kenneth Wiltrout
It's amazing what we put into our KR's and what others think they are worth. I
have about 23K in mine and on several occasions I offered to sell it. I was
amazed at what some folks thought was a fair offer, not to mention I have 2000
hrs of labor that I would be giving away. Needless to say I still have N6399U
and enjoy flying it every season.

Good advise Mark. Sometimes our want of an airplane can lead us down
the road to financial misfortune. I've seen projects and flying KR's
that I wouldn't take home or fly if the owner paid ME. Sellers
should do their best to qualify what they are selling and buyers
should approach a sale with the attitude of "mistakes could be
fatal". If you are looking to purchase a KR an not familiar with the
design, find someone who is and ask for their help. When I began
with a "just started" project I had to totally remove the entire
firewall and trash the spars.I ended up with a three sided, open
ended boat, with additional building material, that I probably paid
too much for. There are good projects and good deals out there. Just
take the time to know what you're getting. Caveat
emptor...

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

KR> workbenche ideas

2013-12-28 Thread John Backer
For anyone looking to build workbenches this year I would suggest going to
Google and entering (Ron Paulk workbench) and look at the images. Most of
us who build airplanes also build other things and these benches have some
great ideas incorporated into them.

I hope all of you have a great year of building and flying.

I agree with everything said.Airplane projects are not for the thrift
minded person.Build the plane you want, but if you want to save money I
would suggest a bank account.Tommy W.

KR> 1992 KR 2 on tri-gear 90% complete $5500

2013-12-28 Thread John
Yeah... my project - I've thought of selling many times...
and now the wife is moving her dog grooming business downstairs
Lots of new clutter and lack of space... I can't afford a hanger- then
there's
the whole health thing...
Bottom line, there's no way I'll ever finish it or sell it.
For info, it's 85-90% done, got a Subaru EA-81 with a 10 year old belt
on the re-drive. The engine is rebuilt using NSI 'hot' cam - turbo charged.
dual ignition, belly mounted radiator al la P51 - panel is complete, but
transponder and radio seem to be malfuntioning - who knows why...
But it does start and run nicely. Fuselage is painted, wings not.
The wife would sure like the space.
Anybody want to make me an offer?
Anybody want to guess what it's worth?
probably $20K into it, Hah!??!@
