KR> 2014 KR Gathering
Alrighty Guys,I arrived home by air at 3 pm eastern time. A few of the sististics are (not exact as I am just figguring them out now) About 5000 miles flown over a five day period. 12 airports and 8 of them new to me. 36 hours in the air. longest leg about 4 hours or nearly 600 miles. About 170 gals of fuel burned. average fuel burn about 4.7 gal per hour. average ground speed 139mph. I did not see a tail wind anywhere in all of this flying. I think I deserve a little bit of tail winds once in a whaile. I landed safely at home but it seemed like I was still in Kansas as the wind was 18 g to 24 and I waited til I got home to get pushed of the taxi way into the grass by a gust of wind.I had a great time,Joe Horton The End of the Made-In-China Era The impossible but real technology that could make you impossibly rich. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/540e1a5dcad901a5d4535st04duc
KR> 2014 KR Gathering
Joe, I downloaded my Garmin data as well and was wishing I had your speed. My worst leg average due to headwinds was 75 mph during my start off leg (250 miles) from Kansas City to Newton KS on Thursday morning! My top leg speed was 125 mph. My average for the whole trip was about 110-115 mph. Yes, those winds sucked! It was kind of depressing cruising at 9500 feet most of the trip with a misery looking 110 mph indicated and little better showing on the ground speed. Best leg was my last one heading home. I think the horse smelled the stable and finally got some of her gallop back while cruising at only 5500 feet. 14 hours Hobbs time from Kansas City to Chino, 12 hours back. 26 hours total. Approx 2400 statute miles. Great time at the Gathering as usual! But I am thinking I'm probably going commercial air to Oregon next year. It is at least another 300 miles of flying for me each way. If I go commercial I'll have time to drink more root beer than I did this year. I think I've proved it can be done with my airplane, and could do it again if needed. KR> Home Again
I got back home about midnight after my layover in Denver got delayed. As I gaze out my kitchen window at my back yard, the snow is gently falling, and 2 inches are on the ground. I find it hard to believe I was sweating in 100 degree heat surrounded by KR's only a short while ago. Was it all just a dream..? Was there really a KR there from Shenington, Oxfordshire, UK flown by another Colin.? Great job Steve, Marc, Kiku, and Eric. Good to see everybody that could make it. I hope to see you all in Oregon for 2015. KR> They're off!
Yes it was an excellent Gathering. I also enjoyed the workshops and the knowledge. But the best thing was the motivation from seeing all the other KR's. I want to be one of those guys who flies his plane cross country at the drop of a hat. My goal is to fly myself to Oregon. Maybe it's not doable, but I will try. Thanks to Steve for hosting but mostly to the other guys for motivation. Made it back t Colorado around 1:30 Chino time. Great time and thanks again to Steve for putting all together. I have talked to Bob Said who couldn't make it due to a prop strike. He has rented a u-haul to get his plane in St. George Ut. and bring it home. He wants to check the crank be for he flies it again. Always a good idea. KR> update
Hi everyone, I made my final landing for the day in mid Arknesaw. Still 960 miles from home. The weather was perfect all day, but the wind never did give any help. But not having a head wind at least ground speed and true air speed were the same. If I'm not foggged in in the morning I should be able to do one more stop and be home sometime mid afternoon.
