KR> BID definition
Mike, BID is a short-hand call-out for Bi-directional fiber glass cloth; approximately the same number of fiber strands crossing each other at 90 degrees in the woven cloth. (Lots of weave patterns for fiber glass cloth on the market: plain weave, Crow Foot, Satin weave, etc. The Aircraft Spruce catalog has a good reference for the home builder.) The BID will have approximately the same strength and stiffness in 90 degree directions. Most plans call for the BID to be applied at 45-degrees fabric orientation to the main spar to enhance torsional strength of the wing. The Diehl wing skins use this same 45-degree fabric orientation when they are constructed at the factory. Sid Wood Tri-gear KR-2 N6242 Mechanicsville, MD, USA > "The Diehl wing skins are a sandwich with inner and outer layers of 2 BID on a foam core. I have talked with other builders that have used the Diehl skins and not used the spar extensions; they just use the rather stiff skin as a monocoque stressed skin. The Diehl skins extend the horizontal stabilizer and elevator span 3-inches each side for an increase of 6 inches more than the KR-2 plans." Thanks for posting that info on the Diehl tailfeathers & skins. I never knew the stabilizer had three inches extra. Nor do I know what BID is . . . but I can Google fu and find out. Whatever it is it sure holds up well. They literally still look like new after thirty years, tops and bottoms. Whatever BID is, it's good stuff. Mike KSEE

KR> I can get spoiled flying up here.
I took a load of Kubota tractors out to Medford Oregon this week. Before my next load I had to take a 34-hour break. So I decided to go fly. I went up to Grants Pass Or. K3S8. to rent a 172. The instructor and I flew out to Brooking Or. KBOK Then down the coast to Crescent City Ca.KCEC then back to Grants Pass.?On the way out to Brooking. We flew though Canyons to the coast. I haven't done that since Alaska. ?From Brooking to Crescent. We flew 500 ft of the ocean along the coast. That was fun flying around the big rocks. ?On the way back I got some hood time. When we were almost back. I told Walt I really enjoyed the flight and wanted to get checked out. So at the end we did some slow flight and a couple of stalls then landed.?I love taking friends and Young Eagles up and fly pass the Gateway Arch. But up hear is something special. Dan P. and John B. and everyone else who's up hear. You guys have it great up hear.Ray, I can add California to my list. : ) Paul ViskBelleville Il?618 406 4705 Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S? 6.

Hey Mark With figures like that, a lovely looking KR plus a strip you can basically call your own, I reckon I'd be putting that other aircraft of yours to bed and returning the engine to you know who... there's too much flying for you to be done out there as it is :-) I noticed the die off in the trees off the bottom end of the runway there and imagine that must be due to the emergency fuel dump after your forced landing a while back Cheers John John Martindale 29 Jane Circuit Toormina NSW 2452 Australia ph:61 2 6658 4767 m:0403 432179 email:john_martindale at bigpond.com web site: -Original Message- From: KRnet [mailto:krnet-bounces at list.krnet.org] On Behalf Of Mark Langford via KRnet Sent: Friday, 18 March 2016 1:44 PM To: KRnet Cc: Mark Langford Subject: KR> Wednesday KR2 flight KRnetHeads, Here's a quick report on a snip
