I found it good stuff. Use credit card to squeegee first coat to fill
holes. Roll or spray several thin coats after that. Like they say, a
thick coat is a waist of time.

Given the crafty exchange I'm compelled to provide some context and possibly
interpret this subtle interchange of words.
I may not be able to tell you the various tinsel strengths of any given brand
of resin due to the covalent bonding at different temperatures or the various
coefficients of lift for the various (very creative) wing tips used on many of
the KR aircraft (actually I can if given some time and data) ... but I can tell
you something about the "California thing." ? Many of you know that California
has some of the harshest anti small business policy in the nation burdening
them with high taxes, land costs, environmental costs, metropolis costs,
targeted enforcement etc..etc..?? The result is higher production and material
costs.. which in this group results in the notion that parts are "expensive"
and that the seller is an oger.

It sounds like the "California thing" comment appears to be directed at NVAero
which deals solely in market of? KR parts and plan in So. Cal. There appears to
be a misconception aimed at "choking" and maligning the ONLY full featured part
time KR parts resource there is.? This is ironic given that most of the KR
folks I've met appear to have a desire for this community to thrive. Maligning
NVAero seems contrary to our interests.?

I can tell you from my experience that kit or scratch building seemed ominous
and unreachable just a few years ago. For someone generating the intestinal
fortitude and shelling out the money to buy prefabricated parts knowing that
he/she is likely to abandon the KR building effort before finishing creates a
barrier for the KR community as a whole. Steve Glover ... and I can say this
because I've watched him agonize over the the last 5 years or so ... has spent
an estimated $75K to $100K of his own money to perpetuate the KR kit and plans
industry. Although he has many innovations to make the KR better, he refrains
from making the KR more difficult to build.? Steve has not shown any intentions
to make profit, his primary interest? being that the business would simply
support the cost of operations. KR? part sales fall way short of sustaining
business operations.? Even with volunteers, he literally does not make enough
to break even, thus causing him to spend his own time and money to keep the
option? to buy a kit open for would be novice builders.?? In short, he spends
hours of his own time directing gratuitous labor (some of that my own volunteer
time) away from his real businesses that could make profit.?? He is there every
weekend and often late at night during the week.

So those of you who have a poor image of "California things" consider
this:? Although there is a cost to the buyer,? KR parts and plans are a
profitless venture, when you consider high hangar costs, storage of molds, high
composite costs, high sourced out manufacturing costs etc etc. at minimum
this is true in? California.? There is not enough demand to even recover the
costs in volume sales because relatively speaking, few people are buying KR's
kits. ? For the sales that do occur at NVAero, Steve Glover spend his own time
manufacturing those parts to high quality specifications. As a volunteer with
the intent on learn and build better aircraft I have botched up a few parts
regrettably at Steve's expense.? (I did however get the funny look from him).
And while it may be true that NVAero has had some delays, they are inherent to
the need to tend to money making ventures so that the KR Kit and parts option
continues to be available.??

There... I said it I hope this helps some of you understand the
"California thing" from a California person.

2016-08-10 Thread Jeff Scott

Sorry, this post should have had the subject label changed to RST Engineering

While I know you want to receive this stuff right away, keep in mind you are
dealing with a small business that is a one man show, and that you ordered just
as they were ramping up for Oshkosh, then had to travel from California to
Oshkosh (likely in a camper), then was at Oshkosh for at least a week, then is
traveling back home again and trying to pick up the pieces. Maybe... Just
maybe, he is throwing in a few days of vacation on the way home from Oshkosh to
try to get his head back on straight after the rush of orders taken at Oshkosh.
It's not a huge surprise to me that he hasn't replied to an email, nor is it a
surprise that nothing was shipped in the last 3 weeks. Jim Weir also writes a
monthly column for "Kitplanes" and probably needs to get another column out the
door to meet the oshkosh show report deadline, so I don't think he has flown
the coop. But I do think he is a really busy man and you have caught him at the
peak of his busiest time of year.

I would guess he should be back home again this week and doing business again.
This is a one man show business that has been around for a long time and is
well known in the pilot community. A little patience will probably go a long
ways.

KR> Gathering update

2016-08-10 Thread Larry Flesner

Just one more month till the Gathering at Mt.Vernon. Anyone wanting
a shirt or hat for this years Gathering will need to get the order in
by the cutoff date of August 20, just 10 days from now. I was much
more flexible in the past but my supplier (my next door neighbor) is
easing in to retirement and my options are limited. Also, unlike
past years, I will not be taking orders at the Gathering and mailing
shirts / hats. I will have a few extra of common sizes at the
Gathering but can't guarantee having a hat or shirt your size unless
you pre-order. If you order a hat / shirt and are unable to attend
the Gathering, I will sell your order at the Gathering. Sorry to get
so persnickety in my old age but nine years of tracking / shipping/
etc. orders for hats and shirts outside the Gathering dates has
proven not to be worth my time and effort.

So, if you want a hat or shirt, order (pre-register
at http://www.bouyea.net/KRGathering/ ) by August 20 or send me an
e-mail ( flesner at frontier.com ) with shirt size by August 20.

John, if possible, plan to have all registrations posted on the 20th
and I will use that as a final count. Thanks...

ship them them alot faster.?The issues I have for ANY company is that they take
your money and don't comuicate with you when there is a unreasonable delay. ?I
understand things can held up or not under there control. But when this happens
the company has a responsibility to keep their customers informed.?
Again just my opinion.?Excuse my grammar. ?I'm not a very good writer.?

KR> Small Vendors and tasteless remarks

2016-08-10 Thread Chris Kinnaman
It's not just a Southern California thing. As a small business owner
serving the E-AB community, I can tell you there are very few vendors in
my boat who are doing their aviation stuff as their only "job" - and I
believe only a very few are making any money beyond covering costs. The
majority are operating at a loss, investing money earned from other work
to keep the av activities alive. I promise you this: if customers had to
pay for items with the costs of the labor of the one-person operation
factored in at rate that was reasonable and accurate, they would be
yelling that they couldn't afford it. If you want to save money and have
your components right at hand, on your schedule, make them yourself.
It's not a mystery. But figure out how much your own time is worth per
hour and include that in your costs.

KR> KRnet Digest, Vol 4, Issue 208

2016-08-10 Thread Doran Jaffas
That makes sense but a recording stating such when one calls would be good.
I had sort of the same issue with a gun I sent in that had me really
concerned.
Patience goes a long way but customer service stating a particular reason
for delays even on a recording does too.

KRNetters,

Is there anybody in the lower 48 intending to install a foil antenna under some
fiberglass surface? I tried to order a kit from RST Engineering (priced $29)
but got rejected as non-US PayPal account... This kit is good for 6 antennas
and we may share it with a fellow builder, in case somebody is interested.
