KR> 2Si 2-stroke engine

2016-12-09 Thread Oscar Zuniga
Don;

The 3-cylinder 2Si 2-stroke was the featured engine for the "Lightning Bug"
composite 1-place homebuilt. A zippy little plane, you can Google it, but the
problem is that the 2-strokes are quite a bit lighter than any of the 4-strokes
that are typically employed on KRs so it would require a longer engine mount
and cowling for W Probably not as exaggerated as Mike Ladigo's turbine
engine powered KR, but longer than a VW or Corvair mount.

After considering the problem in greater detail and making some
drawings I'm thinking the solution is not that difficult. If you
clamp the castings back to back, drill each hole and insert a bolt as
you go to hold alignment, you can rotate the casting from the front
side of one wing the back side of the opposite wing and have the
holes match. Cancel the order on the cnc machine. Just don't try to
use the casting on the front and back of the same wing without
precision drilling.

If one wants to go to the trouble of drilling six holes (that's what
I have in mine) in each of two different castings (of dubious
similarity) so that they match PERFECTLY when reversed 180 degrees, I
guess it can be done. I'm just saying, for several reasons, that
kind of effort and accuracy is not necessary for our
purposes. Having seen my KR and others being built and flying, I'm
guessing that kind of accuracy is beyond the capabilities of many KR
builders anyway and thus is not a show stopper. If your casting
aren't reversible, don't worry about it , go to plan B. Do the best
you can and move on...

I wouldn't get too concerned on drilling the holes as:

A. you'll probably never going to swap them side to side and
B. If you do and the holes don't match (they'd probably have to be
cnc drilled to do so anyway when swapping side to side/ front to
back) just plug the old holes and move the brackets inboard or
outboard an inch or so. Try not to over complicate the building
process or it will never fly. :-)

KR> DIEHL LANDING GEAR LEGS

2016-12-09 Thread ol' weirdo
Would someone be kind enough to submit to the group or to me the size of
the blank one must have to cut out the Diehl landing gear legs. With the
Canadian dollar trading at 75 cent US the thought importing them just
doesn't exist. And there is a firm nearby that sells cutoffs.

Thanks
