Im seeing the archives are still down so maybe you guys can help me. I am
trying to get my elevator angles set what is a good degree of travel up and
down I'm fighting my creation at the moment I think it has to many adjustment
points so my next step is to zero one and try setting angles with the up and
down barrels.

No plywood on the fuselage. Foam center with two layers of glass on
the outside and one layer of glass on the inside.

Dennis asked for feedback and one of my several observations and
suggestions was to remove the brackets and cut lightening holes in
the ribs. Several other areas of minor overbuild but overall I can't
fault his workmanship.

ok no retracts, duh, shoulda gone back and looked. ideally I'd like
to build a tri-retract, original size KR1, with engine back against
the firewall as original, and with a normalizing turbocharger. the
main retracts are easy. the nose can swing back halfway into a center
pocket (I think). as to a small normalizing turbocharger, tight
squeeze and heat issues. which is why it would most likely be added
later, in a phase two.

point being, I am happy to see some added complexity is possible with
enough thought and skill!

Well I must say Dennis is building very different from what is normally
seen. The photos bring up a lot of questions. You may have mentioned it
before, but is the sides of this fuselage fiberglass instead of plywood? Also
are the rib to spar shelf brackets temporary? Neat canopy. I am thinking
this guy has built things other than airplanes before. Great that he is
building in a basement just like me!! Probably shouldn't have invited him
to this group as it may corrupt him. I like that he has done so much
without feedback, that he is building trike gear, and that he is building the
best KR. A KR1.

The folding wing is a one man process: remove the pins, pull the wing
panel outboard (it is spring loaded) and rotate it to the rear.

It will fly with a 2si 70 hp two cycle water cooled engine. The
builder is this far along in just 13 months and hopes to be flying by
midsummer. I'm pushing him to make Lee Summitt but that will be a
stretch so to those attending, this will be your last chance for any
trophies.

I encouraged Dennis to join the net so you may be able to e-mail him
direct in the near future. Just don't slow down his building.

KR> collectors item?

2017-01-02 Thread Larry Flesner via KRnet

I've spent the last few days of bad flying weather going through my
several tool boxes and culling and reorganizing all the wrenches,
sockets, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. I've concluded that a duplicate
of everything is sufficient and I culled the extra and donated to the
college students working line service, other builders, and
friends. During the process I came across one 1/4" drive 5/16" deep
well socket that was miss stamped at the factory. Something didn't
seem right and after looking it over for a bit I realized the socket
information was stamped on the wrong end. Socket info is normally
stamped on the drive end, not the socket end. I wonder if I've got a
collectors item here. After all, people pay money for potato chips
that look like Christ, seems they might like a miss stamped socket,
ya recon? Bids anyone??

The keyway is only there to force the pulley back onto the same
orientation after removal. This is so your timing marks don't get out
of whack after you remove and replace the hub. Finding an accurate TDC
is not as easy as you might think, without direct perpendicular access
to the piston crown. The screwdriver down the sparkplug hole isn't real
accurate.

The taper is what transfers the force from crank to hub...

KR> Happy New year!

2017-01-02 Thread Rudi Venter via KRnet
Happy New Year to all the KR'netters! May 2017 be filled with lots of safe
KR flights!

Unfortunately my New years flight was not in a KR as both my flying KR2's
are "down for maintenance", one needs new brakes and the other has an oil
leak in the oil cooler.

Operating from a 2400' runway that is 4800' high with DA often around 9-10
000' brakes are quite important

So my New Years flight was in a plane a bit like a KR1, just s bit slower!
Here she is:
