KR> inch

Just multiply that one liter with the specific gravity of oil or gas (it's
a number smaller than 1) and you got it.

Eduardo,
I don't own a plane but a KR2 with a 1600cc engine is marginal in my
opinion.
At your elevation (2820 meter) roughly about 9000 feet I believe you won't
be able to climb out of ground effect.
I feel you need a Corvair engine.

2008-10-12 Thread Joachim Saupe
Unfortunately, that attitude prevails here in the USA since most people
don't understand the simplicity of the metric system, where the meter is
the "yardstick", where a cube of 10cm x 10cm x 10cm has a volume of 1 liter
and when you fill this cube with water, it weighs 1 kilogramm.

Frank,
you are right! I just wanted to impress on Eduardo that a 1600cc Volkswagen
engine is definitely NOT suited for his elevation.
When I put pen to paper, his elevation is actually 9500 feet. Looking at
the map, within 50-100 miles he has peaks of 2+ feet. I don't know if
even a turbo'ed 2180 would do.

aircraft plans, most from the original source, but a couple online from
third parties after confirming they had not been previously used to build a
plane. When purchasing from the original designer, or the designer's heirs,
I'm often, no usually, very disappointed in the level of service. More than
once, I have had to call/email over and over, even threaten legal action,
just to receive the plans I have pre-paid for. In one case, I simply never
received them, but my check was cashed... Ironically, the plans I have
purchased or traded for through e-groups or Barnstormers have arrived
promptly, in excellent condition, as promised. I recently traded one of my
sets for another design and both of us simply gave each others word that we
would put them in the mail, provided each other with the confirmation
delivery number, and within a week, we both were proud owners of designs we
were now interested in.

there are companies out there who would be happy to take on the

KR> oil leak

2008-10-12 Thread Joachim Saupe
Joe,
from what I can recall, you want the oil temp above 212 deg. F once the
engine is warm. For the simple reason that if there is moisture (water)
contaminating the oil, temps above 212 will evaporate that moisture!
All others chime in here.

The wind will not effect the OAT reading of your sensor. Mount it to your

That's not an electro/mechanical relay, is it?
At 3000 rpm it would have to cycle at 50 Hz! I guess that's possible and
the contacts would wear just like an old fashioned ignition system.

Glenda,
great to see your progress!
For your canopy construction you're using two rods to pull the canopy in.
Will these rods be there permenantly? I can see that the rear rod will not
pose any problems since it is located behind the head area. What about the
one in the front?

David,
that's not a Dragonfly, according to the owner it's a Q 3!
As in Q1 or Q2, but this one has a tricycle (3)gear.
I talked to him briefly while he was there. Sorry, no name. He came over
because he heard about the KR meet.
Maybe somebody else here on the net got his name.

KR> Procedure to cover glass cloth on foam.

2008-10-12 Thread Joachim Saupe

1. Resin is less dense that fiberglass or any other cloth.
2. Therefore the cloth floats on top of the resin layer,

That does not make sense, the less dense material should be what floats!

i.e.: wood is less dense than water so it floats. Steel is denser than
water so it sinks.

Olympia Washington, 360-956-0347, offered to trade a "rebuilt" 0 time 583
for my Complete Geo Package I had listed on Barnstormers. What I got was a
email saying thanks for being honest and that the Geo is just as advertised
and how much he liked it. The 583 he sent me is junk. I have the pictures
and inspection letter by a Certified Rotax Service Center. If you are
buying or trading for a T-Bird with a Geo on it, DON'T!!!. He
told me he is trading the T-Bird and my Geo engine package for a KR on this
list. I tried to resolve it the easy way I offered to rebuild the 583
myself if he paid for the parts, only $1200.00 and he refused. I told him
to return my engine and he refused saying he is selling it. IF you are the
buyer stop the transaction. I have hired legal counsel and I will get my
engine back whether you bought it or not, it is considered stolen property.
Avoid this guy, if you have any doubts just email me and I will gladly send
you pictures of this "rebuilt" 0 timeb 583 and you may gladly talk to the
Rotax Service Center that condemed the engine

when I was looking through the paperwork that came with my kit, there was a 4

products as: KR1, KR1-B MOTORGLIDER, KR2 and KR3 AMPHIBIAN.
Does anyone have knowledge or any kind of info on that KR3?
I have no clue what year this was produced but believe my kit was originally

KR> G Limit

2008-10-12 Thread Joachim Saupe
Colin,
BE CAREFUL!
I don't know what you mean by "60 degree LEVEL bank turn".
Just today at the gathering we discussed max stress on the KR. It was
established that the KR is max stressed to 7 Gs at 800 #. Meaning a total
maximum supported "felt" weight of 5600 #. So if your gross is 1400#, your
max G load is just shy of 4 Gs. If at that gross weight you make a turn at
60 degree, your "felt" weight is 2800# IF THIS HAPPENS IN BUMPY AIR, YOU
JUST MIGHT EXCEED MAX LOADING, MAKING YOU THE TEST PILOT!!! Caps were not
intended, but appeared at the right time! I'm not exactly clear on your
intended message but want to warn everyone NOT to exceed the load limits!
Joachim

G's and is a wonderful crusing aircraft for normal category operations.
For most people who fly KRs normal category type maneuvers is very common.
I am willing to bet that most KRs never see more than 1.5 G's their entire
life. If one likes 60 degree banked turns maybe just over 2 G's (60 degree
LEVEL bank turn in any aircraft is 2 G's). The critical point is not going
to be the weight, it is going to be the location of the CG. This will have
more of an effect on the plane's safety than any other ONE thing
considered. The second most important thing is the engine prop
combination. I would think that the VW would never suffice as a good
engine for this weight. Either O-200, Corvair 6, or one of the other
higher output engines would be appropriate here. Also the testing phase is
going to be very important for this aircraft due to the influence on the
flight characteristics and most importantly, the speeds that will
inevitably change. IF well built I can see this plane with proper CG
control being one of the more stable KRs out there. Just don't try a Marty
Roberts arrival move!

KR> FYI from EAA

2008-10-12 Thread Joachim Saupe
It's true, I got the info through an EAA Chapter Gram. This guy has NO clue
what GA is all about.
You can get more info at http://www.eaa.org.
To counter this bill (H.R. 5035) contact your congressional representative
(info at http://www.house.gov), tell them that you are a constituent and
that you want them to oppose H.R. 5035.
