KR> CC21

2011-11-13 Thread John Godwin
This isn't really KR related so please forgive me. Those of you who were at
the Corvair College at Barnwell last year or this year will probably remember
seeing Michael Oberlies. He is the man who always works with me on the barbeque
for Saturday dinner, he is also a Pietenpol builder.
This morning while cleaning up after last nights dinner he received a call
from his ex telling him his son had been shot in the head and was being flown
to the trauma center in Huntsville AL. We immediately left the airport and made
arrangements to fly to Alabama ASAP within the hour. Unfortunately before we
could get to our home field we found out his son had passed.
I can't imagine how Michael must feel right now having to make plans to bury
his oldest child. I would like to ask the community here to please remember
Michael and his family in their prayers. I would also like to ask everyone on
the list to take a minute to call or hug your child or children today as I
have. You never know what life might throw at you, take a minute to let your
kids know you are there for them when they need you.

I never lost my medical nor should I, there is no rule that says I have to
surrender my medical only that I have to ground myself, per AOPA Aeromedical
Division. Since my heart attack I have been watching my diet and exercising and
am in better physical shape than I have been in 20 years. I just don't have the
money to have a stress test every year and loose my medical for 1 or 2 months
while waiting on the FAA to review my doctors report. I am fortunate that my
cardiologist is a pilot, the only one in the practice and friends with my flight
surgeon I will probably jump through all the hoops this year just so I can fly
until I get an LSA then let it laps after that.
In no way would I let my love of flight get in the way of sound judgment when
it comes to others. My attack happened while in flight at night with my
daughter and son-in-law on board. Neither of them have a clue how to fly. What
if I my heart had stopped while up there? 3/4 of the family gone all at one
time, I think of that every day.
As to building my KR to light sport rules, I thought about that a lot. my
chief concern is the fact that I already built it for the AS5046 wings. You
guys know better than me though. If someone could give me an idea of how much
longer I have to make the wings to get the stall speed down and slow the top
speed down I would appreciate it. I haven't installed my gear yet, maybe I
could go with tricycle gear to help the top speed? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Maybe I can keep my other child after all.
 Thanks in advance,
 John

KR> KR2S for sale

2011-02-16 Thread John Godwin
Well guys, I hate to do it but I need to get rid of my KR2s. After I had my
heart attach last year I don't want to keep jumping through the FAA stress test
hoop every year to keep my medical.
 What I have is a Langford KR2S extended 14 inches with AS5046 Airfoils. I
bought the Wix kit when I started so most everything is there to finish the
Airframe plywood, both mahogany and birch spruce for outer wing spars foam ETC.
Currently she is in the boat stage with completed tail section. I have also
fabricated much of the control assemblies bell cranks as well as the WAF which
were CNC cut at a local shop. Landing gear attach fittings also CNC cut and
many many other items , to much to list here. I am keeping my 3 corvair cores
for use in my future LSA homebuilt. All the parts and assemblies are here at my
shop in Cameron SC, if you would like to look at them . I can also send any
pictures you would like to see if you contact me off list. I will not separate
these parts, mainly because I will have to remove a wall in my back room to get
her out, so it's all or nothing. The workmanship is excellent this would give
someone a huge head start in building there KR for about the cost of the basic
kit. I really hate to give her up, but it's time to move on to something low
and slow.

KR> Jim and Deb Faughn

2008-10-12 Thread John Godwin
I just thought I would let you guys know that my wife and I met up with Jim and
Deb Faughn in Charleston SC. yesterday. We met them at the marina around 12:00
and spent the day with them talking about sailing and KRs. and enjoying the
sights, sounds and drinks that Charleston had to offer. We topped off the
evening at my wife's favorite little Irish pub in downtown Charleston, Tommy
Condons. Jim says that he misses all of the KR crew but not enough to stop
sailing. If you want to follow Jim and Debs progress go to their web site at
http://members.socket.net/~jfaughn/ and look at the log section. He will post
some pictures of our visit in a few days.
If any of you live near one of their ports of call, I highly recommend you
look them up. They are a blast. I learned a lot about kR building and flying
from Jim and I am looking forward to using it on my KR.

After some consideration and thought I have decided to put this idea out
for your consideration and thought. I have a 5000 sq' shop here at my
house with a two bedroom guest house. I have a paintbooth big enought to
paint a fuselauge and all the necessary tooling for building KRs and

KR> Firewall

2008-10-12 Thread John Godwin
I am having a little trouble figuring out something and I was hoping you guys
could help. I turned my fuselage over last night and am about to install my
longeron doublers. My question is, with the upper longerons at an angle because
of the angle of the fuselage how do I attach the doublers? Do I install the
doubler and then plane them both level, or do I plane the first longeron level
and then square the side before i install the doubler? The plans show the main
longeron planed off level on the top and squared on the inside and the doubler
glued to it, but it shows the doubler as smaller than the longeron which would
mean it wasn't 5/8. Maybe I am just being anal again but I haven't done this
before and I don't want to compromise the strength of the longerons. Also if
anyone has a good picture of there firewall before they put on the plywood so I
can see what you did I would really appreciate it. Thanks fore ant help in
advance guys, I am waiting for your response.
