I just bought a KR-1 and a KR-2 both have VW. How does the Corvair compare?
Are Corvair engines hard to find?

KR> Motor Mt thrust line

2016-01-04 Thread Mike Arnold
Happy New Year KR people! I asked this question once not sure I got a
consensus. There are two kinds of KR builders as I see it, plan built and
project finishers. At this time I am the latter. I am finishing a KR2S
without a motor mount or engine cowl. Is there a specific thrust line in
reference to the top longeron ? I have a KR2 engine cowl that doesn't tell
me anything. Thanks for help.

Yes on the sarcasm. Lol. I prefer aluminum tube to side of bell crank next

KR> FW: Type 1 Cylinder Heads - cooling

2016-04-27 Thread Mike Arnold
I co-builder friend of mine has looked into a company called Shaefer Oil.
Spelling could be wrong, however it has been formulated for air cooled
engines particularly motorcycles. Test have proven a decrease in head
temperature for identical engines at same conditions. It is not cheap! but,
neither is a taxi at 5,000 feet!! Friction is reduced according to the
tests obviously. Check it out.

KR> Selling my VW engine

2016-08-26 Thread Mike Arnold
I am selling my VW motor and accessories and giving KR guys or gals 1st
crack at it before I go to Barnstormers etc. Here is the info.
Stock 1600cc motor, new bearings and rings. I haven't taken the heads off,
but I know the guy that put the engine together and he is very good. He
used it as a "test mule" motor to taxi a crop duster he was building. It
has never flown in a homebuilt that I know of.
Comes with hub and Sterba 54x42 prop that is in good shape.
The Intake needs cleaning up but works with the carb that is on it.
It was hand prop'd so has no flywheel on it but comes with a new one.
Includes a complete Diehl accessory case with 35A alternator never
installed and the new light weight starter all from Great Plains.
Includes a Comp u fire ignition kit
and a new bosch blue coil,
Chrome push rod tubes
New drive gear installation kit
I am including a "hapi" type motor mount that fits the Diehl acc. case
built by me in a jig so it is straight and square.
I have a never installed German .010 .010 crank I was going to use to
rebuild the engine they are hard to find so I bought when I could. It is
perfect
Including an extra pair intake port
Everything you see in pics goes with it.
Price is $3500.00
While this motor will run and has been installed on an airplane to taxi it,
I am NOT representing it to be air-worthy, use your discretion, I was going
to build it to 1835 cc with the 10 10 crank. I am not responsible for what
you do with the engine. Just selling a lot of stuff for a great price. Call
for any info you might need. I can get more pics if you need them. Thanks
btw I am going with a different power plant or it would not be for sale.

Re: KR> strobe power supply

2017-11-05 Thread Mike Arnold via KRnet
The length of wire from the power sorce to the light (LED) is not a
problem. Not a lot of current draw, and heat is not a problem if you use a
proper size wire. I would suggest you run shielded wire and ground the
shield at the power source not at the wing tip. This will keep electrical
noise down.

KR> Firewall construction

2018-07-27 Thread Mike Arnold via KRnet
Hey KR 'ers how has everyone constructed their firewall? I have the
plywood, fiberfrax, fiberfrax adhesive, and ss sheet. Is the fiberfrax
adhesive enough to hold the SS sheet to the plywood or does it need T-88 or
something. Don't want to come apart.

Re: KR> Firewall construction

2018-07-27 Thread Mike Arnold via KRnet
Mark I think your right, I have designed the mounts so that they bolt
through the re-enforced part of the fuselage. I am going to apply the
fiberfrax sealer (adhesive) to the plywood and SS sheet then epoxy (T 88)
the whole thing to the fuselage. The mounting bolts should hold the motor
on.

Re: KR> Interesting engine for sale

2019-10-23 Thread Mike Arnold via KRnet
Ok I tried to stay out of this but, as some of you know I am putting a
Suzuki G15 in my KR2S. Full disclosure I am a dealer for Aeromomentum.
Forgetting that, I think the Suzuki is a great option for a KR. Great
performance, light weight, great fuel economy, overhaul is very affordable.
Can't beat the price. This basic engine has been around for decades and
proven to be tuff. These engines are all brand new not rebuilds. I am not
going to write a novel on this net about it, but if you want more
information on it contact me. Mine will be in this year for sure.
