FYI,

I just received a JEPPESEN AMERICAS SINGLE UPDATE SD card from LEI /

so I guess I as up to date as I can be. This feels much better, I

Glad to see your 'at it'... I am in Canada and wish to have a look at these

I'm getting old too, and I may just continue to be a KR 'wannabee'...so it
is not a big deal but will be part of a 'batch' of KR people who may be part

If you don't get CONTACT#85 magazine you would have missed the story of Pat
Panzerra getting a new R3000 'donated' to put and use in their project
601XL. (CONTACT #80 had the full story on this engine)
I sent Pat an email asking about the status of the R-3000, whether it was
still in Beta testing and that was part of the deal or if the R-3000 was
available to all. (Since it fits a VW engine mount Zenith donated an engine
mount which is the 'clue' that this is still in Beta testing)
No reply yet.
I suspect that Revmaster is looking for a 'client' base (Zenith?) big enough
to support mass production to pay the development costs and next batch
production as these costs must be large and need to be dealt with.
The R-3000 at $10,000 FWF, looks like another really good choice for the
KR2S alongside the Corvair but at 2x the price. Still... way under a Jab,
turbo Rotax , or new 0-200 - and it appears less complicated.
Maybe Pat will comment to the KR net.

KR> KR Flight Sim for Gathering

2008-10-12 Thread The Ainsworths
Go to the archives and type in Flight Sim. The answer is there. You have to
go to flightsim.com and join the forum(free) or go here:
http://ifly99.tripod.com/flightsimstuff.htm
I used the 2000 ver on my 2002 FS
Jeez Dana , is this one of your old addresses?
It didn't work too well and Myron had this to say a few years ago:

"Well , I've been flying the Kr2s in MS Flight Sim 2002 Professional version
and it has been enjoyable.
But I have noticed a few things that made me wonder about the flight model
or the ( air file ).
For instance, I couldn't seem to slow it down below 80 - 85 mph and it
became very slugish and stalled out completely.
So I went to a tool that come with MS FS 2k2 Pro, it's called "Aircraft
Editor" and is accessed by going to the "Start" button then selecting
"Programs" then "Microsoft Games" then "Flight Simulator 2002" and finally
"Aircraft Editor". There is a complete "Help" library to teach you how to
use the editor and if you want to experiment with flight characteristics, it
is well worth your time to learn.
Well, anyway, so I opened up the Kr2s air file and after viewing it, I
realized that not only is the Panel and instruments from a British
"Spitfire", the air file is also from a Spitfire with a few modifications.
Like a lowered top air speed to about 160 mph straight and level and a top
speed of about 200 mph in a slight dive ( I wondered why the airspeed
indicator went up to 400 mph ) as well as others that I didn't bother with.
But anyway, I'm going to try to make some changes and come up with a
better "air file" that comes closer to a real Kr2s.
In the mean time, don't throw out the one you have, just increase your air
speed on landings until I come up with something better and buy the way the
"Spitfire" flew great."
I wish I was there!
Did Richard Shirley do his usual 'tail up taxi' when he arrived?

What are you doing with your KR2? Engine from Taylor going into the KR?
Just curious...just heading out to the hangar. The new Skybolt with one of
those Czech radials like on Darrlys Russian in the corner, is about ready to
fly. Should be a great performer and really looks neat.
A lot happening at CYFD (Gilbert Aircraft), Darryl is finishing one and
bought a Pitts and work on the wings is progressing. He hopes to have all
(yeah right!) of his aircraft flying next year or perhaps 2...all of
them... Spit as well!
Ed is rebuilding his small Spitfire and still flying his Tailwind, Ray is
still working on his Mustang and is going to license it a an Ultralight

Has anyone any idea what the touque is on the tube when the flaps are

This would give anyone an idea of what size tube to use, what size of
flanges connections etc & what power is needed in the actuator.

Also once the system was finished you could test load to a required torque.

Don't worry! If you use West System as described in their brochures or
book it will bond as well or better than T88. Remember that a 'bonding'
filler is used to make a paste of West epoxy and filler for bonding,
something like 407 ( I don't have my chart handy) and the fillers are
dirt cheap. I think Harold Woods up here in the cold north (Orillia) is
using West extensively on his KR and may enter into this discussion or
use the 'search engine' with West or Harold Woods (Nov 2003 was the
date he posted his opinion on West System) as the identifier and check
the archives. I use West System an all my boat fixes and they never come
apart and wood failure is always first and complete destruction of the
part is next.
Just remember to avoid doing bonding or lay-ups in cold climate. Try

Good points on T88
You convinced me on KR building to use the T88 ahead of the West.
My point was that not to worry if you used West. A pure West System
epoxy as an adhesive is not near as good as West with a proper filler,
but is as good as any epoxy adhesive if used with the proper filler and
West System recipe. I too had thermal problems on large areas...but then
when it got cold.it would not harden properly, probably like any 2
part epoxy.

ago. I started with the first batch of T88 taking 4 or 5 scrap pieces
from the same wood used in the project, ..
The T88 has a non-critical mix. You can also mix very small batches if
you miss the mark. The West System you need to measure carefully. The
pumps are set for a fairly large batch when gluing (an incredibly small
batch when glassing something like a wing)

KR> R3000

2008-10-12 Thread The Ainsworths
Revmaster Aviation is experimenting with a new R3000 100hp engine and
hope to have it ready for full production in 2006 @ $1. By the time
some of you/us are finished your KR building (and sanding) you might be
ready to go this route. The engine is in testing (running) stage now
with mostly all newly designed parts and the old VW bugaboos taken care
of. This pricing seems to me to fit in between a good Corvair and Jab
with the 0-200 (new) far away. Something to ponder

2008-10-12 Thread The Ainsworths
Dan and others,
Congratulations Dan!!
I met Dan at Gathering 2004 and never met a more determined man to 'get
the job done'.
Gathering 2005, Dan flew in and was a little more relaxed, as he was on
the finishing phases of WANNABEE. It just shows what a determined
person(s) can accomplish, and if you go over their website you will see
that they didn't take a short route. I hope you keep on publishing on
your site as the other recent new KR flyers are upgrading and continuing
on helping with their website.
Oh yeh , Congrats also to Mark Jones and his bird in this
month's EAA SPORT AVIATION, can Langford be far behind to make in the
"what our members are building.."
Gary
PS I'm on Digest and late with my applause!

KR> Vision LSA alternative

2008-10-12 Thread The Ainsworths
I had my eye on the Vision but it seemed a bit too much for a Corvair
and probably better suited for a 115+ hp 'Lync' or something similar. I
don't think that there is a Corvair powered Vision 'in the air'
Are they still in business? I'm sure you can buy the construction
manual and build from scratch but the 'fold-a-plane' stuff would sure
save time and weight if it is still available.
Perhaps those who have witnessed the Vision in flight can provide more.
I remember that The Corvair Authority was pretty tight with J. Rahm and
some on this list are in the inner circle and can shed some light on the
status of the Vision.
The building construction process does lend itself to the processes that
are used in the KR and it is a much larger "KR" for those of us, and
friends, who are 'larger' types.
If you go to the Gathering (and you should!) you can see the 'type' of
people who own and fly the KR's and make better decisions on what's
best.

Oh no, not the countdown again! It drove me to point of...well.. going!
I was the early 'Cannuck' that drove 11 hours straight to get their on
Thursday and get 'camped' and was also a non KR owner. For those of you
even considering a KR (like me) GO TO THE "GATHERING" (like me) and
learn a whole lot of KR stuff that's not in the archives. I also learned
much more like the 'proper' liquid to bring.how much to bring.and met a
bunch of folks who 'learned me'. You will know what an Orma, Heath,
Dana, Bob, Mark, Steve, Pat all mean and look like! Maybe even get a
ride now that Langford's gonna bring his own -o- (If I go again I might
bring one of my Corvairs .eh! Doug?)

KR> west system

2008-10-12 Thread The Ainsworths
I have used west system on my boat repairs and read their (very heavy
book) cover to cover. The west system is as good if not superior to many
other epoxy systems because of the ease of use, 2 types of drying
set-ups and colours etc.. Just be sure to use the proper fillers! EG
filler 407 is best for filleting and not bad for fairing. Filler 410 is
best for fairing and not bonding, 406 is the best compound to mix with
the epoxy for bonding.get it."read the label set a better table" -0-

As the person who started this thread I agree with Mark wholeheartedly,
yet, this reply by Mr Irwin should have gone to the home address of the
discounter and not the KRnet. It was, I feel, a 'knee jerk' reaction and
should have not happened. I am sure Mr Irwin wishes he could undue what

Rumor has it that.

Keep the fire going late. Leaving Thursday ASAP and will be 11 hours

I talked to Owen today and he and Chris Gardiner are flying in so we

I have 'lurked' this list for 4 years now and listened to all
