I recently removed a regulator from my type 4 2000. The regulator is a flow through type that has a dial on the top that turns with detents and numbers 1 to 5 plus. I found that my engine was running lean at full power and I could not determine the cause. I finally removed the regulator and gave it a comparison to an unrestricted tube and decided that there was enough resistance to the flow of gas that I wanted to try the engine without the regulator. The engine worked well without the regulator and showed no tendency to run rich or lean. This is just a thought as you might be talking about an altogether different type of regulator. KR>Ground Adjustable IVO prop
After a long down time, the KR finally went up today with the new IVO prop. I did not get out of the pattern to give it a good test, however my first impression is a good one. The prop was set to the low pitch stop. My 2000 CC type 4 was only able to turn 3000 RPM static. My climb was better then I remember and my VSI was not talking. I started climbing at 85 MPH and soon reduced the speed to 70 to see if the VSI was sick. I was out climbing the 152 ahead of me and once I turned to down wind, I had to reduce power to keep from overtaking the little Cessna. As I was leveling off the RPM climbed to 3300 and the Airspeed indicated 120 MPH. I'm excited and feel that my fear loosing the high speed that I enjoyed with the Sterba prop may be unfounded. Someone commented the other day that IVO does not make a Prop for our engines. That statement is incorrect. They used to only make props for the Rotax type engines and the high horse power engines. They how make this mid range prop that I am flying. For around USD 1200, you can get both the prop and the cockpit control for in-flight pitch changes. If you're poor like me you can buy the prop now and later buy the electric pitch change mechanisms. Red Oak--- I did not get the KR in the air as early as I had planed, and the storm front will be moving between Red Oak and Michigan this weekend. So, I have elected to not make the trip. The difficult part is learning to track straight down the runway and lift the tail., Once you are up on the mains, the rudder will steer the plane just like you do when you lift the nose of a 152 early prior to takeoff. landing is the reverse, you can stay on the mains until the tail won't fly any more, then you hold the stack back to pin the tail down and stop, while steering with the tail wheel. My type IV has carried my KR and I for nearly 19 years, and we desire to go faster then 143 MPH and carry a passenger with at least 500 fpm climb. I'm checking out engine options. Corvair question which engine models, year models, versions, or serial numbers are most desirable. Which heads, or other features does one look for? What is OK and what should I avoid? KR>KR-IFR
In the early years of flying my KR there were times that I wished I had more instruments. Remember that the design goal of the KR was to keep it light and fly fast. I tried to do that initially and just kept wishing for more equipment. My first wish came while crossing Lake Michigan enroute to Oshkosh. How did I know that on a cloudless day, the water and the sky are the same color, and me and my KR with no AH. I nearly went blind trying to keep that sun ball in the same spot on the cowling for the 17 minutes that I was out of sight of land. The second time I made that wish was while taking a "Special" to get out of my home base in light broken cloud cover, but still IFR. The gap in the clouds that I thought I could follow just closed in on me and again there I was with only a turn and bank to keep the wings level. And there have been other wishes as well. I said all this so that those who want to scold and flame me can do so and also to say the more equipment you have the better your chances for survival, if for some reason you can't see. N110LR now has a fairly complete panel. In that I have AH, DG, T&B, VSI. I have not tested the plane with the third gyro and hope that my 11 venturi will turn all of them. To help the venturi, it is placed behind the right exhaust stack that helps it spin the gyro's prior to rotation. The low and slow airplanes that most say don't need all that equipment, usually cant fly at the same speed as a well engined KR can and the faster you cover real-estate, the more situational awareness you need. But one has to do what one has to do. A point to consider. Someone once said that if you sell a KR in 10 parts then you have increased your liability in 10 different directions. If you decide to part it out, make a parts and price list Orma aka AviationMech KR-2 N110LR 1984 to Present www.members.aol.com/aviationmech

KR>landing light covers

It was not a KR, however the concept is the same. The nose of the pants was removed and small round lights were imbedded into the that spot. The wires were run up the gear legs. Two lights can be used, one aimed for landing and the other for taxi. It should not take too much imagination. If the lights are planted too deep in the pants, the removed nose section could be used to form a clear plexi lens. Orma aka AviationMech KR-2 N110LR 1984 to Present www.members.aol.com/aviationmech
