Netters, Merry early Christmas. I saw this episode of The Aviators and noticed the KR in the background during the Jeff Skiles interview. I thought you all would be interested to see it. KR> BMW engine
Hi Stef, I was looking into putting a BMW R1100 motor on my KR-2 project. I asked this same question on the net a while back. All I could find is "maybe" some guy in New Orleans, LA has a BMW on his KR aircraft. I was not able to get a hold of this person. I was realistically thinking about it and the R1100 motor is lighter than other airplane engines and the KR aircraft need to be a little more nose heavy to fly good. A heavier engine would maybe make your KR fly better. Another issue that came to mind about the BMW engine is that gearbox, it is just another thing to break, where an O-200 would just be a direct drive. I believe the engine itself could handle being on an airplane, that's how BMW got started. Here are some links that might be helpful. Steve glover is bussy for me to try to get an approval, but if there is someone who is flying this setup. It is much much eesear. I Dont have any problems with my certification. In the Netherlands it is allowed "" if there is already an aircraft certified flying with the KR, you get a certification"" Let me Know. KR> wheel vs tail landing
What effect if any does the engine have on flying a KR-2 with 2 people? You would think that a larger engine like an 0-200 would bring the CG forward more as opposed to an Volkswagon 1853. How does the wing design effect the flying characteristics with 2 people? The stock KR-2 wing vs. Diehl wing vs. AS504x wing. Can you just move the wing back a little to give a more forward CG? KR> Back and forth from Tailwheel to Tricycle
Hey netters, I was wondering if anyone has pondered the idea of a KR that can be converted back and forth from a Tailwheel to Tricycle. I recently discovered that the Glastar is capable of this. Here is a link that shows the video, you will have to go to about the 5:30 point in the video to see this conversion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZWRlFa3nOw Maybe some way the Diehl nose gear can be installed and removed again and the main gear can be moved from the front of the spar to the back of the spar. KR> BMW engines
The R1100 engine has 98 horsepower at 7500 rpm. This is a little high for a propeller, and the load of a motorcycle might be different for a propeller. I just wanted to see if anyone has heard how the BMW R-engine does on an airplane. I have been told through some research that the Rotax gearbox will go on a BMW engine.
