KR> Grease on Wood

2008-11-21 Thread patric...@usfamily.net
Having my nephew around here for the last few years, I have not been able to
work on my project due to the mess of junk he would pile on my work table.(He's
53 yrs old with an old car and a motorcycle) He is now gone to Texas and I have
cleaned off my work table. Big problem, he spilled some oil and grease on the
table and the right side of my project was still on the table. the skinned side
was up and has oil stains on the front two bays. there is also oil or grease
stains on the back stringers and longerons. Is there anything that will
neutralize the stains or will I have to rebuild the side?

KR> Gluing Techniques

2008-10-12 Thread patric...@usfamily.net
I used a plastic resturant ketchup bottle. I mixed the T88 with a metel rod
with a hook on the end that I flattened out with a hammer. I put the pointed
top on the bottle and cut off a bit of the tip at an angle and squeezed the
T88 out in a long string along the strips of wood and then used a solder
brush to smooth put the bead and dropped the side ply onto the strips, moved
it around a bit to get a good glue bite and let it set up. (Use staples for
clamps). Do not forget to turnthe side over so that the excess forms a filet
with the side instead of driping down the side stringers and gluing to the
table. (Don't ask me how I know).

My idea is to have the WAF's wrap around the spar with a door hinge type
piece where the bolts go through and instead of bolting the wings together with
horizontal bolts, there would be one bolt front and one bolt aft that would
drop through the hinge and be much easier to remove and replace.

Take the back cushion to your local upholstery shop. Have them sew a
pouch five inches wide 4 inches from the bottom. Then insert a blood pressure
cuff ( I got mine at Goodwill for $3 ) into the pouch. Shorten the hose to 5
or 6 inches. Instant lumbar support. Just pump the little bulb up and you can
sit back there all day. Just a note.

KR> Wood

2008-10-12 Thread patric...@usfamily.net
I used Douglas Fir for the tail feathers on my first KR and would have used it
on the wing spars if I hadn't already built them. I got the Douglas Fir from
the trim wood from an old house that was torn down. It was FREE!!!
My inspector, (anyone remember Jack Hickey?) told me to leave it out side
for a few weeks to absorb some moisture as the moisture content coming from
being inside for so many years was below 2%.

KR> parachutes

2008-10-12 Thread patric...@usfamily.net
I was certified as a chute packer while in the Air Force Reserves. It is not
difficult to do and I would think that if you joined a local sky divers club
you could learn and get yourself certified to pack your own chute and you could
also get in a few jumps to know what to do if you ever needed to do it. I also
do not think you could get out of a KR2 in an emergency. I often wondered why
one has to wear a chute to do acrobatics in a Citabria when you can't get out
of an aircraft like that either.

KR> Buying wood

2008-10-12 Thread patric...@usfamily.net
Bubba,
The first KR I built, I went to the local boat yard in White Bear Lake,
MN and bought some Sitka spruce from them. The local FBO at So. St. Paul
airport carried aircraft plywood so I was covered all directions.
Try a boat building shop in your area but don't tell them you are
building an airplane.
