2009-09-02 Thread Lee Parker
Why don't we make a list of places that qualify and take a vote at the
gathering?

No, not at all.  It's certainly a free country.  I asked for volunteers a
few weeks ago, and you were one of them, but after I made my comment about
the event being held at a somewhat centralized location, several of the
volunteers were sufficiently hacked off that they withdrew their
invitations.  You're certainly free to make any offer you'd like to make.
The vote at the Gathering will be deciding factor, as always.  It's up to
the participants to decide where they want to hold the next one, and up to
the pilots to decide if they want to fly there or not.  If AJO or somewhere
else in California is voted as the place for the next Gathering, then I'll
do my best to fly there.  Mark Jones also volunteered his place at KSTE, but
I'm not convinced that one would win a vote by the majority either, although
y'all are both welcome to prove me wrong on this.  I'll try to be neutral,
but that appearance is probably toast at this point.  I thought I'd found
the perfect offer, but like I said, it's not up to me.  Please don't let me
be the guy who started a perception of some kind of rift between the East
and West coasts.  I'm already stressed out enough.

One thing's for sure, we can't expect Larry to do this forever...

KR> 2010 KR Gathering at I39

2009-09-02 Thread n92...@cox.net
Hi Dana,

I just sent Mark a note responding to an email as well which I'll paste here as
using the blackberry for long posts are a pain.

Start msg:
I probably should have waited to respond until I was at my computer instead of
the blackberry to be more clear in my post. My intention was to ensure people
knew they still had the option of offering their locations. I understand AJO
would be too far for most KR drivers much farther than NM or Texas so the
central location idea makes sense.

Please don't misunderstand my post to infer some type of east/west rift. It was
certainly not my intention.
End.

I heard about selling the RV. I just sold my EZ also. I sent a email back a few
weks ago and left a phone msg as well. We will be making several mods to the KR
design also and then build a light sport version.

Steve, I can't speak for anyone else but this has always been a democratic
process where it is talked about on the KRNet but decided at the gathering. So,
no I wouldn't think my volunteering to host the gathering for the third time
precludes anyone from throwing their hat in the ring.

For many on the KRNet that do not know, I have sold my RV and am back to doing
something with the KR design. I'm thinking since I built one KR, and now one
RV, I can put something together via the KR route pretty darn quickly with a
few nice additions.

With that said, i39 is located in central Kentucky, 25 miles south of LEX
airport so commercial transportation is taken care of. The airport is just off
of I-75 north/south and 20 miles south of east/west 64 making vehicle
transportation to the airport very assessable. The new FBO is very receptive
to the idea and will have one very large hangar available to accommodate those
KR's which fly in. They are presently adding 500' to give them 5000' and a new
taxiway. A very large ramp area for milling around on. Camping will be
available just behind the main hangar, albeit no lake to "swim" in. The
airport is out in the country, away from congested areas. Within about a mile,
merely by making a right out of the airport, are two national motels and a
couple restaurants. A couple miles past that is the town of Berea, which is
known as the craft capital of Kentucky for off airport visiting. Having hosted
the gathering twice before, a prior builder of a KR and having been around KR's
as long as I have, I think I have a pretty good idea what everyone looks for in
a gathering.

I'm a big boy, if this doesn't sound like a good place, chime in.

Time to buy some wood.

Another point about central Kentucky, I just checked flightprep and did a 300
mile circle and it hit 19/20 states. It's in flat country so no mountains to
contend with but like I said, it's democratic
