Netter's,

The 2014 KR Gathering awards are now on the website at
http://krgathering.com/proshop.htm for those interested. I'm still not
happy with the thread choice and details on the shirts but we are getting
closer.

Either everyone gets an award, no one gets an award or the deserving
ones get awards. You picked the best choice. Let the fun begin. See
everyone there.

In light of these concerns, and as host of the
Gathering, the individual awards this year will
be presented to the KR that scored the highest in
each individual area and if one KR takes home all
the awards, including "people's choice" and
"greatest distance flown", then so be it. THEY
WERE ALL DESERVED.

KR> Gathering awards

2009-09-01 Thread Larry Flesner

I’ve received a number of replies on how the
Gathering awards should be presented and the
opinions are mixed. Some say “winner takes all”
and others say “only one award per
aircraft”. Winner takes all is pretty straight
forward while only one award per KR could present
some real dilemmas for both the judges and the recipients.

The one award per aircraft scenario has, in my mind, the following concerns:

The KR judged “Best KR” would have to score very
high in all three areas, “best firewall forward”,
“best paint”, and “best panel and
interior”. That disqualifies it from winning any
of the individual awards. The next highest
scoring KR(s) would have scored very high in at
least two or three areas or possibly scored
slightly less in all three areas. So how do you
pick which KR receives the individual awards. I
can envision a scenario where one of the three
individual category winners would have scored
third in the area for which they received the
award. In any given scenario it might be
painfully obvious that all three category winners
were really only second best in scoring for their
award. Personally, I could not feel very good
about receiving a “best of” award when it is
obvious that I was really only second best or
worse. Also, would the KR judged “best KR” be
eligible to win “peoples choice”? Given the
limited number of KR’s at the Gathering and the
wide range of workmanship, judging and “spreading
around” the awards could be a very real problem for the judges.

In light of these concerns, and as host of the
Gathering, the individual awards this year will
be presented to the KR that scored the highest in
each individual area and if one KR takes home all
the awards, including “people’s choice” and
“greatest distance flown”, then so be it. THEY
WERE ALL DESERVED. If the goal of our awards
program is to promote ingenuity of design and
quality of workmanship, I personally see this as our only option.

My suggestion for future Gatherings would be to:
1. eliminate individual category awards and have
only “judged best KR” and “greatest distance
flown” or 2. eliminate judging entirely and only
have “peoples choice” award, voted on by the
attendees, and “greatest distance flown”, with
maybe a plaque or trophy for all KR’s flown to
the Gathering and / or 3. form an awards
committee for future Gatherings and let them sort it all out.

I would hope that all attending can appreciate
the soul searching that went in to making my
decision and accept it without any hard feelings.

See you at the Gathering…….

KR> Gathering awards

2009-08-27 Thread Larry Flesner

Gathering attendees / netters,

I'd like some opinions on just how the awards for KR judging at the
Gathering should be handled. In the past we have had several KR's
that won most, if not all, categories and took home all the
"bacon". Some have expressed an opinion that the awards should be
"spread around" with no single KR receiving them all. Please post me
an e-mail to fles...@verizon.net and not back to the net. I'll see
what the consensus of opinions are and take them in to consideration
while making a decision. I'll keep my opinion to myself for now.

Thanks..

Larry F. did an OUTSTANDING job putting on this years Gathering together
We all owe him a debt of gratitude for all the effort he put in.
Tonight, I bet Larry is in his Lazyboy, getting some well deserved rest.

Award results were:

Best Interior- Steve Glover
Best firewall forward- Bill Clapp
Judges Choice- Steve Grover
Peoples Choice- Bill Clapp

Congratulations Guys!!, your planes were absolutely beautiful.
I was also thrilled to see N4DD, (Dan Diehl's old plane) restored to new
life by Rick.

Thanks Brant but life has a way of keeping you humble. I came home
and was asked by the neighbor to fix his toilet! I made the
repair but informed him I wouldn't help him with the paperwork! :-)

Richard Shirley and Steve Glover won the "greatest distance flown"
award. California to Illinois and will return via Illinois-Tennessee-
California and Richard is doing it in a KR1. I wonder how many
questions he gets about the pink purse in the luggage rack!

2008-10-12 Thread Mark Jones
Best Interior: Steve Glover
Best Overall: Steve Glover
Best Firewall Forward: Bill Clapp
Peoples Choice Award: Bill Clapp
Farthest Distance Flown: Steve Glover and Richard Shirley. I asked them
after the banquet who parks their plane in California the closest to Mount
Vernon since both these guys are based at the same airport and I found that
Steve is actually farther away but Richard stepped up real quick and said
his aircraft has a much shorter take off run than Steve's does so
technically he flew the farthest distance. Who's to arguethey both got
an award

Thanks Larry for the absolute best KR Gathering that I have ever attended.
My hat is off to you sir. I can not wait till next year. As a matter of fact
I was thinking of changing my KR Net name to Hal Minidaze. Could someone
please tell me how many days I have to wait for the next gathering?
