Mark, I actually enjoyed the change of pace that you brought with the pictures of your Germany vacation. What a beautiful place and how fortunate that you where able to share this with your family and to extend that to your KR family. Thank you very much. I hope that in this new year that more KR members will share pictures of more of the custom work and solutions they come up with in their KR ventures. As the saying goes. pictures are worth a thousand words. I posted the answer to this one to the CorvAircraft list this morning, so if you're not a member of that list, you should consider joining. It's also run by me, so it's just like KRnet, except for the personalities! Join by sending an email to corvaircraft-j...@mylist.net. I don't bother posting that kind of stuff to KRnet because I assume that anybody that cares anything about the Corvair will be on CorvAircraft. But to answer your question, I had one cylinder that was "only" 74/80 differential compression, so I fixed it. Most people wouldn't have noticed it, and most who DID notice it wouldn't have bothered to fix it, but the Corvair is so easy to get the head off, I had it fixed in a few hours. The problem was a few tiny radial gauges on the face of the valve, even though it was a new one. I had lapped the valves to the seats, but it didn't bridge those gouges, and I didn't notice. I had the valve face ground, and it was only slightly better (that's when I noticed it), so I stuck a new one in it and now it's fine. I still have some high EGT problem on two cylinders, so I'm looking at intake and fuel distribution matters at the moment. We beat this one to death a few months ago on CorvAircraft. I'm sure I could fly it right now, but would rather get it right. I'm not used to owning engines that do things that I have no explanation for. I just need the time to look at it... KRNetHeads, Just so I'll have some KR content, I took a few pictures of cutaway aircraft engines in the Deutches Museum. Here's a sample of a VW Type1 Limbach, at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/germany/0410110918.jpg , that I took on our recent vacation to Germany. It's Friday, so maybe I can get away with this. Some of y'all probably have the day off and some time to kill. You might remember that I promised a web page detailing our German vacation, eventually. It's finally done, at http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/germany/ . Obviously I have a lot of time invested in this web page (it's 420 pictures, and is 33Mb big)... time which I really should have been working on my plane. Most people I've showed it too have raved over it, so it's probably not a complete waste of your time. If you're on dialup, start it downloading and come back in an hour so you don't find yourself waiting for each image to load. 33M is a lot of stuff, and although I've never seen it happen, it wouldn't surprise me if it became "unavailable" because of the bandwidth. But I don't really think HiWAAY has a bandwidth limit, so we'll find out. I ran my KR's Corvair engine some yesterday, and intend to spend the next three days working on the KR. I've fixed the slight compression problem I had on number 6, and will be checking the intake system next. One bank seems to be running richer than the other, as unlikely as that seems. I really haven't done much with it in the last few weeks due to demands from the workplace, holiday family stuff, and preventative maintenance on the wife's Audi. I'm getting back around to it, although it looks like I'll be going back to Germany (on business) for up to two months early in 2005. I'd better get it in gear! Y'all have a good one...
