To eliminate any confusion I'll state it one more time, directly from
Jeanette rand on 1/16/2022.

No one, including Steve Glover, is authorized by Rand Robinson (Jeanette
Rand) to sell plans created by Rand Robinson to the KR series of
aircraft.  Steve Glover never owned the "copyright" but was authorized
by Rand to sell copies of plans produced by Rand. That is no longer the
case.  Jeanette's words were "the plans are off the market" and I'm
retired".  Jeanette has no problem with Steve selling parts or
supporting the design in any way other than selling plans.

While we may personally agree or disagree with that decision it is the
reality we face.  While I personally don't see a great liability issue
given 50 years of KR crashes, deaths, and injuries, without any lawsuits
that I'm aware of,  it's not my bank account they would come after.  I
suspect it wouldn't be hard to prove that any KR flying was not "built
to plans" to avoid liability but again, I have no skin in the game.

On the other hand I personally see no legal issues in someone selling an
unused set of KR plans.  You did not sign away your right of transfer of
personal property and I can sell my entire KR, built to plans, sort of,
if I chose.

Finally, I don't expect to see any legal issues, other than someone
producing and selling new sets of plans, with anything that anyone does
with unused plans they own.  What legal issue is being violated?  IMHO..

I also don't see a problem with someone producing an entirely new set of
plans to a new aircraft incorporating all the changes and calling it a
Gismo 2 and selling those plans.  All aircraft have the same parts,
wings, tail, fuselage, spars, landing gear, engines, etc., it's just the
proportions that change.  Any substantial change makes it a new and
different aircraft.

Value my "opinions" by the price you paid for them.

Dear members of the KR group.

I took over a KR 2 project from someone, it doesn't come with drawings yet.

The site of nv-aero does not work well enough.

Could I take over the KR 2 plans from someone?

I would like to hear from you.

Kind regards,

I believe the KR2S' additional 2" up front was a direct compensation for the

to get the CG in the right place for each particular plane (or "fixed" with
spacers), rather than assuming that any given KR mount should be a good fit.
After all, some folks mount VWs, some Continentals, and others Jabirus.

Richard Mole did a very detailed stability analysis "by the book" on the
KR2S (not the KR2), and his comment about the last two inches was something
like "I sure hope nobody's flown it back there". He put the last nail in
that issue, in my mind. A properly set up KR should have no problem flying
any reasonable passenger/baggage/fuel configuration, full to empty, and
still avoid that aft 2". But if you start out aft with just the pilot, it's
not going to get any better!

Why is the CG range given as it is. Got me...

I think the only flaw in the original plans regarding CG, is the aft 2
inches allowed. I think the problem is that there are no KRs built to the
design weight. When you add more weight, most of it is aft of the CG,
therefore the reason you must do something to offset it.

Most KR-2 builders acknowledge that the VW engine installation needs to have
the engine moved forward 2-inches from the plans callout. Does not matter
either conventional gear or tri-gear. The KR-2S supplement moves the
firewall forward 2-inches more than the KR-2 plans. The above 2-inch move
assumes the builder is going to use the "standard" VW engine mount. There
was mention on the KRnet that the VW engine mount should be modified to add
the 2-inches so builders would not need to resort to using 2-inch spacer
blocks at the fire wall. All this engine moving to get better cg for flight
stability indicates to me that the KR-2 plans are flawed in the first place.

Hold that thought and consider this:
Most builders acknowledge that the last 2-inches of the cg range (of 8 to
16-inches) should not be used for flight operations due to lack of stability
and possible loss of control in stall situations. Creating an adverse cg
situation by loading the airplane is an operator issue; creating an airplane
with an adverse cg is a builder issue. A combination of these issues can
become deadly for pilot and passenger.
So, my questions to the KRnet: Are the KR-2 Plans flawed? Where is the flaw
and what should the true number be? Is the drawing for the sidewall
"ladder" where the main spar location is set wrong? Is it an error in
locating the firewall with respect to the main spar? Is the airframe in
need of a larger heavier engine?

I have a KR2 that would have been built about the time these plans were
out. If I buy a new set won't I lose the original spec's relating to how
mine was built ? Any amendments would be very useful to look at , I agree,
but do the new plans still incorporate notes relating to earlier versions ?
