With the help of friends, My girl is tucked in to her new home at ASN, Talladega, Al. Also while looking at the Gathering attendee list, I read the name Max Power, Is this the coolest name ever or what ? We need name tags, I've got to meet this guy. Maybe over a root beer. Man, I'm thinking 220 wet, a good rubber sanding block, and a bucket of water are going to be your best friends for a while. :o)? Yep.? You're gonna hate sanding after working that stuff out. We'll let you sing a solo after this. -Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM ? Let me start by saying that something I thought was a good thing in the past has come back to bite me. In the building process as I finished a part of the plane I would prime it by rolling on 2 part epoxy high fill primer, yes I said, roll it on with little foam rollers. This leaves a slight orange peel texture and this stuff is killer to sand down to smooth. What I thought I could do in two days is going to take all week. I hope we sing the sanding song at the gathering because I am definitely earning the right to sing it, Hell, I might even lead the thing. Mike Sylvester kr2s builder Birmingham,AL.

Mike I have used MEK in the past to smooth out orange peel in the past on small parts. Never on the entire project. It works well and does not effect the strength of any work under it. Rick PS if you do this make sure it is well vented. I've gotten work some work done on my KR2S during the winter and I will be getting it back out to the airport this weekend (weather permitting). I painted her and added lights so I can operate at night. Paint was just a gloss white boat enamel. I painted her using a harbor freight air sprayer and borrowed air compressor from the EAA chapter. I did not get the wheel pants/fairings done as I had planned for this winter. Problem is I keep reading the flying reports from everyone and decided I just have to get back up in the air. Also since it is Friday. A friend at the chapter here in Kansas City has a Zenith 701 project for sale for $24K. It is almost finished with maybe 6 months of work left in it. If your looking for a project that would not require a lot of time to finish it up this would be a good one. It comes with the Rotax 912 engine and his logs are complete so it should be no problem paperwork wise. If your interested, send me an email and I'll give you his contact information. Just a little note to let you all know what's up. Yesterday I finshed cutting the tubing for my rudder peddles and will take them to work and have them welded. Today I finished taking the motor apart all the insides look good. STD. pistons, STD bearings. Will take the crank in and have it checked but it looks good. Now to get the valves apart and have the heads and case cleaned. Slowly heading forward. Eric Pitts Indiana ___ Speed up your surfing with Juno SpeedBand. Now includes pop-up blocker! Hi Guys, Gz, Am I sick of sanding. The ailerons are done and ready to paint. The wings need once more over on the tops only and then ready to paint. I laid up the top of my cowl out of carbon fiber today in a mold I took off from a RR cowl but I extended it 2". The bottom will be latter this week. I weighed every thing last week and will be around 715#. A lot more than I thought but no changing it now. I hope to have the plane back together by the end of the month. I stopped in at an Auto Zone today. They have the LED light bulbs like Mark Jones is using for a tail light. $7.99 They have red and white in stock in the hip hop car section. Make sure you are getting the coverage area to the sides of center that is required. I believe the RV builder that is selling LED bulb kits did a computer model or something to determine the angle of each element to get the required coverage. Larry Flesner

If you make sure you get the NEW STYLE wide angle design, you will get full brightness of 120° and ability to see the light through a full 180°. Past 180°, you can see the light but it is not bright. I have my tail light installed and have tested these degrees and I am very satisfied with the rudder tail light. I am still debating whether to use on wing tips or not. I have found the red in WIDE ANGLE design but not green. Mark -- I didn't buy any of the bulbs at Auto Zone , I just happened to see them there. But thanks for I wasn't thinking either. I pulled my top cowl out of the mold tonight. It didn't turn out perfect but I'm happy with it. The carbon fiber sure is pretty. As it came out of the mold it weighs about 1 1/2 lbs. I may take it to work tomorrow so I can drive by the hanger to try it on for size. :-)-- Thanks - Joe On Sun, 4 Jan 2004 16:19:47 -0600 "Mark Jones"writes: > Joe, > Be sure and get the wide angle style LED bulb. > > Mark Jones (N886MJ) > Wales, WI USA > E-mail me at flyk...@wi.rr.com > Visit my KR-2S CorvAIRCRAFT web site at > http://mywebpage.netscape.com/n886mj/homepage.html > Joe Horton Coopersburg, Pa. joe.kr2s.buil...@juno.com
