Stephen, what model Garmen was that? ++ Hi Dene - Sorry, I can't recall. It was very much like the typical Garmin hand-held before the moving map units came along. The model number was one digit different from the otherwise identical aviation GPS - something like x93 instead of x94. I did try to find some email correspondence to refresh my memory, but I probably dumped it when I gave the GPS away - I did however find the Garmin plug pin-outs (from the same guy at Garmin) if anyone needs this. There are a few reasons my plane cost as little as it did. One, I waited to find a started project. I found a finished KR2S boat with spars, all fittings, gear, wheels and brakes and all cables and EXP2 bus for only 500.00! All I had to purchase was glass and resin to finish the plane. Engine is Corvair 2700 that I built myself - firewall forward @3000.00. Prop I already had from other KR. Gauges are inexpensive Mirco 1000 and VDO. Handheld radio (borrowed) and GPS (borrowed). I kept everything simple and built everything only ONCE! That is how I have so little in it yet it performs great! Ill do a better job on my next one - if I every take the time to build it. I am enjoying this one tremendously. Planning some trips to Central and South America in the future... Bill

Bill, I bought a used Lowrance worldmap 1000 with a 5 inch screen for = $85 on e-bay. The difference between it and the Avmap? Database that can be = changed with the home PC and them little flashcards that come in our digital cameras. Oh yeh, forgot to mention Worldmap is a marine unit and as = anyone knows when the word aircraft is mentioned the price goes up 10 times. = About to become your neighbor as I'm looking at a place near Columbus (Ft. = Benning area). Getting too damn old to shovel snow when I could be flying = instead. Doug Rupert --=20 Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Oh yeh, forgot to mention Worldmap is a marine unit and as anyone knows when the word aircraft is mentioned the price goes up 10 times. I have a Lowrance now and it works a treat. My first attempt was also a cost-saver, but it turned out to be a bad idea - check out the non-aviation GPS carefully. I bought a non-aviation Garmin for a great price. I was very happy with my new toy - it worked fine in the car but it would not work in the airplane. After much frustration I learnt that it would not function over certain speeds - not sure now, but I think it stopped registering after 70mph. Take care Steve J

I've tested my eMap up to 140 MPH... umm... in an airplane. Yeah, that's it. I'll stick with that story ;) -- Steve N205FT mystic...@swbell.net He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in.

Some of the lower end handhelds are that way, especially the older = units. This marine unit however is identical to the aviation unit with the = minor exception of marine navigation database instead of aviation which can = easily be changed. Lowrance didn't want to give this little tidbit up due to difference in prices so I downloaded the manuals from their site and the only difference between the two other than the database of course was = the location of the function buttons (along the bottom on the aviation model = and on the right side of the screen for marine unit) Doug I bought a non-aviation Garmin for a great price.
