KR> Landing gear bracket. Flox to spar?
Good morning everyone. I am setting my Diehl type landing gear brackets today and was wondering if people are floxing them to the spar? If so? mine are powder coated and should I remove or scratch the surface? I did a search in the archives and found 206 listings but gave up reading with no luck. I glued mine to keep it from working back and forth and elongating the holes throught the spar caps. Apparently it works, as my first landing was over 5 g's. Marty Roberts developed a leak in his fuel tank vent system, and it was caused by his brackets working loose and poking a hole in something. On the other hand, MANY things that I've glued in place with T-88 thinking it would never need to move, I eventually needed to move! So if you have any clue that you might want to change your gear type or something like that, don't use T-88 on it. As for powder paint, it's pretty tenacious stuff, but I'd still remove it completely where I want to epoxy it. That's not going to be easy, but some coarse grit on a belt or palm sander ought to do it in a hurry. Steve, I thought that the flox to the spar was just so you would be sure that you had complete contact with the surface of the spar. It is bolted to the spar and I don't think that any amount of "floxing", will keep the brackets from falling off. One good jolt and that contact would be broken if it were not for the bolts. So, if I were doing it, I would just be sure that I had a good bed of flox between the bracket and the spar and tighten it on down. Good morning--The flox serves 2 purposes, 1 as a filler to even up and irregularities, 2 as a adhesive. I would rough up the back side of the brackets. - Original Message - From: To: "KRNET" Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2006 9:51 AM Subject: KR> Landing gear bracket. Flox to spar? > Good morning everyone. Thanks for info. So floxing in would give the even pressure spread along the entire bracket at the sparcaps. Also, giving it that fixodent hold so as to reduce movement. Great. now back into the garage. I am going to use T88 and forge on. Steven Phillabaum KR2S; 5048; corvair; Auburn, Alabama
