KR> Lowrance Ending Aviation GPS product line

2009-10-15 Thread Randy Powell
No it is not made by Lowrance. It is made in Italy by Avmap themselves.
Here is a link to their website.

I have a KR friend, who uses the Avmap, and he really likes it too. Isn't
it a Lowrance product?

I am using the Avmap EKP IV with weather added and I love it. Half the
price of Garmin and with all the features I want for VFR.

I use the ATC with weather, from Control Vision, and they are still in
business. It is not nearly as nice as the big Garmin or Lowrance, but does
the job for MUCH less money.

It's going to be time to cough up the premium dollars and buy the industry
standard Garmin units.

KR> Lowrance Ending Aviation GPS product line

2009-10-15 Thread Jeff Scott
While Lowrance still shows their Aviation GPS units available on their web
pages, it has been rumored for a while that they were no longer available.
you'll find them "out of stock" with the vendors that list them. A friend sent
his 2000C in to Lowrance for repair after they gave him a $200 flat rate quote
for repair / exchange and had it returned unopened with a note saying that the
units are no longer available and will no longer be supported. A call to
Lowrance confirmed that they are de-supporting their aviation GPS units and are
getting out of the Aviation GPS business. I assume the Jepp Databases will
still be available through LEI Extras for a while, but the handwriting is on
the wall for those of us that own the Lowrance GPS units. It's going to be
time to cough up the premium dollars and buy the industry standard Garmin
units.
